Weekend Review
2007-10-02 03:22:00 I promised a thorough review of the weekend, so here you go. For non-sports fans, I promise some good stuff at the end of this post. I?ll start with the Steelers, who lost their first game of the season, 21-14, against the Arizona Cardinals. First, thanks to everyone for giving their comments and suggestions about how and where I could watch Sunday?s game during the engagement party. I was able to watch much of the first half at the party and most of the second half at a house. The Steelers obviously did not play their best, and I?m worried about the health of Troy Polamalu, Casey Hampton and Bryant McFadden. I was also disappointed by the offensive line as Willie Parker only had 37 yards rushing, the Cardinals had 4 sacks and it seemed like the line had about a half dozen false start or holding penalties. Ben Roethlisberger?s interception in the end zone while the team was on the Arizona 2 certainly did not help. However, to put this in perspective, it?s not a terrible loss....

According to the event description, ?he'll be spinning tunes on the mic, passing out shots at the bar, and of course signing autographs and posing for pictures.? Of course! The flyer states that the Vanilla Ice experience starts at 10:00pm. Although I haven?t been out in a DC bar past 10 in years, I?m actually considering it. Thanks to ordering tickets to the Washington Capitals-Pittsburgh Penguins games last year, the Capitals offered me, as a group leader, complimentary tickets to a preseason game. So, I?ll be at the Capitals-Flyers game tomorrow night in DC not too far from Foggy Bottom. With the hockey game ending around 9:30, I should be able to make it to McFadden?s in time. Easy Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream & Strawberries
2007-08-28 12:27:00 INGREDIENTS:serves 4* 4 egg yolks, preferably free range* 4 tablespoons sugar, or icing sugar* 4 dl whipping cream* 1 vanilla bean, or 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar* 1 liter (1000 ml) fresh strawberries* 4 tablespoons orange liqueurMETHOD:1. Cut vanilla bean open and scrape out the seeds.2. Beat the egg yolks with sugar and vanilla.3. Whip the cream and fold it into the egg mixture.4. Pour your prepared mixture into a wide plastic freezer container.5. Put it, covered, into your freezer for a couple of hours.Optional: You may take the ice cream out of the freezer after 30-40 minutes, break up the ice crystals by beating it and making it smooth again, and repeat this now and then.
