It is official - Antoin "Tony" Rezko is guilty on 16 counts out of 24 charged. Wall St. Spin Class Brawl: The Verdict
2008-06-05 04:32:00
Last week we explained the bizarre case of the stockbroker who threw a hedge fund manager into a wall because the hedgie was being overly boisterous and obnoxious during a spin class. The case was brought to court for charges of misdemeanor assault. Both sides’ attorneys surmised this decision would decide whether it was justified to ...
Six Degrees? the verdict
2008-06-02 18:07:00
The first thing that struck me about this show, is that even though it was created by J J Abrams, this show was certainly no Lost! I guess I always knew it wouldn’t be, but deep down inside I hoped it would be the kind of highly addictive, entertaining television phenomenon that Lost is… or ...

Style Verdict: Jumpsuit #5137
2008-05-30 20:31:00
Ok, ok... so we haven't seen that many jumpsuits here on Hip Candy, but we've seen our fair share of them, that's for sure.  Everybody was showing up wearing different jumpsuit styles for a minute there! But this latest one, I have to admit, I don't mind as much as the previous ones posted.  It has a wonderfully tailored quality to it, which makes it fall nicely, and it has pockets!  Love that.  You could also style this jumpsuit with a lightweight button-up blouse and menswear tie for a "power suit" type look, or pairing it with a nice frilly ruffled blouse would also complement it, I think.  But that's just my opinion.  I wanna know what you think about it.  Do you like it?  Hate it?  Don't care?  Would you wear it?  I wanna know your style verdict.Actress Malin Akerman wore this jumpsuit (is it CHANEL?) to the opening of the CHANEL Boutique on Robertson Blvd. on May 29, 2008 in Beverly Hills.

Trak.in Poll Verdict: Indians prefer female bosses, only just
2008-05-28 14:29:00
I had written about ASSOCHAM survey couple of weeks back which concluded that more than 68% men and women prefer male bosses at their work. I did not really agree with this survey and decided to carry out my own small survey on Trak.in. There are about 202 trak.in readers who have participated (till this point) in the survey and it reflects exactly what I feel. Out of 202 poll voters, 42% prefer female bosses at workplace, 37% prefer male and 21% said they have no preference.

Malaysian?s unhappiness over ICJ?s Pedra Branca verdict
2008-05-25 13:06:00
I felt it is absolutely IMPERATIVE to defend my own country when unfair allegations (that are less than factual) are thrown at Singapore, arising out of the final verdict passed down by ICJ. The leaders of both countries have declared that they will accept the judgement even before it was announced, and I wonder why ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Malaysian’s unhappiness over ICJ’s Pedra Branca verdict", url: "http://www.mr-endoh.com/singap-ore/malaysians-unhappiness-over--icjs-pedra-branca-verdict/" });
Appeal Refused in Record Verdict Gas Royalty Case
2008-05-23 17:08:00
In an active day for the justices, West Virginia's Supreme Court has let stand a nearly $405 million verdict awarded in a Roane County class-action lawsuit, MetroNews reports. In what may be a record verdict for the state, the judgment involves around 8,000 plaintiffs who sued over natural gas royalty payments. Punitive damages account for two-thirds of the verdict. The defendants include NiSource. "President and CEO Robert C. Skaggs, Jr. said the company is surprised and disappointed with the West Virginia Court's decision not to hear its appeal," MetroNews reported."The Court's decision to not even address the substance of an appeal in a case of this significance, particularly in light of the $270 million in punitive damages awarded at the trial court level, is unprecedented and contrary to the most basic principles of fairness. We firmly believe in the merits of our position and will continue to vigorously pursue our arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court," he said in a statement.

Internet Poll Verdict: Indian Broadband connections are expensive?but why ?
2008-05-13 09:13:00
I had set up a poll a fortnight back on this to understand why Indian Internet penetration is lagging behind so much so that a country of size of Hong Kong beats India, even when we out number them in population by over a billion people. Obviously, one of the basic reason is that more than 70% of Indian still live in villages and are dependent on farming with no need of internet as yet what so ever. But what about urban Indians? India has more than 250 million people living in cities, then why is it that we have only 3.5 million broadband connections to show? Here is the Poll Verdict: Out of total of 156 poll participants around 44% felt that Internet connections are expensive. I feel so too.
The Verdict is In: Conservatives Happier than Liberals
2008-05-10 02:00:00
Is there really any surprise?  It seems only logical to me that conservatives, who have truth, sense, and reason on their side ? in addition to values and standards ? would naturally lead more satisfied lives than ever-bitter, complaining liberals focused on blaming government and handing over any sense of personal accountability for themselves. Now, a ...

Phun: the 2d physics sandbox! - verdict? AWESOME.
2008-04-30 19:25:00
So I have kids and I am constantly looking for fun, educational, entertaining, games for them to play.  I like discovering open source free applications that satisfy this most of all. Some examples of great programs: tux paint and tux typing. Phun is different.  Where those two programs excel in teaching kids, Phun is just fun. It's interactive in a way that not many programs are.  It actually has the playability that feels much like an RTS.  It does what you make it do now.  You add something and the environment acts upon it. Watch this video. > > And it's a toy...except it isn't:  Radial engine: > > > Gears: > > > It's a remarkable achievement. One big benefit I see in Phun over the other kid applications I've found is that Phun uses an almost standard application user interface.  The user needs to navigate menus and toolbars and context menus.  The other kid apps focus on learning something or d...

Game?s reaction to the Sean Bell verdict: 911 is a Joke
2008-04-29 21:17:00
technically, the original 911 is a Joke was a criticism of EMS response to inner city emergencies, right? Here its more representative of law enforcement…. For the record, I do not condone any cop-killing sentiments. I think there are problems in the law enforcement system, and problems within the judicial system that’s supposed to  deal ...

David Banner shares his opinion on the Sean Bell Verdict
2008-04-28 22:37:00
Things are just a little too still after the verdict for the Pigs, I mean cops who shot Sean Bell was read declaring them innocent. As I reported before The Game has taken his frustration to the studios, recording a track about his feelings. Now Mr. Banner is speaking out telling us his thoughts. "I was outraged but I've gotten to the point where I don't get mad anymore," Banner says. "I have to think logically. I think one of the problems with America is that we've adapted Bush's cowboy mentality to everything. With the Sean Bell situation New York is basically saying, "fuck niggas". "It pisses me off, I'm hurt and to a certain degree I'm scared, too," Banner says. "I got to be enough of a man to say that." I couldn't agree with you more, something has to be done, but if we all sit back, there will be a dozen "Sean Bell" cases. People, we have to unite as ONE and put our feet down and not take this shit anymore, because we are at the mercy of a President who doesn't give a ...
The Game addresses the controversial Sean Bell verdict
2008-04-28 17:41:00
It seems as if a lot of people are very upset with the verdict surrounding the Sean Bell verdict. The Game has taken it a step farther, he will debut his song “911 Is A Joke†tomorrow April 29, on his new website ThisizGame.com. The Game talks about the tactics police use while on the street as well as the violence. "I'm outraged and speaking out for my generation that are afraid to speak out against police brutality and murder," The Game says. "I grew up in Compton and had to stay silent because of the fear that was prevalent in my community, but now that I have a voice I'm speaking out." Preach my brother, Preach! It is actually surreal that these policeman got off with not even with a slap to the hand...nothing. I feel more people, artists, politicians, anyone and everyone should come out and express themselves. I've been involved in my fair share of police brutality activism. In 2006 I was part of a large coalition that fought for justice after a man was beat by police in Milwaukee. While the cops got off at the municipal level, the police were eventually convicted at the federal level. But this is rare. Most times cops get off. And I think there are a several reasons why.

Al-Fayed says accepts Princess Diana verdict
2008-04-09 04:15:00
April 9, ReutersLONDON - The father of Dodi al-Fayed, killed in a Paris car crash with Princess Diana in 1997, said on Tuesday he accepted the verdict of an inquest jury and was giving up his legal attempts to show the couple were murdered."Enough is enough," a teary-eyed Harrods store owner Mohamed al-Fayed said in an interview with ITV's "News at Ten", saying he was abandoning his legal battle for the sake of Diana's sons, Princes William and Harry."I'm leaving the rest for God to get my revenge, but I'm not doing anything any more," he said.An inquest ruled on Monday that Diana and her lover, Dodi al-Fayed, were unlawfully killed by the grossly negligent driving of their chauffeur and paparazzi photographers pursuing them in a Paris road tunnel.Mohamed al-Fayed had accused Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip, Diana's former father-in-law, of ordering British security services to kill her and stop her marrying a Muslim and having his baby.He said he had met his lawyers ...

Pogue Reviews Casio's 1,200FPS EXIFILM Pro EX-F1 (Verdict: Built for Pure Speed) [Casio EXIFILM PRO EX-F1]We pretty much flipped over the Casio EXIFILM PRO EX-F1's insane rapid fire mode when we get our hands on it: 60fps still shooting, and up to a retardiculous 1200fps video for super slo-mo. David Pogue gives the full review, and spends a page lauding how freakin' fast this camera is. Besides loving the sheer rate of fire, he really digs the pre-record mode, which constantly shoots while you're just halfway pressing the shutter, so even if you're too slow to hit just the right moment, the camera's already got it. But! 'Unfortunately, this highly unusual, almost experimental piece of equipment includes nearly as many downsides as breakthroughs.'The low light performance sucks, courtesy of a tiny light sensor, which is half the size of a beginner's DSLR. So you need brilliant lighting to avoid dim or blurry shots. And Casio's solution of 'one of the brightest and fastest...
