Vernon Wells, MLB?s Worst Fielder
2009-07-17 16:35:00 Vernon Wells, MLB’s Worst Fielder I’ll be honest, Vernon’s fielding makes me laugh out-loud. His routes are comical and anything hit more than five steps away from his initial positioning is bound to drop. My eyes (and anyone else’s) can plainly see that. What do the numbers say? Vernon’s UZR/150 (zone rating over 150 games) is an ...

2009-02-24 02:42:00 Vernon Wells Out for a Month (at least) Vernon Wells has pulled his hamstring and is out for at least a month. Wells will need to take an MRI to see the extent of the damage. Keep in mind that the month estimation comes from J.P Ricciardi. Right now, preliminarily, I’d say he’s going to miss four ...

Chicks Dig The Long Ball
2007-10-17 17:09:00 Chicks Dig The Long Ball Who’s got the biggest balls of them all? Find out. If chicks dig the long ball, then Prince Fielder is feeling a lot of love after his 2007 season. Fielder won the Golden Sledgehammer Award from Hittrackeronline.com, a site that monitors every home run hit in the major leagues, for having the highest average standard distance per home run this season, 408 feet. The site defines standard distance as factoring “out the influence of wind, temperature and altitude, and is thus the best way of comparing home runs hit under a variety of different conditions.” A surprise entry on this list is Vernon Wells, who played through a shoulder ailment the entire season. He managed to knock one 464 feet. Player, team Pitcher Site Date 476 feet Chris Young, Ariz. D. Wells, Phoenix Sept. 22 470 feet Mark Teixeira, Atl. C. Villanueva, Milw. Vernon Wells: Having Solid Spring
2007-03-17 19:42:00 Vernon Wells slugged two home runs -- the second a mammoth blast that bounced off the roof of a restaurant behind the left-field stands of Bright House Networks Field -- vs. the Phillies on Thursday. Wells finished the day with a .346 average, four dingers and eight RBIs over 10 spring games. Though you can?t put too much stock into exhibition performances, those numbers should help calm owners concerned about Wells' motivation following the massive contract he signed this offseason. Vernon Wells Contract & Is it worth it?
2006-12-16 13:58:01 Vernon Wells to sign for 7 Years, $126 Million Well, looks like Vernon is going to sign a seven year extension worth $126 million dollars. Is he worth this kinda cash? We break down a number of areas, such as RBI’s, Runs, OPS, and Current Market Value to get the answer. Runs Scored Only once has Wells scored more than 100 runs, despite being on base a number of times. Some may attribute this to a poor surrounding cast, but in 2006 Vernon scored only 91 times. RBI Vernon has knocked in 100 or more runs in three of the last five seasons, but only once in the past three years. This certainly isn?t poor, but for a $126 million? OPS Vernon has never finished in the AL?s top 10 in OPS. His career mark is .828. Over the past three seasons, he has posted the following OPS?: .809, .783, .899. Flatly, Vernon has never shown himself to be in the top tier of batter?s in the American League. His past records also show a lack of consistency. Which is the real Vernon, the...
