Using national VA data on more than 289,000 Iraq and Afghanistan vets, researchers found that the prevalence of new mental health diagnoses increased by six-fold between 2002 and 2008?from just over 6 percent to 37 percent. The steepest increase was seen in new diagnoses of PTSD, which rose from less than 1 percent of VA patients at the outset to 22 percent by the study?s end.

2009-03-19 07:01:00 A recent Obama administration proposal seeks to save money by cutting health care from veterans whom already have private insurance.  Is this one of the best ways we have to save money?  Democrats on Capital Hill issued a letter to President Obama to express their distaste for the proposal.  As the AIG outrage over shadows most more important and substantial news, issues such as this fall to the waste side.  President Obama is right of course to try and save the government money where he can however it should not come at the expense of those that serve our country.  Veterans relying on their private insurance may not always be an adequate way to cover the needs of service injuries.
