Vaccinate or Veto? Shots or Titer for Your Pet ? Part 2
2008-09-10 07:01:00 Each year, you receive the cute puppy postcard in the mail, reminding you that your pet is due for its annual vaccinations. You cringe at the thought of dragging your pet through the vet's door and writing that big check at the end of the day spent in the antiseptic office. Of course,
Vaccinate or Veto? Shots or Titer for Your Pet ? Part 1
2008-09-03 07:01:00 The $150-300 bill for shots makes you groan every spring. But do these shots hurt your pet (or large animal) more than they wound your wallet? Some studies have shown that animals may build enough immunity to skip their annual vaccinations. Testing that immunity every year or so is enough, and

Will Bush veto the Foreclosure Prevention Act
2008-05-29 17:00:00 The House recently approved the American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act. The bill fell short of the margin needed (the vote was 266-154) to override President Bush?s threat to veto the bill.
Yes, it's okay to veto lopsided trades
2008-05-23 01:24:00 This started out as a comment to Mike's excellent post here, but it got so long I decided to give it its own separate post. Mike pondered whether it's okay to veto a trade if it's so lopsided it destroys league balance, even if it's technically not collusion. I answer unequivocally: Hell, yes, it's okay.I play in a highly competitive, 14-team money league (called A1A Fantasy Sports) that uses a "commissioner review" trading policy. (When a trade is proposed by one team and accepted by another, all managers in the league have a right to protest, though it's the commissioner -- which happens to be me in this case -- who ultimately decides whether to approve or reject the trade.)I don't reject trades lightly. Since 2000, I've only rejected two trades -- one in fantasy baseball and one in football. (And the football one was borderline collusion.) We've had managers protest many, many more, but I try my best to let players manage their rosters how they see fit. (The last one I r...

Veto On Foreclosure Bills
2008-03-13 14:03:00 The White House has recently sought to veto a bill that would enable to follow up recent economic accelerations in foreclosures. The package deals in keeping the upsurge of foreclosures in check. The Democrats of the Senate had hoped to start on the housing bill on Tuesday. The main action has however been postponed until later this week. However, it is a promise from the Democrats that the deferment will not take as long as the Republics had taken with the Iraq issue. The housing bill statements would aim to change the bankruptcy laws allowing judges to cut back upon interest rates for the troubled borrowers. The mortgage rates are also being made to be kept lower for these troubles loaners. A massive amount of $4 billion would be given to communities that would enable them to make purchase and rehabilitate foreclosed real estate properties. The disclosure of subprime mortgage amounts on loan would be given on loans so that the very distressed loaners would not be surprised by a ma...

Bush to Veto Waterboarding Bill
2008-03-10 16:13:00 So you see, he’s still good for something. Senator Kennedy manages to get things 180 degrees bass-ackward with surgical-precision accuracy once again. Had his talent been appreciated earlier, Mary Jo might still be alive today. “President Bush’s veto will be one of the most shameful acts of his presidency,†Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., said in a statement Friday. “Unless Congress overrides the veto, it will go down in history as a flagrant insult to the rule of law and a serious stain on the good name of America in the eyes of the world.†Yes by all means Ted, let’s just feed the terrorists three hot meals a day and let ‘em have their naps like little kids in Kindergarten. I just hope future families don't have to go through what we had to go through," said Andrew Hartung of Manalapan, N.J., whose 14-month-old daughter, Abigail, was injured last fall in a Bassettbaby crib that was later recalled.Well congress is actually getting something good done. With any luck these two bills will come together nicely to protect eh health and safety of America's children. And the best part is that Bush the Small has not threatened a veto. I think it's telling about the behavior of this president that the author of the article feels compelled to mention that on it's own line. Up to this point I wasn't even sure he was being briefed on what the democratic controlled congress was working on, he just had a veto threat written into the daily press briefing.
