Vikings Sign Kim Kardashian
2008-05-01 14:28:00
The hype, hope, and hysterics of the 2008 NFL draft is now complete. Like myself, many thousands of rabid fans were incensed at the player their team selected, or did not select. Luckily, we didn’t muff up our first round selection giving even more fodder to the ESPN vampires. The Vikings, before the draft, traded their ...

Vikings Take Jared Allen out of the AFC West
2008-04-23 07:14:00
And for that, we give a hearty “Thank you,” Minnesota.  Jared Allen has moved on to greener pastures (and a much, much fatter wallet) after the Vikings struck a deal with KC for three 2008 draft picks.  They gave Kansas City the 17th overall selection, as well as their two third rounders (with one of ...
Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings: What that means for us.
2008-04-23 07:10:00
It only cost 31 million in guaranteed money, a first round draft pick, and two third round draft picks, but the Minnesota Vikings have traded for Kansas City Defensive End Jared Allen.    Specifically it was a 6-year, 74 million dollar deal, and the 17th, 73rd and 82nd picks.  Expensive, yes, but the Vikings get a 15 sack a year guy with thirty million reasons to play his tail off.  Even when the Chiefs were horrible last season, Jared Allen was a bright spot.   There were a few of us in Jaguars land (myself included) who thought that trading for Allen would be a good idea.  With the size of the deal, I'm pretty glad we didn't make him the highest paid player on the team.  Though not because he's a risk, I believe it when his Chiefs teammates say he's quit drinking: "I've seen Jared at a big party, out on the dance floor, where everybody is drinking except one person. It's Jared, and he's having the best time of everybody," said...

Thoughts on Jared Allen's possible trade to the Vikings
2008-04-18 07:30:00
Big news today as the Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed they are shopping star defensive end Jared Allen. The Vikings are thought to be one of the frontrunners - along with Tampa Bay and possibly Jacksonville.Of those teams, the Vikings have the highest first round pick to dangle in front of the Chiefs. And they have the greatest need for a sack specialist, so they should be willing to give the Chiefs what they want.It should be mentioned however, that Allen has a booze problem, notably two outstanding DUIs. This seems very contradictory for a team that Zygi Wilf is trying to assemble that is "accountable for it's actions" and trying to build up the team's character problems that surfaced around the "sex boat scandal". His problems with the law propose more problems than that though. He'd also have to be signed to a long-term deal for big money and would take up a lot of cap space and one more run-in with the law like that would result in AT LEAST a 4-game suspension (probably mo...

Vikings Final Offseason Need: DE
2008-03-04 18:38:00
Entering this year’s off season the Vikings needed to fill major holes at DE. A total lack of the pass rush last year and unexpected health complications have left the Vikings scrambling. Last week the Vikings addressed needs in pass coverage and at WR by adding a deep threat in Bernard. It has been an extremely active offseason, one that included the hopes of signing Justin Smith from Cinci, but the 49ers jumped in and nixed that deal. This leaves the Vikings still searching for answers at DE in an offseason John Clayton from ESPN has deemed a Winner for the Vikes and 4 other teams (Browns, Jags, Eagles, Fins). Going into this years free agency period ESPN ranked 41 available DE’s with 4 of those clearly a cut above everyone else. Those four are: Jared Allen, Chris Canty, Antwan Odom and Justin Smith. Allen who rated out at 88 signed a franchise tag deal worth about $9 million. Smith rated out at 75 just signed a 6 yr deal worth about $7.5 million/yr. Smith was ...

Vikings Pass Coverage Now in Safe Hands
2008-02-29 19:04:00
The Vikings announced today that they have agreed to terms with former Bengal safety Madieu Willams (www.madieuwilliams.org). The deal now makes Williams one of the highest paid safeties in the league. ESPN LINK >> What it all means? Well for starters we’ll be getting some serious nutrition via the SuperBun. But more importantly it means 6 years of better pass-coverage. I think it’s a solid move and I’m happy to see the front office making moves and paying top dollar to fix last years problem spots. UPDATE: According to ESPN.com there are 41 Free Agent safeties up for grabs this year.   Williams is the #2 ranked available Free Agent in this years class.  The only safety ranked higher is Gibril Wilson who is a run stopper which the Vikings did not need.  Wilson signed with the Raiders. Signing a safety through Free Agency frees up a potential draft pick.  Many people had been speculating the Vikings would take a safety in the draft.  They still might,...

Dolphins interested in Williamson? Vikings interested in Lemon?
2008-02-22 20:59:00
Talk about swapping some bad players. As originally posted by hotrod43 in this diary, the Vikings are reportedly showing interest in free agent QB Cleo Lemon.  Tim Graham writes that there are "murmurs the Vikings are highly interested" in Lemon.  What do I think?  TAKE HIM!  PLEASE!!! Actually, it really doesn't matter if the Vikings take him or not because all indications are that Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland, and Tony Sparano are going to let him walk without even giving it a 2nd thought.  In fact, when asked about re-signing Lemon, Parcells said, "Hahahahahahaha!!"  OK, I made that up.  But if you did ask him, I bet that would basically be his response. Speaking of bad players, it's being reported that 8-10 teams are interested in Vikings WR Troy Williamson.  One of them is believed to be...the Dolphins.  Here's what some of this article says: David Canter, the agent for Troy Williamson, said today that eight to 10 teams have expres...

See why Hel has it in for the Vikings battling for Asgard - SendMeRSS
2008-02-05 11:48:00
See why Hel has it in for the Vikings battling for AsgardFiled under: Videos and ScreenshotsUp until recently, Sega's been relatively tight-lipped about the storyline surrounding Viking: Battle for Asgard. Sure, we know the basic premise - Hel, the aptly named goddess of the underworld, unleashes her minions of wannabe Uruk-hai upon the vikings of Midgard. After Hel slaughters everything that breathes, the goddess Freya shows up to resurrect one of Midgard's fallen, Skarin, and imbues him with extraordinary powers. It's now up to Skarin to avenge his fellow vikings. While that may sum up enough for some, we've been left wondering why Hel is hatin' on the poor vikings in the first place. Well, Sega recently cleared the air on Hel's intentions by giving us a full character background with some saucy images of this naughty little vixen and even more gameplay screens. Read on to see Hel's full character background straight from Sega's mouth. Gallery: Viking:Battle for Asgard A ...

Who should the Minnesota Vikings next QB be?
2008-01-03 09:22:00
Although I'm not a Vikings fan, but since I do live in Vikings territory I've heard a lot of debating about who the Vikings QB should be next season. Now I have myself pondering the same thing.Any NFL fan, not just a Vikings fan can tell you that the Vikings need a new QB (WR as well). The Vikings haven't had a great QB for awhile and have relied heavily on some pathetic ones recently. Tarvaris Jackson just isn't getting it done right now and should not be the starter.Candidates:Tarvaris Jackson?I say give him a few more seasons to get used to the offense, the flow of the game, and gain more experience before starting. He'd be a good back-up for the Vikes.Donovan McNabb?Seems like a good fit. But how would the his hometown Chicago Bears fans take it? When Donovan is healthy he is one of the best and most accurate arms in the NFL. He can find the open receiver, run out of the pocket, and lead the Vikes deep into the playoffs, especially if they find a good WR too. But he is inju...
