WRC/4 reports that National Weather Service meteorologists evaluated the Chesapeake Beach, Md. storm in Calvert County as an EF-0, the weakest form of tornado. The aerial pictures demonstrated if nothing else that even the weakest of tornadoes can cause significant damage.Northern Virginia's multiple damage patterns were caused at least in part by tornadoes as well. EF-1 tornadoes caused damage in Stafford, Culpeper and Fauquier counties. Ms. Andress invited us to have lunch with here at her favorite restaurant, the Vienna Inn, which is near the W&OD trail. Veterinarian Linda Neimeir also came out to ride with Bill. The town of Vienna was having a festival, when Brenda and I arrived. Brenda had to park the truck at a local high school; there just wasn't anywhere else to park. We spotted Ms. Neimeir's truck and trailer at the school. She didn't have anyone to drive for her, so she parked there, then rode to meet Bill. That didn't quite workout as planned, as the trail is split in some sections. The paved sections are mainly for bicycles. Meant as a companion piece to 2006's Yes, Virginia, No, Virginia compiles tracks from sessions between 2003-2006.The duo describes their music as "Brechtian punk cabaret". Lead singer and pianist Amanda Palmer writes dramatic pieces with a classic punk influence infused lyrically."The Kill" starts with lyrics borrowed from the Sex Pistols "I am an anarchist/I am an antichrist". "Lonesome Organist Rapes Page-Turner" reminds me of X's classic "Johnie Hit and Run Pauline". The compilation also includes a cover of the Psychedelic Furs classic "Pretty in Pink".In the end, you have to listen to No, Virginia with a grain of salt as you do any odds-n-ends comp. For the most part, the content of the album is riveting. 2008-05-21 22:55:00 Bill and Brenda visited with the Clifford Baptist Church's congregation in the evening and I was able to get on the internet thanks to Ms. Walkem and her son. In the morning I interviewed Ms. Walkem outside the church before we departed. Ms Walkem also gave Brenda a contact with Cavalry Babtist Church in Lovingston. There where some blind curves and a bridge which could have proven dangerus for Bill and Blackie along the route to Lovingston, and so local law enforcement waited for Bill near this location so that they could escort him. Meanwhile Brenda and I continued on to Calvary Baptist Church. This was a short day so there was no need for a rest stop. The panels where setup and we had settled down when Bill arrived. Virginia partial birth abortion law overturned again by federal court
2008-05-21 13:42:00 The 2003 Virginia law to ban so-called "partial birth" abortions have been overturned again by a panel of the federal 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. The U.S. Supreme Court allowed for a similar federal measure to take effect and sent the Virginia law back down for reconsideration but thus far, the reconsideration has yielded the same result.The federal judicial panel's rationale for striking down the Virginia late-term abortion law was because of a slight difference between it and the federal law. Unlike the feds, the Virginia measure allowed for prosecution of doctors who intend to perform standard second-trimester abortions that become the illegal type of abortion.
