Patience Is A Virtue...I Guess
2008-12-10 11:52:00
Today is Wednesday, December 10th, my birthday. Happy birthday to me (it's too early in the morning to have received any phone calls saying that). And today is the last day of the winter meetings in Vegas. It's been quiet, probably because of the declining economy woes that is hitting all of us so hard. The Mets filled their need for a closer by signing record-setting closer K ROD. His real name is Francisco Rodriguez, and he had an amazing 2009 season with the LA California Anaheim Angels. But the rumors, strong rumors, are that the Boston Red Sox have one main target, a guy they will go all out to acquire, even if it means a long term deal, something they usually do not like to do. Usually. Mark my words...this year will be different. The club is in dire need of a cleanup hitter to bat after Big Papi and before the valuable Kevin Youkilis. The once Manny-laden lineup will be fearsome once again. That guy's name, as you most likely guessed, is Mark Teixeira, and he WILL be weari...

Our Name Is Our Virtue

There is no artist that is more hit or miss than Jason Mraz. He creates these annoying pseudo raps that he surely thinks are clever but get old quick. But he also makes really heartfelt love songs that you cannot help but sing along. And it is odd that he would name We Dance, We Sing, We Steal Things when he isn’t really known for two of the three. It doesn’t take too long to figure out where the first part comes from as the opening track Make it Mine sounds like a long lost track of a rock band trying out that new disco thing in the seventies. A couple tracks later, Butterfly bust outs with horns straight from the Ohio Players handbook. The We Sing portion on the album is highlighted by I’m Yours, the quintessential fireside ditty that is easily the best of his career and should be played at every beach this summer. The other standout is the heartbreaking slid guitar aided Love for a Child, a song seen through the eyes of a kid whose parent are divorced debating the pro (having...
John Ridley: The Undeniable Virtue of Jeremiah Wright's Pro-Blackness (and
2008-04-26 01:32:00
There's nothing I hate more then a hypocrite and a double standard.  And this idiot is filled with both. For example, Fox's Sean Hannity had this to say about statements appearing on the website for Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ: "It says, "Commitment to God." By the way, I'm with you, and I hope you'll pray for me, Reverend. Commitment to the black community, commitment to the black family, adherence to the black work ethic. It goes on, pledge, you know, acquired skills available to the black community, strengthening and supporting black institutions, pledging allegiance to all black leadership who have embraced the black value system, personal commitment to the embracement of the black value system. Now, Reverend, if every time we said black, if there was a church and those words were white, wouldn't we call that church racist?" In answer to the question: yeah, probably. But that's 'cause there's a difference between being pro-black and pro-white and the d...
Patience in Online Business - It is Virtue
2008-04-23 05:24:00
Patience, some have more than others, but in business, it is a virtue we all must obtain. Most of the time people start an online business to make money. Well, we know of course, that we have to spend some money in order to make some money. This can be tricky in knowing where to spend one's money (that is another article in itself). Perhaps even trickier at times can be having the patience to wait for that constant flow of traffic that we all long for. This is where patience becomes a true virtue. It can take up to 90 days or longer for some to see consistent results. This is many times why there are those program hoppers out there. They don't see results quickly and they think, "this program doesn't work." So they move on to the next one. This becomes very costly in the long run. It is better to continue investing what you can into one business until it really gets off the ground. As quoted from an article that was sent to me recently "...patience is an essential ingredient for onl...

Strength - Not Necessarily A Virtue.
2008-04-09 01:32:00
I nearly got myself into a bit of a pickle on Friday night.I was mistaken for an RAF brigadier by a bunch of drunk Welsh tourists in the pub where we had met after work. I really didn't have the heart to tell them that the RAF don't have any brigadiers... especially as one of them was incredibly large and had been kind enough to buy a complete stranger like me a drink (using a suspiciously half inch thick wad of crisp £20 notes). But that's not why I nearly came a cropper.Somehow, all our conversations after work, seemed to stray into "every" taboo topic you aren't supposed to talk about in social gatherings. It's probably my fault because I honestly don't understand that principle. The subjects that are frowned on (politics, religion, morals and ethics), I find are the most revealing about a person's character and the most interesting way of learning about other people's world views in relation to your own. Honestly... how are we to learn how to live with other people's di...

John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, appeared on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and mentioned the 14th Congressional District election. Be part of the solution: Patience is a virtue
2008-03-20 20:52:00
Obama's Misunderstood speech in Philadelphia wasn't about race, it was about the fundamental Christian virtue of forgiveness. Color-based prejudice shaped the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and he obviously made some over-the-top statements during some sermons, but the message is much broader than race.We all make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. But we can learn. It is short-sighted to assume the mistakes are the person, and Obama is using this opportunity not just to showcase his diplomacy in dealing with the delicate, potentially divisive issues of color-oriented prejudice, but also to remind us of the cornerstone of his philosophy: We must forgive. We must distinguish the person from their actions. We must dare to hope that they can learn, and grow, and change for the better.Though in context Reverend Wright's words are not so outrageous as the soundbites made it seem, Obama was right to point out the errors in Wright's thinking, and statements; he remains righteous in his willing...
Patience is a Virtue, but It Isn't One of Mine
2008-03-11 22:24:00
"Great difficulties may be surmounted by patience and perseverance." -Abigail Adams, The Second First Lady of the United States of America, Abigail Adams books//Patience is not one of my strengths. I want to achieve my goals and overcome obstacles quickly. I am an optimistic overachiever who believes anything is possible in life and everything is within my control. In other words, I am moderately delusional about my own capabilities, and I am a member of the 'I want it now' society. The upside to being impatient and highly motivated is that I am willing to take risks much moreso than my counterparts or co-workers. I like to try new things, and I view every obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow. I am driven to be the best at everything that I do. I am a leader and an explorer who loves adventure and embraces change. The problem with people like me is that life often becomes a series of high 'highs' and low 'lows,' which tends to lead to burnout, addiction or depression. I ...
Pudding is a Virtue

Both our dogs contain a generous sprinkling of Border Collie, a breed known for its patience. As a working breed, BCs were meant to guard sheep all day; and since sheep are not exactly what you’d call wild and crazy guys, the BCs must be willing to sit still for a very long time. Moreover, they exhibit what’s known as the ”Border Collie Stare”–that steely gaze that bores right through you  and makes even the most obstreperous mutton acquiesce to their wishes. I’ve been the object of that stare, more times than I can tell you. You see, the house we live in is an ”open concept” design, so the living room opens on to the kitchen, which opens on to the rest of the house.  After many hours of sweat (mine) and a lot of practise (theirs), I’ve trained The Girls to ”stay out of the kitchen” on command.  Basically, this means they are not allowed to put paws to tile (but wood or carpet–the floo...

2008-02-16 04:35:00
According to Technorati there are now 70 million blogs out there. The most concerning thing about all that competition is that Technorati also reports that only 55% of people who start a blog today will still be blogging 3 months from now.  That being said, consistancy is the name of the game when it comes to real estate blogging, you need to be consistent in your topic, keywords, posting frequency and article formats. Read also: 45% of all Blogs Sleep with the Fishes Why do real estate blogs fail? 1.     -;  Lack of Results Results are all I care about.  I don't care that you are a great writer because I don't want to help a Realtor that is nothing but a failed journalist.  I want to help a Realtor that wants to be a successful Realtor, not a writer.  So, results to me are landing your blog on page 1 of Google and generating leads daily.  Can you live with that?  Most real estate blogs fail because they the blogger doesn'...
Managing The China Dragon: Patience As Virtue
2008-02-13 12:41:00
Very interesting post over at the always scintillating Managing the Dragon blog. The post is entitled, "Managing the Dragon, the Book (Update 2)" and it is the transcript of an interview with Jack Perkowski, writer of the just released (to strong reviews) book, "Managing the Dragon." Was there any way I could have written that sentence without saying "Managing the Dragon" three times? Here are my favorite questions and answers: What do you hope readers will take away from reading Managing the Dragon? There are many lessons to be learned from the book. Above all, though, I hope that the book will demystify China for the readers. It is true– there is a shroud of mystery that surrounds China, and there is much about the country that is difficult to understand. A central theme of the book, however, is that China does have its own logic, and that if you take the time and use your experience, knowledge and common sense, you can figure it out. Once you do, doing business in China, ...

THE ILLUSION OF VIRTUE.
2008-01-25 00:26:00
online advertising (http://www.bidvertiser.com/bdv-/BidVertiser/bdv_advertiser.dbm-) This is a guest post by Pradeep Mahesh (Maheshwari) (http://www.ryze.com/go/Lifepra-gmatic) from New Delhi, India. THE ILLUSION OF VIRTUE. Of all the tricks of illusion we get to see, this is the biggest that humanity has played on itself. What an absolute control it has on everybody’s sight and mind. Even if somebody helps us see through the whole game, the chances are that we would still like to keep our eyes closed and live with the illusion. How do I begin to explain myself? Since the beginning of time males and the females of the species have been playing with each other. What harm could there be in it? Yet somewhere along the way certain values were established and the play came under the rules and regulations of elders who promptly called it a sin. This gave them the right to censure and control the lives of their brethren. The brethren for some reason found it perfectly alright as the m...

Is tolerance a virtue?
2008-01-02 05:44:00
No great faith-based belief system lists "tolerance" as a virtue. Neither do Roman or Samurai belief systems. William Bennett wisely didn't include tolerance in his Book of Virtues. The BOOK OF VIRTUES by William J. Bennett "Justice" is there as is "mercy" and "self-restraint." The reason tolerance doesn't appear is that toleration requires no effort (character). In fact, its essence is the opposite of strain; it merely demands one to do nothing when confronted with a decision- to not care. Justice, the closest virtue to tolerance begs restraint and the application of some concept of fairness. Justice also obligates one to judge. Tolerance can be as negative as it can positive. People can tolerate bad behaviors and toleration of the malevolent may lead to the increase of the tolerated evil. I can list hundreds of examples, but let's say that Giuliani would have been more circumspect had he sought office in Hester Prynne's day, and a Victorian-era Brangelina may have marri...

Well, I guess ?Straight Talk? McCain had to do something to let the world know that his campaign still had a pulse (here)?Senator John McCain had harsh words Tuesday for the Democrats both in Congress and on the campaign trail, accusing them of putting politics ahead of national security.?I can only draw one conclusion from what the Democrats are trying to do today?? McCain said in Inman, South Carolina, ?is that their political priorities have taken over their dedication to our nation?s security. And I don?t say that lightly.?Of course not. And I know you didn't enjoy it either...On Monday McCain, R.-Ariz., sent a letter chastising the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org for calling on Democratic presidential candidates to filibuster the war funding bill before Congress. Patience Is A Virtue
2007-11-27 19:13:00
Patience is a Virtue I do not possess!!That has certainly been proven today! I'm in a lousy mood, having spent most of today running around like crazy trying to get a lot of things done - but almost every single one of them turned out wrong!! I needed to get so much done today, and I've hardly done anything at all!!Since things are sooo stressful right now, I don't have time for things going wrong, or postponing things to some other time - I need to get them done according to plan.Yeah, well, "plan" just laughed in my face today!!And as a result, I feel terrible!! For once though, I don't feel sad and depressed, which is usually the way I tend to react. I rather feel very annoyed ... which isn't great either, I suppose!! I'm desperatly trying to stick to my thoughts from yesterday - that all I can do is my very best, and if that's not enough, I'm going to have to deal with those consequences when they occur!! But it's HARD!!!All I can do now is try not to let this get to me...

Doreen Virtue & Angel Intuitive training

Angel awareness or angel intuition is something we all have inside ourselves. Participating in Doreen Virtue's 2007 Angel Intuitive Conference on the Gold Coast shows me why 800 Lightworkers come together for teaching and to exchange ideas and experiences. Have you ever wondered whether you may have heightened sensitivities? Does alternative healing appeal? Perhaps you've never heard the word "Lightworker" before, or wonder how it relates to angels. Choose to explore options.Lightworke-rs assist people to connect with angels. They encourage as they also help themselves.  You might explore angel medicine and healing techniques that can apply to wherever you are, whatever you do.  You might ask yourself who is psychic and why people are drawn to become healers and soul -seekers on different levels.  Why work with angels? Why assume they could help you at all? From the moment you believe in yourself, you discover you exert po...

Patience is a virtue
2007-10-28 00:09:00
From Easy Does It, Oct. 27: "Patience is important to our growth and peace of mind. Without patience, we would have difficulty holding down anxiety, anger, envy and unreasonable pride...When we set goals that we can reach and are patient with our progress, we save ourselves a lot of anxiety. "I remember reading a sign that said- G-d please grant me patience, but I want it right now! Well, I am guilty of impatience. Guilty of wanting what I want. And yes, it has proven to be a problem for me, in holding down all of those things mentioned above: anxiety, anger, envy and pride. Amazing to think that all of those might be solved with a little patience.Do you know where I learned a lesson about patience? It was something I learned from two doves who took turns sitting on the little eggs in their nest, right outside my home. I learned so much from those birds that summer, long ago. First of all, I noticed how whichever one sat in the daytime stayed until the other one flew back to take i...
The Virtue of Flip-flopping
2007-10-20 00:36:00
Flip-flopping, that is changing one's mind, has become a slur in contemporary American political discourse. Too many people seem to be under the erroneous impression that changing one's mind, changing course, changing views and changing one's agenda is weakness that makes an individual ill-suited for the task of leadership.A true leader is not someone who "stays the course" at all times and under all circumstances, i.e. being stubborn. A true leader changes his views and strategies as new information becomes available. A true leader listens to his or her advisers and is willing to adapt his or her own beleifs based on new evidence. If President Bush, for example, was a true leader he would admit that the Iraq War was a grave mistake. If President Bush was a true leader he would reverse his tax cuts which have failed to product extra economic growth, increased inequality and cost us $1.2 trillion - though if he was a true leader he would have listened to the majority of economists,...

Machiavelli and the Concept of Virtue
2007-08-13 17:43:00
The concept of ‘virtue’ leading up to the Renaissance was a concept drawn from antiquity and it was a concept with a complicated mix of meanings, some moral– as is typically the case in modern usage– and some not moral. A good sense of this latter meaning can be gained from a consideration of Dante’s ...
Theological Virtue of Love-Catholic definition
2007-08-03 21:18:00
The outstanding New Advent website has one of the most exciting resources on the internet, the Catholic Encylopedia from 1903. I dig in there from time to time; I like the old-style writing and the mild shock I sometimes get from reading something free of modern PC. I invite you to delve in with me. Let's start with the most important of the three Divine virtues as per St. Paul. Briefly, practical application of this virtue for me means wishing the best for people- friends, enemies, and those in between regardless of whether their good fortune affects me positively or not.* from All posters Love: Love (Theological Virtue) The third and greatest of the Divine virtues enumerated by St. Paul (1 Corinthians 13:13), usually called charity, defined: a divinely infused habit, inclining the human will to cherish God for his own sake above all things, and man for the sake of God. This definition sets off the main characteristics of charity: ... Read more!
