The vocational rehabilitation task group, which will be led by workplace health 'tsar' Dame Carol Black, will be made up of government officials and representatives from the general public, businesses and insurers. Its aim, according to the Department for Work and Pensions, is to identify what services are currently available, why businesses do not provide more support and what needs to be done to increase understanding and ensure wider provision. In particular, the taskforce will be looking at why it is that so few employers offer occupational health or vocational rehabilitation to their employees. The standards were launched this week by the Vocational Rehabilitation Association (VRA), a voluntary body promoting good practice at a conference hosted by the Department for Work and Pensions in London. The aim is to develop further standards and accredited qualifications to make sure those offering return-to-work services are properly trained, and the move supports the government?s strategy to get people of incapacity benefits and into work. 2007-04-28 05:51:00 Determining my desired vocational course is rather daunting. The ensuing anxiety is surpassed only by the gravity of pledging myself in marriage. I fear becoming locked into a career which I loathe and provides little money to boot. There?s a lot of pressure which accompanies growing older, graduating college, and determining a subsequent course of action. Up this point, my biggest decisions have been selecting a college to attend and to love a particular woman to whom I have since proposed. Both are certainly major and established certain parameters which may restrict later decision, but I had a higher degree of confidence that those were the decisions I wanted to make. I don?t have the same certainty when it comes to my vocation.My unconscious method to forestall this decision has been to continue my education. After college I considered taking a year away from academics, the constant obligation and responsibility to read and write out of compulsion had long begun to drain me. How... |
