Comreg is the Commission for Communication Regulation in Ireland.Guidance for Service/Network providersThere are a number of steps which therefore need to be taken by market players. Directory ServicesIn the first instance the service provider who assigns a telephone number to a subscriber must inform the subscriber of their right to an entry in the NDD, the different categories of records i.e. listed, unlisted or ex-directory and the functionality associated with each category.Subscribers should be asked to signify their preference in relation to an NDD listing As the regulations define the NDD as a record of all subscribers ?who have not refused to be included?, Comreg recommends that the default option should be listed? with the subscriber offered the opportunity to modify this to unlisted or ex-directory. OFCOM Demands E999 and E112 Services from VoIP Providers To UK Customers

OFCOM the Telecom regulator in UK is concerned that VoIP providers do not provide emergency services calls and has decided to act because of the growing popularity of VoIP. We have reported about it in last July but now OFCOM have released the revised documentations and regulations.Ofcom said the same condition will apply to VoIP providers from 8th September next year. Traditional landline and mobile telephones provide emergency services for free on 999 and 112 equivalent of 911 in the USA. In USA all VoIP Providers need to provide E911 Services. FCC is the regulatory equivalent of OFCOM.OFCOM has laid out all the necessary requirements including exclusions and inclusions. Nov 13, 2007: The 911 Modernization and Public Safety Act passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The bill will promote and enhance public safety by facilitating the rapid deployment of IP-enabled 911 and E-911 services, encourage the Nation's transition to a national IP-enabled emergency network, and improve 911 and E-911 access to those with disabilities. The vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill, needing a two-thirds majority. The totals were 406 Ayes, 1 Nays, 25 Present/Not Voting. The country's telecom watchdog fined Aktel Tk 145 crore for its involvement in the illegal use of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) or call termination business.Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in a press release said during recent raids by the law enforces, Aktel's involvement in illegal call termination business was ascertained.Talking to The Daily Star, BTRC Chairman Maj Gen (retd) Manzurul Alam said, "Aktel has already paid Tk 72.50 crore to the national exchequer." Telekom Malaysia International Bangladesh (TMIB) is the 70 percent stakeholder of Aktel.Aktel is not alone in paying the government compensation.
