Standing for Smaller Government Will Help GOP Win Perot Voters
2009-09-22 10:38:00 It seemed sweetly serendipitous that barely forty-eight hours after speculating about the potential for “Perot voters” (those particularly concerned about the exploding federal debt) to decide the 2010 — and possibly the 2012 — election that I would chance upon a Gallup poll showing that Americans are more likely than ever to say the government ...

Will Perot Voters Determine Outcome in 2010 (& 2012)?
2009-09-18 23:03:00 One of the reasons I’ve been bullish on Republican chances against incumbent Democratic Senators in such red states as California, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin in next fall’s electons, not to mention purple states like Colorado and Nevada (as well as red states like North Dakota) is that in 1992 and 1996, Ross Perot ran better ...

Republicans risk losing Latino voters by opposing Sotomayor
2009-07-28 19:29:00 The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the Supreme Court nomination of Sonia Sotomayor today in a 13-6 vote but it was almost entirely a partisan affair. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina was the only Republican to vote for Sotomayor. There are more than enough votes for her to be confirmed in the full Senate so the Republicans are just doing this just to show they won't support a wise Latina woman. But this is, and I will say it like President Obama, this is STUPID.Why?Just look at the Hispanic demographics of the states of the Republicans who voted against Sotomayor on the judiciary committee. They risk alienating Latino voters. In Alabama, Latinos are 2.7 percent and in Iowa 4 percent of the population....

William Jefferson, who has been battling scandals and a federal indictment for the past three years, lost his bid for re-election on Saturday. Republican challenger Anh “Joseph” Cao, an attorney and community organizer, defeated Jefferson in the 2nd Congressional district race. A federal judge in Ohio has ruled that counties must allow homeless voters to list park benches and other locations that aren't buildings as their addresses.U.S. District Judge Edmund Sargus also ruled that provisional ballots can't be invalidated because of poll worker errors.Monday's ruling resolved the final two pieces of a settlement between the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. The coalition agreed to drop a constitutional challenge to Ohio's voter identification law until after the Nov. 4 election. In return, Brunner and the coalition agreed on procedures to verify provisional ballots across all Ohio counties. The coalition was concerned that unequal treatment of provisional ballots would disenfranchise some voters.SOURCE

A Cautionary Lesson For Philly Absentee Voters
2008-10-15 21:10:00 A family member living in the 19111 area code of Philadelphia applied for an absentee ballot from the registration office at 520 Delaware Avenue, and it was delivered to her location not long ago. The self-addressed return envelope to the Philadelphia Elections Office at 142 City Hall that accompanied the ballot showed that no postage was required, so the ballot was completed and mailed back without it. However, the envelope with the ballot was returned to her home address a few days after it was mailed.A call to the Elections Office at 142 City Hall resulted in the discovery that postage is indeed required for the self-addressed return envelopes, even though they indicate that no postage is required if the envelope is mailed within the U.S.So, if you live in Philadelphia and are mailing an absentee ballot to the elections office in City Hall, postage must be included even though the return envelope indicates otherwise. Hopefully, spreading this knowledge will result in fewer mixups...

Washington Post Poll Shows Likely Voters Backing Obama By Wide Margin
2008-09-24 15:00:00 As I've written in the recent past, when likely voters tend to be Republican. What does it say when the majority tilt toward the Democratic Candidate? Well that's what's happening in today's Washington Post poll. See below: Turmoil in the financial industry and growing pessimism about the economy have altered the shape of the presidential race, giving Democratic nominee Barack Obama the first clear lead of the general-election campaign over Republican John McCain, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News national poll. Just 9 percent of those surveyed rated the economy as good or excellent, the first time that number has been in single digits since the days just before the 1992 election. Just 14 percent said the country is heading in the right direction, equaling the record low on that question in polls dating back to 1973. More voters trust Obama to deal with the economy, and he currently has a big edge as the candidate who is more in tune with the economic pr...

A Call to Emmy Voters: Stop Voting For ‘Name’ Guest Actors
2008-07-08 13:01:00 Is it just me, or is there something really fishy about the recently leaked list of Top Ten Emmy Semifinalists for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Category? While I’ve got nothing against any of this years more-than-worthy list of semifinalists.
