Why I'm NOT voting Derrick Rose to the All-Star Game
2012-01-14 16:54:00 Derrick Rose is in the express lane to the Hall of Fame. From Rookie of the Year – skip a year – to All-Star, all before the end of his rookie contract. Derrick’s had such an impact in the NBA in his short tenure, that he already has a emblazoned himself in league doctrine, having a... Read more »

The Ramble for 12-26-11 Voting Rights, Vs Ensured Leftist Rule;Lugar’
2011-12-26 19:35:00 Sloatsburg,NY– I’m here after driving most of the day. A quick run from rochester to Bethlehem Pennsylvania, then over to Quakertown for a loadfew of paper towels. – Voting rights: over at questions and observations, Bruce McQuain in his usual take no prisoners style … which, frankly I’ve always admired, proceeds to blow up the Liberal argument surrounding the voting rights act in south Carolina. Bruce McQuain If you write a check, buy liquor or any of a myriad of different transactions throughout the year, you are asked or required to produce a valid state issued ID. Does that adversely effect the ability of minorities to write checks or buy alcohol? Then there’s driving. No license, no driving. Quite so. there’s only one reason that Eric holder in his happy little band of socialist minions is chasing this particular ghost. They are black racists, seeking to ensure a socialist future. As Bruce says, this is…. …The same ...

Indian Chief Election Commissioner Casts Doubts On Online Voting
2011-09-08 07:43:00 In a political environment which is already charged due to the agitation for Jan Lokpal, everyone is either actively participating or has strong opinions towards Government policies . It is imperative that the most basic aspect of democracy must be perfected to accommodate the people who have started taking an interest in Indian Politics. The logical way forward seems to be that the entire voting system should be taken online. This has its benefits as it makes the process easier and more efficient than usual. However, India’s Chief Election Commissioner begs to differ. Mr. S.Y. Quraishi recently remarked that online voting will be a unsafe venture. One of the valid fears that Mr. Quraishi feels is that the anonymity of the web will make it difficult to roll out such a feature in India at the moment. He feels that the government may not always be able to establish the identify the voter. He said, “Technology is not an issue for implementing e-voting. But it is not feasible in ...

Soriano, Currently 9th in ASG Voting, Placed on DL; Colvin Recalled
2011-06-01 00:33:00 It was a mixed bag of news for Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano today, as it was announced that he is currently in 9th place among National League outfielders in All-Star voting, and also announced that he had been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained quadriceps muscle that he sustained on Monday. The announcement that Soriano was headed to the DL was not a surprise. Anyone who saw him come up lame while trying to stretch out an infield single in Monday's game knew immediately that it wasn't just some type of cramp, and with Soriano's history of leg injuries with the team, it almost seemed overdue for him to be on the shelf with one. Replacing Soriano in...

Voting Democrat is Wholly Illogical Based Only on Childish Feelings
2011-04-09 19:59:00 -By Warner Todd Huston This is one of those chain emails that I rarely bother with. But this one is particularly funny and bitingly true. Well, true after I rewrote it a bit... Why I Vote Democrat I voted Democrat because I believe a 4% profit by oil companies on a gallon of gas is obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% (or more) isn't. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending my money than I can. I voted Democrat because because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it. And if I can stop those other people from saying those things...
Merrily Singing My Way To The Voting Booth -- Won't You Join Me?
2011-04-05 03:08:00 Since the beginning of time (at least time measured in Crystal years), musicals have been my passion and favorite means of escapism. They still remain my greatest birthday-shooting-star-blowing--dandelions-in-the-breeze wish that my daily life would magically involve synchronized dancing and harmonized singing. I dream of singing my way to school pick-up each day, dressed in a big, fluffy gown and greeting the children at dismissal all singing about how delighted they are by my arrival. And then, we would all dance our way back to my house, twirling parasols and canes in a colorful parade of joy. My favorite movie remains Disney's Mary Poppins. Sure, I have toyed with other movies as temporary favorites. I have tried their names on my...

Wisconsin State Senators Hide in IL to Prevent Voting
2011-02-19 00:39:00 From the Chicago Tea Party... Stand with Governor Scott Walker This Saturday in Wisconsin What is happening in Wisconsin right now could prove to be a turning point in the fight against big government. Democrat State Senators in the state of Wisconsin have decided that the public sector unions are more important than representative democracy and the consent of the people. The voters in Wisconsin elected a Republican Governor, U.S. Senator and state legislature in November, but the Democrats don't appear to think elections matter. The public sector unions are proving they are only interested in one thing: power....

Democracy: The Politics of Voting and Education
2010-11-03 11:20:00 My friend Meg has a pretty darn interesting life. We met at school, grew up taking dance classes together. I landed in Chicago, and she's lived abroad, hiked all over the world and has landed, for now, in Pecks, Hungary. I follow her Wanderlust Adventures and found one of her recent posts most interesting. Democracy and Non-Democratic Parties by: Megan Black. She posed the following question, to I realized I had a pretty lengthy reply. "In a democracy, do we have the right to vote in a party with non-democratic values? Hitler and his party were voted into power democratically. Are human-rights innately democratic issues? Do we need some sort of "moral code" of democracy...but wouldn't that too be undemocratic?...

King Street Patriots And Voting Chaos: State Officials Don't Know What
2010-11-01 22:26:00 -By Warner Todd Huston For those of you following along, I have been here in Houston, Texas all week following the spirited, grassroots, all-volunteer efforts of the King Street Patriots and their True The Vote project as they fan out across Houston as poll watchers assuring that early voting has been free, fair, and legal. They are poised to do the same for November 2, the final day of voting. It has been enlightening, not to mention educational, to sit here at the King Streeter's HQ observing the poll watcher training sessions. Harris County Democrats have charged that the Streeters are "overzealous and undertrained," but as I watched the extensive training sessions (some of them observed by Civil Court...

What's behind the early voting?
2010-10-22 04:40:00 Suburban officials are noting that early voting is at record highs for the Nov. 2 election. And no one seems to know why.In northwestern Buffalo Grove, there is some speculation that the initiative to recall Board Trustee Lisa Stone may be fueling the increase, while others speculate that people are mad a shell and aren't going to take it anymore.Welcome to the suburbs Howard Beale. It may just be that voters are saying "As mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.Perhaps the lingering slow economy has hit home to the cozy burbs and residents and village officials may see the proverbial mid-term elections as a time to strike back. who thought the public service cutbacks would the...
Democrats are awake and voting!
2010-10-22 00:31:00 Look out Republicans & Tea Party nut jobs, the rumors of your electoral victories may have been grossly exaggerated! As the days pass to November 2nd, an increasing majority of Democrats who were believed to be disengaged this cycle are showing up to vote early. I for one don't believe the hype from the panicked Republican spin machine that they are tuning in higher early voting totals. That is inconsistent with every historical model on the party that I know of. More importantly, a casual GOOGLE search shows a spike in blog & aggregators stories that claim Republican voting and outpacing of Democrats that fly in the face of the pollsters and the generalized news media. I don't buy it for one second. It wreaks of wishful thinking and branding. Some claims of early voter success sound too targeted, like they are designed to encourage that voting pool to show up because heretofore they are missing in the early totals. I think the ...
Early Voting goes into full swing today
2010-10-12 10:57:00 Early voting begins today throughout the Chicago area

You don't need to make any special arrangements and you don't need a reason. It is just like voting on election day, only...earlier.You can vote at any of the sites in the county in which you are registered, but you will need to present a valid government ID. In DuPage County there will be 12 sites open for early voting, including a location at Yorktown Mall. Hours vary for each of the sites. Can YOU Get Motivated About Voting for Mayor?
2010-09-29 02:17:00 In about 5 months voters in Chicago will vote for a new mayor. Each day that goes by someone else announces that he or she will run or is at least seriously thinking about it. Today, Gery Chico, Chairman of the City College Board announced that he will run for mayor. As we move forward, besides Chico, you already have State Senator Rickey Hendon and my predecessor, City Clerk Miguel del Valle. On the horizon, Rahm Emanuel, Sherriff Tom Dart, Reverend James Meeks, Terry Peterson, Carol Moseley Braun, Congressman Luis Gutierrez, Congressman Dan Davis and a host of wannabes including half of the city council. My real question here is: Who brings something new to the table? Who is that breath...

Surprise! There's an election tomorrow and YOU'RE voting!
2010-02-01 22:00:00 Ok lesbos, soapbox time. As surely many of you know, tomorrow is an election day. And I would bet that many people were not planning on voting. Honesty corner, I find these local elections very overwhelming. However, we cannot continue to make noise about not having equal rights and gay marriage if we're not going to get our butts to the poll and vote in the very elections that elect the seemingly minor lawmakers who inevitably determine these major issues. There are like 4000 candidates and again, honesty corner, I really have not been up on the issues surrounding water reclamation of late...or ever. I somehow ended up on email distributions of candidates I've never even heard of, and I get...
Early Voting Turnout Down
2010-01-28 00:27:00 This isn't terribly surprising given that these are primaries we're talking about. It's even less surprising if compared to 2008, when Obama was on the ballot. Still, low turnout usually favors incumbents or more establishment candidates, if we're trying to read the tea leaves here:Early voting for the Feb. 2 primary ends Thursday, and while turnout has been relatively low this year, election officials still expect a last-minute rush of people trying to beat the deadline. In Chicago, only about 27,000 of the city's 1.5 million registered voters have cast an early ballot since that option became available Jan. 11. That's a dramatic drop from 2008, when hometown pride for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama spurred 81,000 city voters to the...

A Double Standard In This Year's MLB Hall Of Fame Voting....
2010-01-06 18:59:00 Working as a producer in sports talk radio, you get into a lot of conversations about random things in sports. For my entry today I would like to discuss a conversation Dustin Rhodes (Executive Producer Mully And Hanley Mornings) and myself had before we closed out our show today. The discussion was about the probable induction of Roberto Alomar into baseball's hall of fame. The conversation began because as Roberto Alomar's image flashed on the television screen this morning, it opened the door to the bitter hate Dustin had for the former White Sox second baseman. Dustin told me that Alomar should not be allowed into the hall of fame because of the famous September 27, 1996 spitting incident where...
Patrick Sharp Issues Statement About Voting Controversy
2009-12-01 23:21:00 Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Sharp has obviously been through a lot today. Early this morning he learned that he'd won the honor of Chicago's Sexiest Athlete via the Victoria's Secret What's Sexy Now Chicago? site, only to be later stripped of his title. Despite visual evidence to the contrary, Victoria's Secret execs have assured fans that Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose did, in fact, garner the most votes. State officials may never be able to prove that the voting was tampered with, so for now Sharp will have to accept the spurious defeat. Sharp obviously wanted to be with his family at this difficult time, but I was able to reach him via text message. He thanked his fans for...

Off-Year Election Voting Always Dismal
2009-11-04 14:21:00 Photo: MorguefileAmericans love to complain. I'm an American, and I love to complain, at least. But when I look around at my fellow citizens, I notice that we all agree on one thing: Bitching is fun. It's not just fun. It's like a drug and an orgasm and a cheeseburger all wrapped up into one. People like to complain so much that sometimes they'll do so without having the faintest clue what they're actually talking about. Our steroidal 24-hour news network-driven national conversation basically makes everyone think he or she is an expert. However, then it comes time to vote, and who shows up? Yesterday was Election Day, a totally unsacred, who-gives-a-flying-coitus, all-American holiday, in which millions of eligible...

Linda McMahon Acknolwledges Not Voting in Several Elections
2009-09-22 20:47:00 "I talk all the time about how important it is for people to vote. And it is. Yet, I haven't always been the best example myself. I missed a general election vote in ‘06. I missed several local elections. I didn't vote in the ’08 presidential primary after John McCain was the presumptive nominee. I regret it, I apologize, and I don't make any excuses for it. I think it’s important that leaders be willing to step up and own their mistakes when they make them. That’s how I plan to run my campaign, and it’s how I intend to represent Connecticut in the U.S. Senate."source: linda2010.com
