Vudu Releases XL, Software And Hardware Updates
2008-03-05 05:30:00 I love the VUDU (read my review here), I think it's a killer product that ALL home theatre enthusiasts should check out. They released an update that allows movies to be backed up to an external hard drive, as promised. Also, the Vudu XL (1 TB of storage plus other goodies) has been released. 2008-01-27 16:52:00 The Vudu is a device you hook up to your Internet connection (I recommend a 2 mbps minimum connection, which is the lower DSL speeds) and you can download and watch movies and TV shows instantly (many of the first couple of minutes of the films are cached on the drive, so you can get instant viewing). You can buy or rent these high-quality movies, including hi def versions of the Bourne film series that look like HD DVD to my eye. Plus, it comes with a 250 GB hard drive!The new price of $295 makes it very attractive to the movie and TV fan, so I highly recommend getting one at Vudu.com. From inception, we've been hooked on the concept, and while we've had our reservations about it, our hopes were bolstered after checking it out at CEDIA. After release, a number of reviewers found the device to be interesting, relatively useful and unfortunately hamstrung, but we still see quite a bit of promise in the box. In its current form, there's no denying that the limitations are stifling. Right out of the box, you're stuck with a smallish internal hard drive that fills up quickly if you prefer your material in high-definition, and even if you look to external HDDs to catch the overflow, you're still left with content that's hardly portable.
