2008-06-11 05:49:00 With a number of pitchers already on the disabled list, the Cardinals got more bad news on Monday night and will have to place Adam Wainwright on the DL. Wainwright, who will officially go on the DL on Tuesday, is suffering from a finger sprain. The Cardinals' de facto ace injured his right middle finger while pitching against the Houston Astros on Saturday. Wainwright said he felt a little pain in his finger prior to the start. He had to be taken out in the sixth inning while pitching to Darin Erstad. Wainwright is 6-3 on the year with a 3.14 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 13 starts.

Today, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says a contract is done, pending a physical. According to Goold: The guaranteed part of the new contract is four years and expected to be worth around $15 million, and it will buy out Wainwright?s arbitration years, through 2011. The deal has an option that would cover the first two years of his free agency, sources said. Guaranteeing all three arb years (2009-11) plus the first of free agency (2012) would differentiate this from the other recent young pitcher deals. I'm a bit confused, because $15MM for Wainwright's three arb years plus his first of free agency would mean the pitcher got hosed. Usually it costs the team around $13-14MM just for the three arb years, and Wainwright wouldn't give away a free agency year for a million or two. Loudon Wainwright III Rerecording Tracks From First Three Albums
2007-11-27 05:38:00 Loudon Wainwright III is going back in time with Joe Henry, his collaborator on the Knocked Up soundtrack and the album Strange Weirdos.Specifically, the pair have rerecorded a number of songs from Wainwright's first three albums, using Henry's band. Wainwright reports that, "These songs are all over 35 years old. Some of which I had to re-learn again . They were voice-and-guitar records before. So this is kind of a reclaiming of these old songs of mine but with this unit of players that I've really loved to work with. It's pretty cool."While they've kept the same arrangements, the singer admits "my voice has changed radically, so some of them may sound a little different to people. But I wouldn't say we deconstructed anything, particularly.
