Daniel Vickerman rates MyoQuip strength machines as "absolutely fantastic"
2009-01-13 19:53:00
Dan Vickerman is recognised as one of the top lineout forwards in world rugby. Born in South Africa, he has the unusual distinction of having represented both South Africa and Australia at the Under-21 level. In 2002 he made his debut for the Wallabies against France, going on to make 55 Test appearances. He played Super Rugby with the ACT Brumbies from 2001 to 2003 and the NSW Waratahs from 2004 to 2008.Having been forced to study online throughout his first degree, a Bachelor of Financial Planning through Open Universities Australia (RMIT), he responded to the opportunity to study at Cambridge by suspending his international rugby career to enjoy the luxury of full time study. He is now reading for a degree in Land Economy at Cambridge's Hughes Hall.At 204cm, Dan's limb geometry is unsuited for exercises such as the squat. Not surprisingly he acknowledges that "I have suffered from back injuries in the past due to the nature of some exercises in the gym." In fact, a very high pr...
Benn Robinson popping Phil Vickery in the scrum
2008-11-20 04:45:00
I know it's impolite to gloat and tempting the fates for an Australian to boast about Wallaby scrummaging but the Green and Gold Rugby blog site has the most extraordinary footage of the Wallabies tearing apart the English pack and in particular Benn Robinson turning Phil Vickery inside out. The sequence cycles endlessly in the post, Robinson smashes Vickery showing very clearly the delivery of force from the players behind the dominant prop.It is the most wonderful feeling when you are the 'popper' and both humiliating and often frightening when you are the 'poppee'. I don't know whether that's a word but it is now.
At last! A dominant Wallaby scrum
2008-11-17 22:28:00
Aussie aficionados of trench-warfare rugby will enjoy the video, "Wallabies scrums from Twickenham video highlights" posted on Green and Gold Rugby - THE Aussie Rugby Blog. It's been a long time between drinks for the Aussie engine room, and great to see them vindicated after the bagging they copped pre-game from the English press and frontrowers. Considering the improved scrummaging on this tour, perhaps the fact that the Wallabies and all four Australian Super 14 franchises use the ScrumTruk is beginning to pay dividends.Still one egg doesn't make an omelette, and the Green and Golds have to show they can do it again against the French this weekend. I am not sure that the English front row, Andy Sheridan in particular, are going to be in too good a shape to back up again against the Springboks.
The MyoTruk replaces the ScrumTruk in the MyoQuip range
2008-10-19 03:57:00
MyoQuip is proud to announce the release of the MyoTruk, the second release in our Myo range of strength equipment embodying direct-linkage force transmission through heavy-duty industrial bearings. The MyoTruk replaces the ScrumTruk, the first and only rugby-specific strength machine. The ScrumTruk has proven effective in safely enhancing the strength, power and body mass of rugby players, both backs and forwards, as well as athletes in other sports. Unlike most variable resistance machines the ScrumTruk was designed for complex, multi-joint and large muscle mass movement. In rugby the ScrumTruk has been adopted by the Wallabies; Emirates Western Force; HSBC Waratahs; Queensland Reds; Auckland Blues; Northampton Saints; Sharks; Golden Lions and other leading clubs and schools.Already its successor, the MyoTruk, has been adopted by the CA Brumbies; the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS); and Sydney Uni Sport & FitnessFind out more about the MyoTruk

Wallabies 2008 - the dawn of a new era?
2008-06-02 22:30:00
Because of what happened in a certain quarter final, our last memory of the Wallabies is a pretty bleak one. But that overpowers what were a few shoots of optimism starting to bloom for Australia. With the arrival of Aussie Robbie and the announcement today of the Australian squads, you can feel this optimism surging again, but far more deservedly so. First of all there's Aussie Robbie (I see... ....follow link for more
2008 Wallabies Squad announced
2008-06-02 08:05:00
The 30 man train on squad for the Wallabies 2008 (list below) was announced by Aussie Robbie Deans earlier today. Apparently he had no hand in selection (due to his NZ contract still being in place), but having taken note of our Poll, there aren't that many contentious decisions that weren't forced by injury or the looming U20s world cup. In the forwards Richard Brown gets a deserved nod for his... ....follow link for more

IRB To Add Another Big International Fixture?
2008-02-27 15:25:00
When the IRB meets with the heads of the leading rugby unions this weekend in Hong Kong, one of the topics of discussion will be whether or not to add another big international fixture to the schedule each year. The idea is, a one-off match between the winner of the Tri-Nations taking on the winner of ...

A New Zealander may coach the Wallabies, the Australian Rugby team...
2007-12-10 04:45:00
A New Zealander, Robbie Deans, from my home town of Christchurch in Canterbury, is now the favoured candidate to takeover as coach of the Australian Wallabies Rugby team, after being turned down by the NZRU. Most American readers probably don't realise that a New Zealander coached the American Eagles Rugby team at the recent Rugby World Cup. read more
The world cup & the wallabies; a post-mortem
2007-10-26 19:05:00
Has it been long enough for the depression to recede to a point where we can actually have a look at the world cup and what Australia can take from it, without wincing with pain and changing the subject? The stage we went out of the cup, who it was against and how the Wallabies played in that game, were undeniably all deeply disappointing. To the point that all and sundry have labeled it a... ....follow link for more
Wallabies wobbled!
2007-10-06 17:49:00
I have had my most enjoyable sporting moment since we won The Ashes. Against all the odds we have knocked the Aussies out of the Rugby World Cup. Oz was out for revenge after our beating them in the final four years ago. They were favorites but the English terriers were not the underdogs on the day. Happiness is beating the Aussies! Tonight I shall support the Frogs against the All Blacks.

Wallabies vs Fiji RWC'07 player ratings
2007-09-24 22:23:00
To be honest, Saturday's was the kind of scrappy effort that left me uninspired when it comes to writing player ratings. So instead, I've shamelessly ripped off the anonymous ones syndicated by AAP and stuck on my own thoughts in green. Feel free to take a shot or defend them if they're yours... Wallabies vs Wales: Result and score
2007-09-15 19:47:00
Wales 20 - Australia 32 Today the Wallabies showed far too much class for Wales, but at the same time made far too many errors. This should really have been a 50 pointer. RWC: All Blacks & Wallabies Cruise To Easy Victories
2007-09-08 17:37:00
Two of rugby's power houses cruised to easy opening victories today. The All Blacks disposed of Italy 76-14 while the Aussies destroyed Japan 91-3. I predicted both wins, however, I honestly felt Japan would at least make the game entertaining. Man was I off.Getting ready to watch the USA vs England clash. I'm a little nervous seeing how easily New Zealand & Australia won versus "underdogs", guess I can only hope for the best.I'll hop back online following the U.S. game and give you my thoughts. I may even sneak in during half time. Good Luck Eagles!!!

Australia vs Japan - Wallabies team and news
2007-09-05 23:43:00
Knuckles has named his team for Australia's world cup owner on Saturday, saying that it's the first choice side. While it's good news that the full strength side is fit at this stage, the even better news is that they're starting to belt seven shades out of each other at training. Why's this good? As Wallaby Push and Shove explains: A healthy squad is the kind that can take their lumps from... ....follow link for more
Tales of two very different Wallabies
2007-08-22 23:13:00
There are two very different stories in the press at the moment about two Wallabies. One - David Lyons - is quite literally putting his life on the line for his country. The other - Lote Tuqiri - seems to be spinning headlong into the endgame of his union career. The Lyons story I'm finding pretty amazing. Journo's are writing about the blood clot in his calf like it was just a nasty bruise. The... ....follow link for more
New Wallabies jersey for RWC 2007

While the new jerseys do make 'em look like they have man-boobs (not a good look for the supporters) it probably was about time we caught up with the rest of the world on this front. Rugby World Cup 2007: Wallabies squad announced
2007-07-24 11:56:00
The Australian squad to go to France was announced last night. While there weren't too many howls about players left out, there aren't many slaps on the back for any visionary selections either. In the backs, Huxley (lucky idiot) and Berrick Barnes made it in.While Barnes hasn't had a great year for the failing Reds and Beale is obviously the future, he does have a lot more top grade footy under the belt than Beale, who is not yet ready for the biggest stage. We can also be thankful they went for Barnes over Norton-Knight, who is a disaster at five-eighth. In the end, should (or when) Bernie Larkham gets injured, it'll be Gits to 10 and Staniforth to 12, so the back up is really for second string cover. One gamble I would have taken though is Lachlan Turner on the wing. He proved himself at S14 and should have been given a run out at least for the Wallabies. He has more pace and physicality than Mitchell. The pack is relatively straight forward until you get to the front row. Dunni...

Tri-Nations Wallabies vs Springboks player ratings
2007-07-10 12:19:00
OVERALL it was an error ridden performance by the Australia against South Africa on Saturday, but here's how I rated the performances, and what it means for selection going forward.15. Huxley 5/10 - I keep wanting this guy to have a great game as we can sorely need some of the tactical and line kicking skills he can bring. Unfortunately, I don't think we can wait for him to lose the yips and put on 3 stone. It will be interesting to see how Saint Latho goes against the ABs.14. Ashley-Cooper 8/10 - I've been forced to eat my words about his move to wing. His strength and class has shown through, to a point where I believe Tuqiri is no longer an auto-selection. Exciting times ahead if he continues like this11. Mark Gerrard 7.5/10 - Might seem a bit harsh as he scored one try and set up another with a grubber kick to Giteau. However, there too many other mistakes and as a balance with AA-C or Tuqiri we need more pace, like a Mitchell or Ioane. With his boot could replace Huxley at ...
'B-Boks' give Wallabies a scare
2007-07-09 11:00:00
Derided by the Australian media as the "B-Boks" in the run-up to their Tri-Nations test in Sydney on Saturday, the Springboks - with about 20 players left behind for the away leg of the series - gave the Wallabies a scare, running up a 17-0 lead before losing 25-17.

Wallabies versus All Blacks analysis
2007-07-02 14:23:00
It's all in the mindWith Australian hopes sky high after Saturday?s game, the question is; just how much can we read into this victory? Already New Zealanders are putting their spin on it; from Graham Henry ?the loss we needed to have, it?ll be good for us?. It was after all, a home game for the Wallabies and the All Blacks were half way through a grueling tour. Surely this is just a one game blip. Or is it?First of all, what will this loss really mean to the All Blacks themselves? Anton Oliver gave a fascinating insight into this with an interview on the day before the game. In it he said ?they (Australia) are somewhat more mature than other countries in that, if a performance doesn?t go their way, they are able to just flush that, pick themselves up and play the next week. It doesn?t sink them. If New Zealand were to lose a game, the economy goes skyrocketing down. Domestic violence goes up ? well, I am not sure that happens. But we possibly take it far more seriously.?This is th...
What changes for the Wallabies?
2007-06-21 23:19:00
Everyone agrees that the Wallabies showed an impressive level of grit against South Africa last Saturday. So is the team now set, or are there improvements on selection to be made?I believe there are small but important changes to made: 1) I?m gobsmacked Staniforth wasn?t on the bench for the test in Cape Town. Is he injured? He can cover anything from 11 to 14 and gives us the option of having Giteau at 10. I believe we should actually be giving this set up the odd run-out to a) see how off the pace Larkham is and b) get ready for Larkham?s injury. Ashley-Cooper simply doesn?t give the same options. 2) Chisholm vs Hoiles as first replacement 6. Wrong choice. Keep Chisholm on the bench ?till the end to cover whole back row and second row. Hoiles could have really made a difference on Sat, Chisholm is just tall timber. Otherwise what we?ve got is what we?ve got. Let?s build on from last Saturday, rather than throw the baby out out with the bathwater.
Qantas Wallabies begin training camp
2007-01-03 17:05:00
In order to reach a good level for the Rugby World Cup, a 47-man Qantas Wallabies World Cup training squad assembled in Canberra today for the first day of a 3-day camp.In fact, there are only nine months left before the kick off to rugby's showcase event, the Wallaby training squad is in camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) to undergo many different physical exams and an orientation program ahead of the 2007 season.Included in the Australian team are three players who are making their first appearance in a Wallabies squad, including Reds prop Ben Coutts, Reds flyhalf Berrick Barnes and Brumbies flanker Julian Salvi. We must consider that Qantas Wallabies Coach John Connolly thinks the anticipation for the new rugby season was growing among the players."I can feel that everyone is looking forward the year ahead, with so much rugby to be played between now and the World Cup," said Connolly.Indeed, Connolly admitted that the camp would provide a springboard for the Wallabie...
McKenzie says no to Wallabies job - for now
2006-01-10 01:48:00
[Summary: Ewen McKenzie's decision not to contest the Wallaby coaching position highlights the need for the organizational structure of the coaching team to be decided by the head coach rather than the ARU bureaucrats.]Ewen McKenzie's decision to withdraw his application for the Wallabies coaching position highlights a couple of interesting issues.Firstly it draws attention to how unusual it is for the position to be filled by an ex-Wallaby player. To my knowledge there have been only three: Bryan Palmer, John Solomon and Dave Brockhoff. So it is 26 years since Australia has had an ex-international as coach. McKenzie, of course, had a very long and distinguished incumbency of the Wallaby tight-head position.Although I am not really familiar with the rugby history of other nations, it would appear that the Australian situation is by no means unique. Most international coaches have not played at the top level. I would be grateful if someone can post details for any of the other rugb...
