I was never as big a fan of the series as some of my friends, but it did have its moments. The subtle homomegalomaniacism of Pinky & The Brain, for instance, never ceased making me wonder “how the hell did they get that past the censors?” But as the original Warner toons taught us, the best kids’ shows are really aimed at adults, anyway. The scariest - and funniest, probably - of all Tiny Toons characters was Elmira, the adorable little red-haired girl from Hell. And Elmira just loved animals. Loved them to bits. The WB issued this statement (courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter)There was a great deal of misinformation reported regarding the potential number of layoffs that might be implemented this week. We have worked very hard to come up with solutions -- such as implementing reduced work schedules -- to minimize layoffs. Because of these measures, fewer than three dozen positions were affected this week.We will continue to explore alternatives to layoffs, including redeployment to other areas of our businesses. CES Coverage: Warner Brothers Drops HD DVD in Favor of Blue-Ray Disc
2008-01-08 17:07:00 Is the format war over? God I hope so! It looks like Blue-Ray is becoming the standard for high definition DVD distribution (beating it's competitor HD-DVD). Blue-Ray DVD is backed by Sony, Panasonic and Samsung, while HD DVD is supported by Toshiba, Microsoft and Intel. Hollywood studios have been pretty supportive of Blue Ray as well, being backed up by five of the seven big Hollywood studios. Paramount and Universal are now the only ones backing HD-DVD. What does this mean to new media creators? If Blue-Ray becomes THE format for high definition DVD authoring, then it will make our lives easier, since we already have way too many formats that we need to publish to (SD DVD, iPod, AppleTV, Flash, Windows Media, etc.) I think 2008 will be the year Blue Ray takes over. 2007-11-20 06:45:00 Straight Edge record label Seventh Dagger was in talks with Warner Bros. for a distribution deal but decided to not go forward. I agree whole heartedly with Danny's decision. The big labels always try to find the next best thing and then over do it, drainthe life from it, and move on. They'd end up oversaturating hardcore and straight-edge with new artists that probably aren't even true to hardcore or SxE like they did with Avril (she was a little Shania Twain wanna-be that they turned into a pop-punk grrl, with no real punk attitude.)It does make me worry though that Warner or another label is possibly looking to turn hardcore and straight-edge into something it's not. Let's hope for the best and if they screw with the genre, we will all be here after all the posers have come and gone.
