2007-04-02 19:45:00 Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has finally broken the record of taking most no. of world cup wickets of Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram. McGrath, who required just 1 more wicket to draw the record of Akram took 3 wickets in the match against Bangladesh and won Akram by two wickets. Akram played 38 matches and took 55 wickets at an average of just over 23 to make the record. In the other hand, McGrath played only 33 matches to take 57 wickets at an average of just over 19. Akram has taken 55 wickets in ODi and McGrath has 45, 10 short of Wasim’ record having lots of matches to be played in world cup.McGrath has retired from test cricket taking 563 wickets and can retire from ODI after the world cup cricket 2007. McGrath is second in world cup’s wicket takers followed by J Srinath, Allan Donald, Chaminda Vaas and Imran Khan. But it seems that his record will not last long as Vaas has already taken 36 wickets having to play about 3 more world cups. Glenn McGrath is a very disciplinary bowler who bowls in perfect line and length because of which he is also known as bowling machine.
