Matthew McConaughey Joins Orlando Bloom In Showerless Water Conservation
2008-03-17 16:08:00
A few weeks back, we told you about Orlando Bloom’s habit of wearing the same clothes sans washing for extended periods of time. This, of course, much to the dismay of girlfriend Miranda Kerr who has reportedly implored the actor to change his ’smelly’ ways. Anyways, according to several sources, it appears that Matthew McConaughey is ...

10 Water Conservation Tips
2008-01-23 22:27:00
Why Conserve? Water conservation is the most cost-effective and environmentally sound way to reduce our demand for water. The entire U.S. uses less water than it did 25 years ago, even though there are more people! Using less water also puts less pressure on our sewage treatment facilities, and uses less energy for water heating.1. Water your lawn only when it needs it. Step on your grass. If it springs back, when you lift your foot, it doesn't need water. So set your sprinklers for more days in between watering. Saves 750-1,500 gallons per month. Better yet, especially in times of drought, water with a hose. And best of all, convert your lawn to native plants.2. Fix leaky faucets, shower heads, and toilets. Can’t tell if a toilet is leaking? Put a few drops of food coloring in the water tank and see if it bleeds into the bowl without flushing: Saves 20 gallons per day for every leak stopped. Toilets - The ultra–low flush toilets use less than one and a half gallons to flush co...
Water Conservation in the Bath
2007-12-29 11:59:00
Conserving water is important in today’s world. We waste more water than we should. As relaxing as taking a long, hot bath in deep water is to relieve stress, we must think about the effects that has on our environment. That is why designer Lyndon Craig designed the Peak Bath. The Peak Bath was designed to fit the contour of our bodies while we are sitting in a tub taking a bath. The rise or

This drought doesn't just urge me to think about my car washes and how much water they *really* require from the city, it also encourages me to find better ways to reduce water pollution and help our dry community. How can my car washes become a model for even better water conservation? By recycling water, that's how.DID YOU KNOW? It only takes 14 gallons of water to wash your car. That's less than it takes to wash dishes in the sink. You can't avoid washing dishes, but a self-serve car wash can offset the price of clean plates.Water recycling systems may be installed at my self-serve car washes to filter water through an advanced filtering system. This means little to no water is needed from the city for each wash and reduces water pollution sent to city sewers. When it comes to water conservation, my car wash business understands. Carolina Car Washes Clean Your Car with Little Water
2007-12-24 19:52:00
New car for Christmas? There are two North Carolina car washes using high-pressure systems and special nozzles to maximize output and minimize water waste. With only 14 gallons of water, you can wash your new car after a dash through the snow or dirt. Try the six-bay in Raeford at 112 Harris Avenue or the new five-bay in Fayetteville at 7124 Cliffdale Road. Get it clean without wasting water, only at Carolina Car Wash.
Local Car Wash Owner Always Conserves Water, Rain or Shine
2007-12-22 21:54:00
While we received rain yesterday, it doesn't mean the drought's over. We must continue to conserve water. Take shorter showers. Spin fuller loads of laundry. Run faucets less. Remember: car washes with high-pressure nozzles use only 14 gallons of water per four-minute cycle to wash your car. That's ten times less water than it takes to clean your car with a garden hose. Water conservation is on all of our minds, even car wash owners. It's the right thing to do, rain or shine. What are you doing?

Water Conservation Starts @ Home

It only takes 14 gallons of water to wash your car here. It takes 100-300 at home: When government threatens to close car washes, who governs water use at home?
Want to Really Conserve Water? Do Your Laundry in the Pouring Rain!
2007-12-20 21:06:00
DinaAubry makes an interesting statement about car washing in the rain to conserve water use. A woman is spotted washing her car in the pouring rain: What's more interesting--and counters water conservation--is the spinning laundry heard in the background. Washing clothes takes 4X the water needed to wash a car.
Can Washing Your Car at Automat Car Wash Conserve Water? Yes!
2007-12-19 19:04:00
Water conservation is a very serious topic in North Carolina. Governor Mike Easley wants to point the finger at car washes, but I'm here to tell you that car washes use less water than many other industries. In fact, I have worked to conserve water.By using a high-pressure pump, I reduce the water needed to wash your car.  Adding a tip at the end of each car wash nozzle, I lower the amount of water to 3.5 gallons per minute--less than the amount of water needed to run a faucet at home. That's only 14 gallons for a four-minute car washing cycle! You absolutely cannot wash a car at home for less than 100 gallons. That's why my car wash isn't the problem--it's a solution. As this drought is urging the governor to ask citizens not to wash their cars, the hog plant is hogging 3 million gallons daily.

How To Optimize Your Garden for Drought or Water Conservation
2007-12-04 00:00:00
Being a gardener and based in Colorado, it has been stressful for me because this state has been experiencing a severe drought for years. Because of water scarce, the local government imposed prohibition to limit water consumption for plants and lawn. However, because I am implementing some effective strategies, My house is the only one ...
Close Down My Car Wash Business? Not Even When Pigs Fly, Mr. McIntyre!
2007-11-27 19:50:00
Mike McIntyre talks about dying crops and worried farmers of North Carolina. The problems worsen and the negative effects of this drought extend beyond their farms. He makes a great point: we're all affected, but car wash closure isn't smart. As harvests wither and clothes spin out of control, I ask: Why do pigs fly at Tar Heel?
Water Levels Drop: The Dire Need to Conserve Water in North Carolina
2007-11-07 18:50:00
There's a water crisis here in NC. I'm very concerned about how me and my family will be able to continue my livelihood on a shrinking amount of water available. As this shows how Falls Lake is drying, I'm finding ways to conserve water. Did you know that washing two cars at my business uses less water than one load of laundry?
Water Conservation: It's Not Easy with Easley's Anti-Car Wash Comments
2007-11-01 17:31:00
Who needs the most water? Food processing plants use more. Sewage treatment facilities filter more. Laundry needs plenty for each load. Political toilets require the most. But all continue to use more water without a threat to be shut down. Not car washes. What have North Carolinians been told? "Stop washing cars!" Eat pork, flush twice and wash a load of clothes each night. You can even make sure your lawn is green on "alternate days" of the week. But your car? Don't you dare use only 14 gallons--86 to 286 less than washing your car at home--when visiting my car wash. That just might turn out to be a crime if Mike Easley and other politicians get their way. It's amazing what flows freely from a politician's mouth when confronted with a water crisis. The sprinklers still spit on lush greenery by his mansion. As long as I'm supporting my family, my high-pressure, low water-volume nozzles will spit freely, too.
How Dare You Threaten the Car Wash Business! Really Conserve Water! Even Th
2007-10-17 19:19:00
Mike Easley asks North Carolinians to conserve water. I agree that we all need to do our part, but I must disagree with his notion that car washes are the problem. The hog plant uses 3 million gallons of water per day. Compare that to 14 gallons to wash a car. I wonder why their license was renewed and my business, threatened.

Water Conservation for New Homes
2007-02-27 15:03:06
As more and more homes and businesses are built in the Central Texas area, the supply of water is a huge concern of mine. The lakes and aquifers can only sustain us so long without extensive conservation. As water becomes more scarce, it will become more expensive. So what can we do? Or should the question be - what water can be re-used or recycled in a household? Utility and environmental regulators have agreed on a few principles to follow. First, “black water” is that water from a household that is so dirty it should not be considered for re-use. This is water from the toilets, of course, but it’s also water used to wash dishes, rinse food, and all the other stuff we do in the kitchen. Why is this black water? Because this water contains a lot of organic matter, bacteria, concentrated detergent residues, and oil and grease - stuff that does not break down quickly, get diluted, or otherwise behave well in a “water re-use” operation. “Gray water...
