My friend--Pat--and I had booked a mini bus trip to Pai a couple days before we had planned to leave. On Saturday morning, we left from the Old City in Chiang Mai and a three hour ride put us in Pai by 4 p.m. We decided to rent motorbikes during our stay so we could get around quickly (rental shops were easy to find and had affordable rates). After finding our mode of transportation we decided to find a comfortable place to stay for the night; and a row of bungalows along the Pai River suited us fine. A designer called Julius Popp has created the most amazing system which displays data and images into moving water, the video shows this waterfall imagery effect below, it is like a virtual billboard that appears to be hovering in mid-air. It's easy to get to - just turn east at the main junction in the center of Thalang town and you drive about 5km through rubber plantations. The two waterfalls have their source on the same mountain, Khao Phra Thaeo, which is Phuket's largest untouched area of forest and is officially designated as a National Park. Entry fee is 200 Baht, or free if you arrive after 3pm. We stopped for a look a couple of weeks ago after spending an afternoon at Layan Beach - I can't resist the lure of free entry!We just went for a quick look at the waterfall, get a bit of jungle air (it's very jungly round here) and a little bit of exercise.
