Review: Payback in Wayback
2008-05-20 11:02:00 Payback in Waybackby Lynda J. CokerAfter spending twelve years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, Corey Donovan is bent on getting a little payback. He’s headed for Wayback, Texas, the place where it all began. And who better to start with than the recently widowed Tiffany Covington. Tiffany Covington is both thrilled and afraid when she learns Corey Donovan has returned to Wayback. She’s ready to repay old debts, the question is...will Corey accept her currency of exchange? Lynda Coker puts the spurs to the romance in "Payback in Wayback," part of the 'Wayback Texas series.' Thirty-one year old Corey has a past he can't forget, a torment of loneliness he lives with, and a perfectionist's attitude that keeps him on the job long after the rest of the guys are enjoying home cooked meals. He finds solace in his music - he's a guitar player and singer at the local night club, Telli's - until the night the devil's daughter shows up at the foot of his stage.Tiffany is ...

GorillaSushi Wayback
2007-11-30 13:12:00 Every Friday I list a few gems from a year ago here on GorillaSushi but this Friday I've got something else to share. Ever checked out Archive.org's Wayback Machine? It's a usefull spot for referencing websites that no longer exist (like RobotFrank) and it's fun to see what some corporate sites looked like back in the 90's (like McDonalds) or just see some funny beginnings (like Wikipedia). But I just found that GorillaSushi has been indexed!! Check out the early days of GS - so young, so naive, so pastel. But back to one year ago... The Solution To All Problems The one where I propose a solution to all of the problems of mankind (and no one listened). Backyard Fusion Do you know the difference between fusion and fission? Do you know that you can make your own fusion reactor? The Dull Beige Tapestry of Boredom Links to the most boring blogs of lat year's Thanksgiving 4 day weekend. i have nothing to blog about since my life's just hit a poi...

Wayback Wednesday: Everything I Do
2007-02-14 21:57:02 For this special Valentine’s edition of Wayback Wednesday, there was only one song that I could feature: Bryan Adam’s Everything I Do, the love theme from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. That song — our song — gives me goosebumps every time I hear it and instantly transports me back to that most amazing of weeks back in 1991 when Karla and I first started dating. On our second date, we went to see Robin Hood at the Satellite Twin theater in Cowboy Mall in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I can remember it like it was yesterday. The next morning, I went out and bought two cassette copies of that song, giving one to Karla and keeping the other for myself. I must have listened to the song a thousand times in the days, weeks, months and years to follow. Even now as I write this, I’m on the seventh replay of this song. Every time, it gives me a rush of emotion, excitement and — well — “excitement” like nothing else in this world, except of course...

Wayback Wednesday: Hazy Shade of Winter
2007-01-31 15:30:06 As another blast of wintry weather descends upon Oklahoma, it certainly looks hazy and gray outside, which reminded me of one of my favorite 80s hits by the hot girls-band Bangles, A Hazy Shade of Winter. The song was featured in the movie Less Than Zero, starring Robert Downey, Jr. as a promising kid that spirals out of control with drug addiction, which turned out to be strangely prophetic for the actor. The Bangles version was a remake of the original 60s hit by Simon & Gafunkel, another of my favorite music groups.

Wayback Wednesday: Gloria
2007-01-24 21:15:02 Here’s a classic early 80s hit by Laura Branigan: The YouTuber who posted this video provided the following bit of information about the song: “Gloria” is a pop song released by Laura Branigan in 1982 off her debut album, Branigan. Originally a soft Italian love ballad, written by Umberto Tozzi and Giancarlo Bigazzi, the song’s first recording by Tozzi was a success in his home country in 1979. Working with producers Jack White and Greg Mathieson, Branigan gave the song what she called “an American kick,” transforming the gentle ode into a searing disco-rock track. With every element more dynamic and urgent, from increased tempo to sharpened instrumental hooks to the sassy sarcasm of new English lyrics by Trevor Veitch, Branigan’s gutsy belt drove the song to the top of the charts and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal of the year. Certified Platinum in the U.S., and remaining on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts for ...
