2007-09-11 18:32:00 The Weakerthans: Reunion TourReunion Tour is The Weakerthan's long-awaited follow up to 2003's Reconstruction Site. Much like that album and their two previous efforts, the new album is a mixed bag. All the musical and thematic staples of The Weakerthans' history are back... John's signature mopey vocals, references to hockey, Winnipeg and other cornerstones of Canadian pop culture, and even the return of Virtue the Cat, in a song that sequelizes Reconstruction's far-superior "Plea from a cat named Virtue." There's some great material on this album, but for ever great tune there's another that clocks in somewhere between mediocre ["Hymn For the Medical Oddity"] and downright bad [the pretentious, near-unlistenable spoken word "Elegy For Gump Worsley"]. Fans of the band's previous releases will probably dig the album, especially the first track "Civil Twilight," which picks up right where Reconstruction Site leaves off, but I can't see Reunion Tour being an album for any...
