Weekend Update
2008-08-18 14:01:00
I know that it's Monday morning as I write/post this, but I couldn't think of another title for the post. Anyway, this was the first weekend that I had absolutely nothing scheduled. Can you believe that? Probably for the entire summer, I've had something on the calendar whether it be related to Boards, Podcamp Ohio, meetings, soccer, etc. Don't get me wrong, I was glad to do all that stuff - except maybe for Boards. It was just great not to do anything for an entire weekend.Other than Twitter, I was completely unplugged from the internet (kind of). I was considering actually writing a blog post or two. But, that didn't happen. I've been a slacker when it comes to writing blog posts lately - especially when it comes to submitting something for Grand Rounds. I've been in a GR slump for the past few months and I really want to get back and start writing again - it's just tough.Other than watching a bunch of olympics coverage, I really didn't do much other than catch up on thin...
Weekend Update - Connie Francis, Gloria Estefan, Paul Weller, more
2008-06-02 05:05:00
In a recent interview, Connie Francis said that Gloria Estefan may be playing her in a biopic."I saw her say she wanted to play me on TV, so we had lunch and hit it off. We're hoping to film it by the end of the year. I've worked for several years on the script. It's so difficult to know what to know what to leave in and leave out."Paul Weller, ex of the Jam, told BBC6 that he isn't fond of the new trend of groups giving away their music. ?I?m not having it. It lessens the art, cheapens the art. Why shouldn?t an artist be paid for the work he?s doing? It?s not for free.? He added that he'd ?like to charge people double the price? for his records.Neil Young has another new pursuit. He's working with Wichita mechanic Jonathan Goodwin to convert a 1959 Lincoln Continental to straight battery power.Young told the Wichita Eagle, "Johnathan and this car are going to make history. We're going to change the world; we're going to create a car that will allow us to stop giving our ...
holiday weekend update
2008-05-27 18:06:00
We had a great weekend! Well, other than yesterday because I was sick with some sort of stomach bug. Friday was good. My husband and I went out to dinner at Red Lobster and then went to see the new Indiana Jones movie which was fantastic. Saturday we picked up the kids around noon and headed to Saginaw to spend most of the weekend at my father-in-law's house. We had a fabulous time. The kids were covered in sunblock, but my husband and I are a bit red. It's better than being whiter than white though. I wish I hadn't been sick yesterday, but at least it's over. I feel better today. Still a little weak, but better.
Weekend Update - Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross & the Supreme
2008-05-05 01:24:00
The brand new New Jersey Hall of fame inducted its first fifteen members and among those chosen are Bruce Springsteen and Frank Sinatra. They are joining the likes of Albert Einstein, Toni Morrison, Clara Barton, Vince Lombardi and Yogi Berra.Chuck Leavell, keyboard player for the Rolling Stones, was given an honorary Doctorate of Music by the Central Michigan University on Saturday. He told the students that "The pursuit of excellence can take you to the Super Bowl or the Hollywood Bowl, if you're committed. If you keep these principles in life, no matter what you've chosen to do, you will be successful."Leavell also offered up the gem, "What's the difference between a musician and a municipal bond? A municipal bond matures and makes money."The Victoria and Albert Museum in London will be mounting an exhibit with over fifty costumes worn during performances by Diana Ross and the Supremes. The collection comes from ex-member Mary Wilson and includes a gown worn when the gro...

Weekend Update
2008-04-14 06:01:00
A quick summary of my weekend (especially Sunday) is seen above in this video post. I make reference to "Me Today" which is a group of videos on this site. Ever get a song stuck in your head? Well, that happened to me when I saw this video post by iJustine. Then, I went to a meetup meeting for the PodCampOhio event that will take place on June 28th. (See my promo for the event here.) Close to the end of the meeting, things got a little crazy with Brandice, Joe, Matt, and Angelo. (The theme was "Show us the stickers on your laptop." Notice the two other people shooting at the same time that I was - hehe) Finally, to finish the weekend, I went back to the office to try to clear off as much as my desk as I can to start the week fresh. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Weekend Update - Paul McCartney, Blue Notes, Billy Fury
2008-04-14 02:20:00
Rumors say that Paul McCartney is in talks for a massive world tour of the U.K., the United States, Canada and Australia. Most likely kickoff would be in the fall. Word has it that announcements of dates could come as soon as May.A family friend said, "Paul's made happy by his family and music. He sees this as a kind of celebration that the messy episode with Heather is over."Hank Williams, Sr., the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Merle Kilgore, Steven Curtis Chapman, Kirk Whalum and Steve Warnier will be the fourth class of artists added to Nashville's Walk of Fame. The walk, on Nashville's Music Mile, is sponsored by Gibson Guitar.Lawrence Lloyd Brown, Sr. of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes passed away last Sunday (April 6) at the age of 63.Lawrence was one of the original members of the group, which formed in 1957 as the Bingos. Ryan and Adam confirmed it would be best for them to keep Sharon and evict Joshuah. Weekend Update

I thought I’d take a few minutes before heading out for a long trail-walk with The Girls (it’s a long weekend over here, and they’re thrilled to have us both at home–ALL DAY!!) to post a few newsy notes.  So, if you drop in only for the recipes or the witty repartee (I suppose that since I don’t hear your replies, it’s actually just “partee”), then you may wish to skip this entry and wait for the next.  But if you do, you might just miss something important. . . not that I’m saying you should stay, or anything. . . it’s entirely up to you. . .   News Bit Number One: For those of you who may have missed it or don’t look for such things, I recently added a Recipe Index (under “Pages,” at right).  I’ve categorized according to general food types, but if I’ve missed one you want to see, please let me know.  I must say that I was quite surprised at the number of gluten free options in the list...
Weekend Update in the Big Brother house
2008-03-03 04:02:00
Lots going on in the Big Brother house this weekend as usual---here are the highlights:Spoilers Ahead:*************************-***********************BB9 Joshuah and Allison continued their fued. It's been a roller coaster weekend for those two.The veto competition was played ---winners of the veto were Matt and Natalie. The big brother 9 houseguests received a letter from Big Brother about a new twist. The note said, ?sometime in the coming weeks you will hear the distinct sound over the PAsystem. When you hear this sound you will need togather immediately here in the living room and follow the instructions given. The sound could happen at any moment ---Expect the unexpected?BB9 Natalie and Joshuah went around with the bible and blessed the house after learning of the new twist--hoping to get rid of and keep out the evil out of the house. (their words)Speculation is high in the house about the new twist---with many fearing evicted houseguests will be returning.BB9 Allison crawled in...

Weekend Update
2008-02-24 09:18:00
Maybe I'll try to do this every weekend, that is, write a post of all the little things I have to say that dont need a seperate post all to themselves.   I'm in Vegas right now, going to go to bed soon.  I had to come here to get a marriage license, since Amy and I are getting married here in three weeks.  Let me tell you, going to the marriage license office in downtown Las Vegas is quite the experience.  They have it down to an art.  I cant imagine why, I mean, who really gets married in Vegas anyways?  Ya right.  So as we walk in we are handed two pamphlets of chapels that are just a block away in case we need a place to go to get this done quick.  Then we go in and I guarantee they have at least triple the number of employees of any other office like it because of the high volume of couples that come through.  The line is almost out the door with couples.  Even with that, it didnt take long at all because they are so efficient.  Some couples were all dressed and ready to go.  ...
Weekend Update: Cool Huckabee Videos
2008-02-10 02:51:00
I know that we here at Two Institutions have posted much about politics of late. Now while this blog is in no way intended to be political in nature, we do feel an obligation to inform and at times entertain. And so I put the question, what could be more entertaining than politics? Its the season; so indulge me and yourself by enjoying these videos about Governor Mike Huckabee. This first one, is just plain cute and witty! This second one makes a great parallel between Gov. Huckabee and the NY Giants! And finally, this video well, its just plain inspiring!Have a great weekend and a blessed Lord's Day!

Staying up late when the toddler is in an early phase is not recommended. I’m exhausted tonight!  I took a few days off from journaling and I was doing really well until tonight when I splurged on some baked Doritos and Fudge Stripe Cookies. :~( This weekend I spent a ton of time in the kitchen.  I posted another video, baked some cookies, and made sauce.  I also made it to the gym, weighed

Weekend Update - New York Yankees
2007-11-12 15:33:00
What are the Yankees going to do as free agency officially opens on Tuesday?  This weekend's speculation by Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports the Yanks are a little sour on Miguel Tejada because "Yankees officials privately are not excited, partly because they don't even know if Tejada can make the transition from short to third," and that the Yanks are not thrilled about adding White Sox 3B Joe Crede and his career OBP of 305.  Mr. Sherman offers up Cardinals' 3B Scott Rolen as a good fit - obtainable and recently successful.  To me, that seems reasonable, too. Specifically about their previous 3B, Alex Rodriguez, Saturday's papers quoted Joe Torre in response to a question about whether his new team is interested.  He said, "It's possible, possible, possible."  I'd agree given the Dodgers select 15th in draft and would not lose their 1st round pick!  This seems to be a great situation  given the team gets a player it needs while ret...

Weekend Update
2007-11-04 23:24:00
I have to admit that my blogging has been a little sparse lately. Work was been tremendously busy for the past couple of weeks. Weekends have been devoted to catching up on sleep and doing what I need to do around the place (like laundry - are clean clothes at work important?). I guess I have been devoting a little more free time to the internet radio show - which has been going very well (I think). This radio show thing is a lot of fun. I had no idea how much until I started doing it. I really appreciate all the people who have been listening in, sending e-mail, and leaving comments. Let's see how far I can take this....I'm also very excited that I'm going to be hosting Grand Rounds in about 10 days. I remember from last year how busy this week is going to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to it. It's just that getting everything done this week is going to be tricky. That whole time management thing is going to be challenged. Finally, at the end of this week, ...

I'm not sure why but this story just popped into my head. Last year during winter when it was cold and snowy I was inside a building talking to my sister on the phone. Bella (her dog) was near her so we decided to see if she would listen to me through the phone when I told her to sit. I started saying "sit bella" a few times. This guy walked in the doors I was standing near and gave me the strangest look. After he was a good distance away I started laughing and told my sister about it. We had a good laugh about that.***Salt and Vinegar chips are awesome!***What I did this weekend:Read psychology book.Study Latin.***What I still need to do:Email Justin.Email my mom.Email my advisor.Read environment book.Write philosophy paper about obesity.Drink more water.
Weekend Update: Riding The Coat-tails Of Frodo and Harry
2007-11-03 21:39:00
It's that time of year again. The supermarkets are filling their aisles with stands for fruitcake ingredients. Shopping malls are interviewing male retirees with white beards and jolly dispositions, and Hollywood is distributing several silver screen gems to get you to part with your entertainment dollar. Here at Two Institutions, we like to be out front giving you a heads-up on what to expect before you pack-up the family and head to the discount matinee.Due out in December is a film billed as a "narniaesque" children's adventure entitled "The Golden Compass". It is based on a series of children's books written by Phillip Pullman who was described by New Yorker journalist Laura Miller as "one of England's most outspoken atheists." The film has already garnered criticism from our Catholic allies in the culture war. Bill Donahue, president of the watchdog group The Catholic League has produced a video entitled "The Golden Compass Agenda Unmasked" which can be found at their webs...

Friday night?s Harvest Fest at Allison?s school was a big hit again this year. We sold a ton of pizza and cupcakes! I think it was some where around 9:30pm when we finally got home from helping with the clean up. My feet were so tired. I signed up for a one hour shift and ended up working four hours. Not that I minded, it was a lot of fun, just tiring at the end of the night. Two of the other moms that were suppose to help behind the pizza table walked in, looked around and said ?well, I see you have enough help? and pretty much ran away and disappeared in to the party with their kids. I just don?t get that. Why sign up to help out at your kids school and not follow through. But it all worked out, I guess. Last evening Bethany and I went to her aunts baby shower/ cocktail party. It was a lot of fun. I got to visit and catch up with a lot of women in her family that I haven?t seen in years. It was a good size group and a lot of laughing. I bet the ladies downed a good couple cases ...

It's been a fantastic weekend. Lots of hanging out with the family and watching movies yesterday. We watched Spiderman 3 and License to Wed last night. Spiderman 3 was better than the first two by far. License to Wed was pretty cute and during one part Jeremy and I were laughing so hard that we had tears in our eyes. I don't know if it's because we were up way past our usual bedtime and were a little slap-happy or what. Robin Williams is awesome though. I like just about anything that has him in it. Today we spent the day with even more family. My sister, brother-in-law, both nieces and great-niece came over for the day. My husband and brother-in-law worked on putting the new doors on the bedrooms while the girls (and Evan) hung out. We took the kids to get more Webkinz - which is a ridiculous fad for children these days. If you don't know what they are - they are stuffed animals that have a code on their collar and the kids use the code to log into the Webkinz site, which is ...
Weekend Update: Huckabee Gaining Ground
2007-10-27 17:55:00
Let me be clear that the authors of this blog are in no way endorsing any candidate for president...yet, but there is one who has been getting our attention lately. Gov. Mike Huckabee has certainly made it clear where he stands on moral issues such as the sanctity of life, and marriage. He is gaining ground despite the lack of commitment he has received from the people who share his values. Here for your consideration is a video and an article from Townhall.com by noted conservative columnist Michael Medved that can be found here. Many are squawking that Huckabee is a long-shot who is underfunded and unelectable. My response: Me thinks thou dost protest too much.

Weekend Update
2007-10-01 07:40:00
My weekend wound up pretty good, but started off kind of crummy. My brother-in-law called my husband (his twin) on Friday afternoon and said he needed help moving. First of all, this brother ALWAYS blows us off. Second, how about a little notice? So, my husband had a golf game Saturday morning, and then picked up boxes from his work and drove to his brothers (3 hrs. away.) Meanwhile, the baby and I are at home/park/home/park/WalMart or Albersons/home as usual. Everyday is the same. Wonderful and fun because my son is a joy, but the same. We look forward to our short weekend with my husband all week, and he didn’t get home until 4pm on Sunday. Sad sad sad. Also, his brother had been steadily giving all of their deceased grandfather’s belongings away, even though my husband had asked him not to. DH came home very sad after having argued with his brother all weekend about why he wanted to keep some things of his grandfather’s. Yeesh. On the plus side, my son can iden...

Weekend Update: Chastity Making A Comeback
2007-09-23 01:37:00
"Grant me chastity and continence, but not yet"- Augustine of HippoThese word were uttered by Augustine before he laid aside his sinful lifestyle to become one of the greatest theologians in church history. Now over 1600 years after his honest confession, Chastity is making a comeback in theory and in practice. This can be largely credited to a witty, agnostic turned Christian author Ms. Dawn Eden. Her eye catching missive is entitled, "The Thrill Of The Chaste" and is sparking all kinds of conversation on college campuses and coffee houses all across the country. I found out about her when she made an appearance on Dr. Al Mohler's radio show which can be found by clicking on this link: Recovering Our Vocabulary: The Language of Chastity. I haven't read her book yet but it is in my queue. I will give a full review when I finish (which will probably be a couple of weeks). In the mean-time, I will keep you posted on her success.

Weekend Update: It's Football Time Again!
2007-09-01 16:48:00
I hope that I don't alienate any of our readership by dedicating this post to the last, real, only American sport: College Football. Think about it. Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, Golf and a myriad of other sports are played professionally and privately around the globe. Even football is played professionally in Europe. College football, however, remains the last great American sport. Now if you know anything about college football, you know that top to bottom the SEC is the dominant football conference. If USC or Ohio State had to play the schedules that most SEC teams have to play they would be lucky in some years to even see the post-season. My team however is not a member of the SEC. I am an NC State fan which is in the ACC. Granted we have a long way to go to match the level of competition in the SEC but we are making great strides. I am optimistic with improved play by teams like Virginia Tech, Miami, and Florida State that the luster that wore-off last season might come back j...

Weekend Update: The Consumer Credit Treadmill
2007-08-04 20:22:00
This weekend, many couples are sitting down in front of a pile of bills trying to figure out how to make minimum payments. According to a story published by Bankrate.com, around a quarter of all Americans worry about how to pay off credit card debt. Unfortunately the percentage is not any better among Christian households. The fact of the matter is that many people go into debt for things that they could just as easily do without. The mental image of having something or being entitled to something drives us to max-out credit cards and make minimum payments hoping that we can eventually pay them off. What we really need is a greater dependence on the Lord and a little self-discipline neither of which can be bought with plastic. If you are one of those people who are facing a mound of debt take some time this weekend to stop the worry, spend some time recommitting yourself to depending on the Lord, and get some free help from some of the following wonderful resources:www.daveramsey.comw..-.
