By taking little steps towards your goal, you may achieve results much faster than you think. By staring t with little or baby steps and you might surprise yourself at what a difference it can make in losing weight. In order to lose weight, the body needs to speed up its metabolism. Weigh In Friday!
2008-06-06 15:38:00
Quite frankly, lately I have been up and down about weighing in but this week I kicked some ass!  I lost 3.4 pounds I could have even lost more by now because I weighed in early, because you know, I just felt… lighter, lol.  I wish I could say that it was all that exercise but nope - it was better food choices.  I really made a very conscious effort to watch everything I ate.  I worked very hard at my portion control and not snacking mindlessly.  I did walk 2 days but it wasn’t anything to write home about… about 30 minutes each time.  But I felt good that I made that effort as well as constantly checking my food intake.  I ate home this week all except one day which I’m sure made a huge difference as well.  My water intake is something to be desired though - normally I’m a 6 bottle a day water drinker but I admit to doing something I haven’t done regularly in 3 years plus… I bought a bottle of soda this week, and I drank it...

IT Workers Weigh In on Health Habits
2008-05-27 12:56:00
Slashdot It!Feeling a little, shall we say, sluggish lately? You might be among the vast ranks of IT workers who have put on some extra heft while sitting at their desks.A study by CareerBuilder.com found that half of U.S. IT workers have gained weight at their current jobs. The study, which polled nearly 7,700 participants from Feb. 11 through March 13, found that 34 percent of IT workers report they have gained more than 10 pounds in their current positions. Even more alarming, 17 percent say they have put on more than 20 pounds!Who knew managed services could be hazardous to your health? While the study doesn't specify anything about workers monitoring customer systems remotely, come on, you've got to admit that keeping an eye on a customer's systems from miles away by staring at computer screens surely produces far less sweat than even the minimal amount of walking to and from the truck a technician drives to a customer site for troubleshooting. But let's not get crazy. The c...

Baseball Blogs Weigh In: 2008 Amateur Draft
2008-05-23 14:59:00
With last year's top pick, David Price, making his pro debut yesterday, we are now two weeks from the 2008 "Rule 4 Draft" and the top of the draft is not as clear this time around. There are five candidates that could go in the top slot: Buster Posey, the FSU catcher; Vanderbilt's third baseman Pedro Alvarez; San Diego lefty Brian Matusz; Southern California high school catcher Kyle Skipworth, and Georgia high school shortstop Tim Beckham. Earlier this week we heard that the Rays were leaning towards Posey or Alvarez, while the Pirates were said to be torn between Alvarez and Beckham with the second pick. Recent mock drafts from Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo, have Beckham going to the Rays with the top pick. Let's take a look at what is being said about the upcoming draft in the Blogosphere... Minor League Ball ranks the top 30 prospects, with Posey and Beckham at the top of the board, while Alvarez' injury knocks him down to #8. Baseball Mastermind would like to see a push for a...
The Big Weigh In!
2008-05-22 06:07:00
Ok, if you read my Scale Habits post you know it's been a LONG time since weighing in. Well today was the BIG day. How did I do without looking at the scale for 6 WEEKS?!? I didn't even track points and I only journaled my food a few days here and there. Well, I am happy to report I was down .8!! Which is a perfect maintenance number. I'm still a few pounds up from where I want to be but I am ecstatic! I feel as if I can trust myself a little more now. I do not have to be a slave to the scale to maintain my weight. Now I want to kick it up a notch and loose these 4 pounds! So I have FINALLY updated my Weight Progress page. However, I hit a snag with the new MAC. I don't have Excel and my weight charts aren't translating well in my Office knock off software. So the table is updated but the charts aren't. I may have to figure out a new system. On top of that, (I'm just having technical difficulties all day today!) I was going to post my food journal but I lost it. Seriou...

Jonas Brothers Weigh In On 'American Idol' David Vs. David Finale: 'I'm Tor
2008-05-20 17:45:00
Brothers, who will perform on 'Idol' Wednesday night, also have summer tour, new album and 'secret' video lined up.By John Norris The Jonas Brothers Photo: MTV News The stage is set for the ultimate battle: the "American Idol" finale. And nothing but nothing will detract from Davids Archuleta and Cook on Wednesday night. Nothing, except, perhaps, a three-minute period during which the screams of a nation will be directed not at David or David, but at Kevin, Joe and Nick — the Jonas Brothers — who will perform their hit "S.O.S." on one of the most-watched TV events of the year. As excited as tween America was to get that news, when we caught up with the Jonases backstage at radio station Z-100's Zootopia concert in New Jersey on Saturday night, they said that they too can hardly believe they will be taking the "Idol" stage. "It's crazy," Joe said, with younger brother Nick adding, "When we heard, we were freaking out. We were in the studio, actually, work...
Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Braun, Holliday, Kouzmanoff, Greene, Sabean
2008-05-16 16:09:00
Let's take a look at what is being said about some recent rumors, trades and signings in the Blogosphere... Right Field Bleachers sees the signing of Ryan Braun and Corey Hart to long-term deals as a "must" for the Brewers. Brewers Nation sees the Braun deal as evidence that Prince Fielder will not sign an extension even if the two situations are very different. Oleanders and Morning Glories thinks that if Nats' management was hoping to sign Ryan Zimmerman to a Troy Tulowitzki-type deal, Braun's deal may have raised the bar. Squawking Baseball sees the recent trend in giving long-term deals to young stars and wonders if the absence of top-level free agents in a few years will drive up free agency prices. If that happens, players may stop signing these extensions and the market will correct itself...The point is valid, but these players will still become free agents eventually. The difference is only that they will be free agents in their age 30 season (approximately) instead of t...

Weigh-In Day!
2008-05-09 20:26:00
It’s Friday and quite frankly I am very excited!  I woke up feeling “thinner” LOL.  Do you ever have those days that you just wake up knowing that you have lost weight?  Somehow you feel less bloated and you just KNOW your clothes are going to fit well?  I just love those days.  In fact, I was so excited that I waited until I started writing this post to go and weight myself, so if you will hold on just one second I will go do that right this second… Okay, well not as much as I had hoped - but not bad!  1.2 pounds down.  Better than nothing And also better than the gain I thought I would have earlier in the week when I was eating myself out of house and home.  This week I was having a hard time again.  I think it is because we didn’t have that many groceries in the house and I kept finding reasons not to go grocery shopping which for me only means one thing - eating out!  I was always just “too busy” but yesterday I...
Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Wells, Griffey, Olney, Tavarez, Edmonds
2008-05-09 16:08:00
A lot of links today, so let's get to what is being said about some trade and signing possibilities in the Blogosphere... The Darth Boss George Brigade wants Hank Steinbrenner to sign David Wells to prove that Hank is indeed his father's son. River Ave. Blues says the Yankees are too smart to sign Wells and then goes on to list about 87 pitchers that should be given a shot in the Highlanders' rotation before Wells. Redlegs Rant feels that Ken Griffey Jr. is behind the recent stories that speculate on him being traded. Mariners Central speculates on some of the names that it might take to land Ken Griffey Jr., noting that the M's are not likely to part with either of their top two prospects, Wladimir Balentien and Jeff Clement. The Tribe Time Report sees plenty of holes in Buster Olney's recent theory that Garret Atkins would be a good fit for the Indians. Brewers Nation agrees with Olney that the Brewers should trade Ben Sheets. Sox & Pinstripes doesn't want to just give a...

WVU Faculty to Weigh In on DaughterGate (Updated)
2008-05-05 19:44:00
The Associated Press sets the stage for today's meeting of WVU's Faculty Senate and its consideration of resolutions responding to the DaughterGate scandal. But AP also reports that even if faculty vote no confidence in President Mike Garrison, "it's unclear whether it will be anything more than symbolic. Garrison has repeatedly said he won't resign, and he has powerful backers in his corner, including Gov. Joe Manchin and WVU Board of Governors members he appointed."MetroNews also previews the day's possible actions, as does The Daily Athenaeum. WVU's student-run newspaper also reports that "four West Virginia University head athletics coaches spoke out in support" of Garrison over the weekend.(Update: the Charleston Daily Mail is among those focusing on the timing and handling of the endorsements.)The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette took a step back in a Sunday story that offers the recent report on DaughterGate as "a detailed, inside look at how far officials were willing to go for ...

Weigh In Day!
2008-05-02 21:04:00
I’m not going into a long huge story about how I didn’t lose weight this week.  I have failed you all :( Quite frankly I feel like a loser.  Somehow I managed to gain 2.2 pounds.  I completely was off my game this week.  No exercise except for 2 days, no motivation to skip those onion rings at Red Robin even though I got a petite burger and a side salad with fat free dressing.  I had no ability to make sure I ate my healthy snacks so that I wasn’t completely starving by dinnertime.  This whole week was a complete waste of time for my diet.  But that’s okay… as we will always tell you all the time - tomorrow is a new day!  What about you all?  How did you do this week? But I am excited about something.  Yesterday my Puritan’s Pride package arrived!  For all of you that are unfamiliar with it, Puritan’s Pride is a popular all natural vitamin site that sells pretty much every all natural product available… As ...

Weigh-In: A Reality-Check -- Time To Pay The Piper. ;-)
2008-04-29 21:54:00
Well, it looks like my eating has not only caught up to my running, but has in fact now surpassed it! Looks like it's brass tacks time for little ole' moi. ;-)I weighed myself today to find that I'd gained a shocking amount of weight over the last few months. Those "few" pounds I'd gained had morphed into a few more, & then a few more, until I gained a total of... Dare I say it here -- Well, I'm just too darned ashamed to put the actual number down here.Regarding my weight & BF%, I'm not going to mince words or skirt around the obvious: I've backtracked significantly over the last few months. It's seems that all of that sitting around has caught up to me. Two easy interval training runs a week just doesn't cut it, when you eat like I've been eating over the past few (i.e., 2-3) months. ;-)I'm not going to get dramatic on you or exaggerate or make excuses. All I will say as an explanation is that things have been fairly rough for me on other fronts, in terms o...

Friday Weigh-In
2008-04-25 20:03:00
Happy Friday everyone!  Wave your hands if you are excited about weighing in today!! *crickets chirping* Hmmm… I see no one is waving… why is that?  Lately the people who are weighing in are getting fewer and fewer but our readership is getting larger.  Why is that?  Are you not weighing in because you are “off track?” That is even more of a reason to weigh in!  We can’t help you if you don’t let us For me personally, I am NOT excited about weighing in today.  I went to a girls night in last night, and OMG, I filled up on nothing more than beer and those damn chocolate chip cookies my friend Karyn so nicely laid out for us.  Well, I did dip into the fruit salad, but not nearly as much as the Queso dip!  But that’s okay, I’m going to let myself be hugely bloated for a day and then weigh-in tomorrow.  I can’t possibly get the right reading after I had 8 beers - 8!  I couldn’t believe it myself.  Th...
Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Johnson, Bonds, Piazza
2008-04-25 16:52:00
So far during the 2008 regular season, 28 players have either been DFA'd or released. At the same point last year, that list only included 14 players. In the past four seasons, only 2006 (22) had more than 14 players DFA'd or released this early in the season. This will be an interesting trend to watch the rest of this season and into the early portion of 2009. It appears to be an indication that teams are showing less patience to work trades for fringe players or teams may be placing higher premiums on prospects, unwilling to move even mid-level prospects for a guy that might be the 24th or 25th man on a 25-man roster. Either way, it could mean fewer trades in 2008 and beyond. The list of players DFA'd so far this year includes some that have been productive Major Leaguers at some point in their career and could be again, including Kirk Saarloos, Juan Castro, Dan Johnson and Hideo Nomo. OK, maybe Nomo is a stretch. With players like this being made available it is even more reas...

Baseball Blogs Weigh In: The Longoria Deal
2008-04-19 18:11:00
Yesterday, the Tampa Bay Rays announced a historic long-term deal with their rookie-of-the-year candidate, Evan Longoria. If all the options are picked up and bonuses earned, the Dirtbag from Long Beach State will earn $44.5MM over the next 9 years. Some have noted that the Rays are following the blueprint of the Indians from the 90s, by locking up their young talent long-term. However, this move is unprecedented for a player so early in his career, as last night marked only his 7th game as a major leaguer. Buster Olney notes that this deal is not surprising as teams are even starting to consider giving star college players 10-year deals when they are drafted. While there is certainly risk with the deal, historically the risk is minimal for top position prospects. Fred Claire notes that long-term deals are now the norm, but that these deals are being reserved for players with impeccable character traits. Lets take a look at what is being written about this contract in the Blogosph...
