Conan-Max Weinberg?s Japanese Beer Ad
2007-09-01 13:57:00 Drummer Max Weinberg was on Late Night talking with Conan O’Brien about his Miller Chill promotional Japanese commercial. In the commercial, Max, who is constantly surrounded by beautiful Asian women, takes out a dinosaur by spraying it with beer among other wacky things. The thing that really caught my attention were the large computer generated ...
?Star Wars: The Clone Wars? ? The Trailer for the New Series
2007-05-28 14:31:00 Filed under: Action & Adventure, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and SequelsIf you're a Star Wars fan and you haven't seen Genndy Tartakovsky's collection of Clone Wars animated shorts, you're missing out on some pretty slick stuff. (All 25 episodes are available on two DVDs.) Ever since Revenge of the Sith hit the screens, we've been hearing from George Lucas that The Clone Wars will soon make the leap into full-length TV adventures. (And by full-length I mean longer than five minutes apiece.) Unfortunately it looks like Mr. Tartakovsky is not involved with the newest Clone Wars series, but here's some good news: You can check out a promotional trailer for the program right here. It's a pretty slick little promo piece, jammed as it is with flashy spaceships, colorful characters, frequent mayhem and a few familiar faces. The IMDb confirms a few familiar voices, too: Frank Oz (Yoda), Anthony Daniels (C-3P0) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous) will be rep...
Robert Downey Compares Working with David Fincher to a Gulag
2007-05-19 20:31:00 Filed under: Drama, Thrillers"Gulag" is another word for "prison" or "labor camp," so when Robert Downey Jr. compares working for David Fincher to a "gulag," it's probably not a compliment. Then again, Mr. Downey is known for saying lots of things with a wink and a grin, so I don't think Mr. Fincher should take it all that personally. I mean, the director IS known for demanding 20, 40 and sometimes 60 takes from his actors -- but on the other (much more important) hand, Downey was really excellent in Zodiac ... so perhaps there's a method to Fincher's madness after all. ("Gulag" is also a pretty good 1985 HBO movie starring David Keith and Malcolm McDowell. Just sayin.')Downey says he's the perfect type of actor to work for Fincher "because I understand gulags." And if you scan through this rather solid interview over at the Australian Herald Sun, you'll see precisely how demanding David Fincher can be. Speaking only as a movie nerd, I say this: If Fincher being a meticulous,...
Oh the Hypocrisy: ?Hatchet? Gets an NC-17
2007-05-13 23:31:00 Filed under: HorrorYou gotta be kidding me. Looks like the MPAA ratings board has saddled the indie horror flick Hatchet with an NC-17 rating for graphic violence. While Lionsgate, Universal, Sony and the Weinsteins get consistent "breaks" on their gory fare, the little guy now has to contend with the blatant hypocrisy of the schizophrenic ratings board. (I guarantee that if Hatchet had been a Paramount pick-up, instead of it belonging to Starz / Anchor Bay, it wouldn't have to deal with this crap.) What this means is that director Adam Green must slice out some of the splat and then re-submit the film to a panel of frigid finger-waggers who wouldn't understand the tone of Hatchet even if you bought 'em the Friday the 13th box set for Christmas. And I'm not just railing against the ratings board out of ignorance. I've already seen Hatchet, and I've also seen "R rated" fare like Grindhouse, 28 Weeks Later, Turistas, Hostel, Saw 3, The Hitcher and The Hills Have Eyes 2. And if th...
