Coke: good for wellbeing and vitality
2008-03-10 18:09:00 We've had an 'Occupational Health and Safety Wellbeing and Vitality Day' at work today. Catchy title, huh? Perhaps they should have just called it OHAS WAVD.Among the attractions were free bottles of Diet Coke and Coke Zero (pictured right, with model), and a prize draw to win a hamper containing a big slab of chocolate. Mmm, healthy. On the plus side, I had my blood pressure tested and it was found to be normal. That's got to be a first for a sub editor...

The Effects of Debt on Mental Wellbeing
2008-03-08 03:34:00 The Effects of Debt on Mental WellbeingBy: Martin Sumner Getting into debt is almost a way of life for most people these days. Where once being indebted was a situation to be avoided if at all possible, and even looked on as being somehow slightly shameful, nowadays we usually think nothing of getting our credit cards out or dipping into an overdraft. For the majority of people, this does not present too much of a problem in their daily lives, as their debts are easily serviceable even if undesirable. For others, though, debt can become a real problem - both in financial terms, but also in respect of mental and emotional wellbeing. One of the first mental manifestations of debt problems is that of a degree of insomnia. Lying awake at night, worrying about missed payments and budget problems will be a very familiar scenario for anyone who's struggled with debt. This nocturnal anxiety can soon spread out to the rest of the sufferer's day, especially as the effects of tir...

The Big Cat Hand Glove Sans Claws Promotes Wellbeing, Apparently
2008-01-03 23:15:00 Whilst we can, of course, fully appreciate that anything that serves to infuse us with a sense of glorious wellbeing is not necessarily a bad thing, per se, we do wonder whether this Big Cat Hand Glove is, perhaps, taking things just a little too far.

Weekly Wellbeing - The Parato Principle...
2007-11-12 22:21:00 ...better known as the 80-20 rule, is based on the fact that 80% of what we achieve well is from 20% of what we do. This principle is more commonly applied to business efficiency but can be applied just as easily to any aspect of our day to day lives. Successful people achieve more by concentrating on the 20% that matters. This means that we can eradicate up to 80% of activity during our daily

Video - Exideal LED Gadget Promotes Wellbeing via Lightshow
2007-10-21 13:03:00 According to the manufactures of the Exideal, displaying a series of coloured patterns via a screen composing of 280 LEDs, whilst looking like a bizarre animated homage to particularly awful wallpaper of bygone eras, actually has health benefits and can even ?permeate the vitamins and collagen in your skin? thus making you ?beautiful from the inside? ? a claim which strikes us as being, at best, seemingly rather fanciful.

Thai Massage - For Healing & Wellbeing
2007-09-24 12:26:00 By : Kelly PriceThai Massage is one of the world's oldest healing modalities and originates from the time of the Buddha over 2500 years ago. Introduced to Thailand by an Indian doctor, ?Nuad Phaen Boran? as is it known in Thailand, correctly translates as Ancient Massage or Traditional Massage. Here it is more widely known as Thai Massage. Thai Massage is considered an ancient art of body therapy for health, healing, and transformation. The History of Thai Massage Thai massage has been performed for centuries by monks in Southeast Asia as one element of indigenous Thai medicine. As with much of traditional oriental medicine, illness is seen as an imbalance of the mind, body and spirit or ?chi?. Thai massage is based on the concept of invisible energy lines running through the body. These energy lines known as ?Prana Nadis? supply us with vital energy. ?Prana? (life energy) is absorbed with the air we breathe and with the food we eat. Disturbances in the flow of energy result ...

CIPD survey shows more organisations are using wellbeing programmes to mana
2007-07-16 17:07:00 The proportion of organisations now focusing on employee wellbeing as a means of tackling sickness absence has soared over the past year, according to research by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). The CIPD annual absence management survey of more than 800 organisations revealed that 42% of organisations had implemented a wellbeing strategy, compared to just 26% the previous year. The strategy has been prompted by an increase in the average annual level of absence, which climbed to 8.4 days per employee a year, from eight days the previous year. The survey findings indicate that 60% of organisations in the public sector now have a wellbeing strategy, compared to 42% last year. The private sector has also seen a rise ? up to 37% from 22% the previous year. On average, organisations spend 5.4% of their paybill on employee wellbeing benefits, and 42% of organisations indicated this will increase further during 2008. Ben Willmott, CIPD employee...
