The Tarnishing of the F A Cup
2008-03-09 21:25:00 For the uninformed the F. A. Cup is the equivalent of the Super Bowl in the States, a very prestigious honour. The first game was in the 1871-2 season; the Wanderers won, beating a team from the Royal Engineers 1-0. In 1923 Wembley Stadium was completed as the showcase of English football, and to celebrate the occasion Bolton beat West Ham 2-0. Since Wembley was destroyed, (and rebuilt to host this year's Cup final) and the final played at other locations there seems to have a insignificance given to this oldest of competitions. I believe the glory years are gone from the F.A. Cup, which is unfortunate as it is truly the only significant English competition left.Managers do not seem to appreciate the history of the cup, and now we find them using it, as they do the Football League Cup, to field experimental weaker teams. (The League Cup is a competition limited to teams just within the four professional leagues of England, 72 teams, while the F A Cup's initial rounds are also ope...

Foo Fighters To Play Wembley Stadium
2007-11-21 17:33:00 Foo Fighters are set to play Wembley stadium next year on June 7. The plan at the moment is to have the gig broadcast live on Radio 1 which would definitely pull in more viewers for the radio station while further promoting the band in the UK. Tickets go on sale at 10am this Friday (November 23) and although there will probably be around 75,000 seating tickets and 15,000 standing tickets going on sale I really wouldn't expect these tickets to last more than a few days, so get them while you can.

Concert for Diana @ Wembley Stadium
2007-07-02 00:07:00 Today England commemorated the 46th birthday of Princess Diana, who died in a tragic accident in France almost 10 years ago, with a fantastic concert in the Wembley Stadium. The show opened with an emotional performance of "Your Song" by Sir Elton John, followed by Duran Duran, Lilly Allen, James Morrison, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Joss Stone, Kanye West, Diddy and Take That to name a few! You can check out more pictures on my Diana Concert gallery! (click the images to enlarge)My favorite performances were Nelly Furtado (of course!!) singing "Say it Right", "I'm like a bird" and "Maneater"; James Morrison(what a beautiful voice); Kanye West had so much energy on stage, amazing; and i would say Fergie too, except for like half of her performance the sound system was down and we didn't hear her singing!!Also appearances by David Beckham, Dennis Hopper and Sienna Miller.

Demand for NFL Game at Wembley Stadium is High
2007-05-16 17:30:00 Demand for NFL Game at Wembley HighBy DAVE SKRETTAAP Sports WriterNEW YORK -- The grousing by some NFL fans over the first regular-season game to be played overseas might not be limited to this side of the Atlantic.More than half a million ticket requests poured in soon after commissioner Roger Goodell announced the New York Giants would play the Miami Dolphins at the new Wembley Stadium in London. That outpouring of interest for the Oct. 28 contest means many die-hard fans -- not to mention the curious observers the game is intended to reach -- will be stuck watching on TV."This is a game for Europe and a game for hardcore fans of both teams," said Alistair Kirkwood, managing director of NFL UK."The challenge we've got is to keep all the various stakeholders happy."Ticket preference will go to season ticket holders and members of fan clubs, particularly in the United Kingdom.
