Actors Awkwardly Impersonate Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin in ?Mister Lon
2008-06-02 03:51:00 CHICAGO ? The wonder of a filmmaker?s art and perspective is the ability to challenge and reflect the absurdity of our own nature back to us. Few filmmakers have done more to add provocation to that sensibility than Harmony Korine. In his first full-length feature film since ?Julien Donkey-Boy,? Korine explores the hope of miracles and the sorrow of celebrity impersonation in ?Mister Lonely?. Read Patrick McDonald?s full review of ?Mister Lonely? in our reviews section.View our full ?Mister Lonely? image gallery. Diego Luna portrays Michael Jackson as an impersonator in Paris. While performing his act, he meets a Marilyn Monroe impersonator (Samantha Morton). Monroe convinces Jackson to join her commune of other celebrity impersonators including the pope, Madonna, Queen Elizabeth, The Three Stooges, Sammy Davis Jr., Abraham Lincoln, James Dean and Charlie Chaplin (Monroe?s husband). In a separate story, a priest is bringing food to nearby villagers via airplane. While tossing ou...
Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe
2008-02-19 22:08:00 Many of us have had to eat our words; few have eaten our shoes. In 1978, German personality and New Wave director Werner Herzog did both after losing a betwith fellow filmmaker Errol Morris. In a bid to encourage his friend and protégé, Herzog wagered that Morris would not complete his first documentary film "Gates of Heaven" (1978), which examined pet cemeteries in America. This funny and poignant short film by California director Les Blank is being shown at London's Seventeen Gallery. The 22-minute film will be shown on a loop for the whole month of March, which we think is as good excuse as any to check out this rare short of Herzog at his best. Herzog has a long list of accomplishments including Grizzly Man (2005) for which he won best director at Cannes. Morris himself also went to become an accomplished director of course, winning an Academy Award for Best Documentary for The Fog of War(2003), an introspective interview with former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Mc...

Werner Herzog
2008-01-05 13:19:00 One of my favourite directors is definitely Werner Herzog. Herzog made fame with movies such as Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht, Fitzcarraldo and later Grizzly Man. The documentary below is an interview with Herzog on art, cinema, postmodernity among other topics. Well, worth a watch. If you are up for it, below you will find a copy of The White Diamond (2004) - one of Werner's later movies.Plot: A film about the daring adventure of exploring rainforest canopy with a novel flying device-the Jungle Airship. Airship engineer Dr.Graham Dorrington embarks on a trip to the giant Kaieteur Falls in the heart of Guyana, hoping to fly his helium-filled invention above the tree-tops. But this logistic effort will not be without risk. Twelve years ago, a similar expedition into the unique habitat of the canopy ended in disaster when Dorrington's friend Dieter Plage fell to his death. With the expedition is Werner Herzog, setting out now with a new prototype of the airship into the Lost World of ...
