But pretty much anything the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas does grabs my attention. And the nominal ringleader (now that the founder, Rev. Fred Phelps, is getting too old to picket effectively), Shirley Phelps-Roper has announced that her church and kin will be picketing the memorial services of recently deceased actor Heath Ledger. Their reason? He played a gay cowboy in the movie Brokeback Mountain. Oh, and according to Phelps-Roper, they’ll be picketing the Academy Awards this year too.
