Tamarind Hill Malaysian Cuisine in New Westminster
2008-11-30 20:10:00
Suanne and I consider Ed and Christina from Doesn't Tazte Like Chicken as people with sharp mouth. No, I am not saying that they talks a lot. That is a literal translation from the Cantonese expression "Tsim Tsui". They know food very well alright. We had been meeting over dinners once every few weeks. It was our turn to select the location and this time, Suanne and I picked the Tamarind Hill Malaysian Cuisine located in New Westminster. The choice was a hands down choice for us as we know Malaysian food very well.

BBC sayss, "Attempts to cut the upper limit for abortions from 24 to 22 weeks have been rejected by MPs after a free vote.Tory MP Nadine Dorries, a former nurse who proposed a 20-week limit, said: "There comes a point when it has to be said this baby has a right to life."But her plan was defeated by 332 votes to 190. Westminster FSC of Erie: Celebrating 50 years
2008-04-07 06:24:00
Fifty years is a long time for a club to exist and be successful! Just ask Dottie Vassar, one of the founders as well as the first president of Westminster FSC of Erie. In 1958, Dottie, along with others in the Erie area, started the club to promote greater interest in figure skating in the Erie area, in the hopes that one day, the need for an artificial rink would be realized. The club's members skated outdoors on Dauphin Park Pond from 1959 to 1963 (see below right, Dottie is far left), with the club paying boys and girls $1/hour to clear the snow from the pond! In 1964, their dream was realized when construction was completed on the J.M. Cochran Ice Arena. The club has been a member of United States Figure Skating since 1965 and Dottie, now at age 88, continues to be actively involved in the club's success. In addition to being an active board member, Dottie attends Professional Skaters Association seminars, coaches, and runs the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program. The ...

Part II: Sheltie success at Westminster!
2008-03-12 06:00:00
By Ann Compton – Sheltie Nation member & journalist specializing in Canine and Equine Topics (and mom to three Shelties) Every dog lover should see the Westminster Dog Show at least once if at all possible. It’s an experience unlike any other dog show, featuring 2,500 of America’s top dogs in a unique setting. The Westminster Kennel Club show is the second oldest sporting event in the United States, only preceded by the Kentucky Derby, which began two years before the first Westminster Dog Show was held in 1877. The WKC show has taken place every year since it started in New York City at Madison Square Garden, even before it was Madison Square Garden, when it was called Gilmore’s Garden. It has been broadcast on live television since 1948. Westminster has always been held on the second Monday and Tuesday in February and, for the last several years, seats at the Garden have been sold out well in advance. More than 700 members of the media from some 20 countries vie fo...

Westminster Kennel champ sends WIS a message
2008-02-20 03:17:00
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xSlurDt1jyw The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show’s first ever beagle to win “Best in Show” has become an overnight celebrity. On Tuesday, the 15-inch Midlands native named Uno returned home to Lugoff. And of course, WIS-TV was there to do a report. Only, reporter Jennifer Wilson got a little more than she expected when the regal beagle peed on her. Ironic then that she works for WIS (get it, wiz?). Anyway, what do you expect, he’s still a dog? Unfortunately, she didn’t include the footage in the final cut of her news package. But in the video above, Wilson recounts how the champion pooch decided to give her a doggie bath. Since I have a good bit of respect for WIS and their news coverage, I won’t make any jokes about the rich metaphorical value of Uno’s actions. (h/t John Dozier)
Uno, the Beagle, Wins At The Westminster Dog Show
2008-02-19 07:04:00
Yeah, I was impressed too...that sturdy little beagle had me tuning in too. You would have thought he was Underdog the way he handled himself - his confidence, his swagger - what a handsome devil you are Mr. Uno. “Have no fear, Uno is here”, he has been crowned by the Westminster Dog Show.Uno, the stunning beagle, had alot of weight on his tiny little shoulders...Do dogs have shoulders? Well, he won anyway, Uno had the crowd from the beginning, he was just the canine of the moment. Like Snoppy of Charlie Brown fame, Uno simply melted our hearts. We all wanted this beautiful little beagle to pull it off. And he did in royal fashion, the Westminster Dog Show will never be the same. Now, to add to his glory...this small dog accomplished a feat that no other dog in his breed had ever succeeded in doing - he won at the Westminster Dog Show - a feat never before accomplished by a beagle. Remember, dog shows are poodle turf! But not this time. I’m proud of ya Uno...Hip hip...horay...H...

Beagle Finally wins at Westminster After 100 Years..What a Beautiful Dog!!
2008-02-14 13:50:00
Beagles are known for their loud baying cry, their curiosity, their love of people and their messiness. They love digging, getting into garbage and howling. None of these traits seem to match those of the prim and proper dogs seen running around the arena at dog shows, but Tuesday that all changed. Doggie history was made when Uno, a nearly 3-year-old beagle, was awarded best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. By Wednesday afternoon, Uno the beagle already had been on the "Today Show," taped the Martha Stewart Show and was preparing to tape the Letterman show for Wednesday night. Uno also was the featured guest at a dinner for dog enthusiasts at the famous New York restaurant Sardi's, where he dined on steak. He is scheduled to ring the bell that opens the stock market Friday morning on Wall Street.

Patty Hearst wins with her Diva in the Westminster dog show...!!!
2008-02-14 04:29:00
Heard of Patty Hearst??... Grand daughter of the media baron, William Randolph Hears was kidnapped like before three decades by a radical leftist group in California, only to show up weeks later in a bank robbery...Then was in prison for like 2 years....Now she was seen in the Westminster Kennel Club Show at Madison Square Garden in New York as one of the owners of a French Bulldog...."When people find out it's me, it's like it doesn't make sense," acknowledged Ms Hearst-Shaw, the married name she uses nowadays. "The Frenchie people know me... but others, they seem surprised." Among the thousands in the stands, Mitzie McGavic, cheering on a friend, certainly did a double-take. "You're kidding. Is she the Patty Hearst? Showing dogs at Westminster? Who knew?"... Diva ( dog's name), already the proud mother of two litters, actually walked away with a rosette. After a male took top honours among French bulldogs being presented, the judges picked Diva for "Best of Opposite Sex" in t...

A Winning Beagle at Westminster, and Some Loser Humans
2008-02-13 16:10:00
Loser of the day was Charlette Marshall-Jones, 44, the Hillsborough County (Tampa, Florida) Sheriff’s Office deputy who unceremoniously dumped quadriplegic Brian Sterner, 32, from his wheelchair onto the floor while booking him into the Orient Road jail for a traffic offense. After Marshall-Jones, a 22-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, finished frisking the more-or-less motionless Sterner, three other deputies assisted her in putting Sterner back in his wheelchair. One of the officers was seen smiling while, for other deputies in the area, it was business as usual.

Well, the judging is done, and yet again the Frenchie got overlooked for a frou frou poodle. C’est la vie. Apparently a poofy haircut counts for extra super duper bonus points. New Mosaics in Westminster Cathedral
2008-01-25 23:13:00
What the chapel in Westminster Cathedral will look like when finished In The word made mosaic, Apollo Magazine has a feature on the artist Tom Phillips who has been commissioned to prepare a series of designs for new mosaics for a chapel in Westminster Cathedral, London.Phillips works from his house in Peckham, South London."Six years ago he presented a ?Summary Treatise on the Nature of Ornament? to the Architecture Forum at the Royal Academy, a critique of modern Western practices that gives a nod to Sir Joshua Reynolds?s Discourses on Art. Like so much that he does, it is an assimilated work, fusing academic theory and personal concerns, part generated, perhaps, by the Westminster commissions. It provides a vehicle with which to castigate the demotion of the term ?craft?, and assert the spiritual significance of calligraphic ornament, ?where form embodies truth directly?. These concerns inform his mosaic designs.Designing for the chapel cannot have been easy because this little sp...
