Barrett Strong - Money (That's What I Want) (1959)
2007-08-11 09:00:00 A pivotal figure in Motown's formative years, singer/composer Barrett Strong was a key associate and friend of Berry Gordy. It was his hit "Money (That's What I Want)" for Anna Records in 1960 that provided vital capital for Gordy to expand his operation. The song gave Strong his only major hit as a vocalist, reaching number two on the R&B charts and barely missing the pop Top 20. During the late '60s and early '70s, Strong collaborated with Norman Whitfield on some historic songs that included Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby," the Temptations' "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" and "Ball of Confusion," Edwin Starr's "War," and "Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me" for Gladys Knight & the Pips, which he also co-wrote. Strong left Motown when the label moved to Los Angeles in 1972, and he signed with Epic. Someone who will take me to see a band in a small bar one night, then the next night get all dressed up take me to romantic fancy dinner. Someone who can drink a beer at times but also knows how to drink quality wine. Someone who can have fun, likes trying new things and taking chances, but also can be smart and responsible in life. I read in today's DT that when Gordon Brown was visiting Beijing recently he was asked by a group of teenagers what he had wanted to be, at their age, when he grew up. Being a trendy New Labourite he said a professional footballer. This was greeted with a certain amount of disbelief amongst his audience as, when he asked the same question of them the responses included "venture capitalist' and 'research biologist' - aspiring to be a footballer was not something any Chinese teenager would admit to. This got me thinking - how many of us ever end up being what we thought we wanted to be when we were a teenager? I cannot imagine many 14 year olds saying "what I want to be is a top technology PR." It is such a continually asked question of young people but how many have the information to hand at that point in their life to make informed decisions. 2007-03-26 21:35:00 Vissa brudar vill ha diamantprydda smycken, andra vill ha choklad, somliga vill ha rosor. Men jag, jag blir överlycklig av att komma hem och finna Per diskandes i köket och jag blir full av kärlek av att han tar ut soporna utan att jag behöver tjata. Det är underbar vardagsromantik enligt mig =) (att han aldrig torkar av diskbänken efter sig eller låter tomma mjölkpaket stå framme bagatelliseras då *ler*). Det enda som fattas är bara att han kunde laga mat som Jamie Oliver. Nu får jag bli glad om han lagar spaghetti med köttfärssås eller steker pannkakor ett par gånger i månaden =).
