Two Words That Drive Your Anxiety.....
2008-06-04 12:33:00
If you suffer from general anxiety you may find yourself saying things like: "What if I get cancer?", "What if my partner is falling out of love with me?", "What if I say something and look like an idiot?", "What if I can't meet that deadline at work?","What if I mess up that presentation?", "What if...?" All these "what ifs...?" keep anxiety stoked. When you are worrying or anxious there is a stream of these "what if...?" thoughts. So, what to do? Well there are a number of methods you can use. But I'll teach you a very simple one you can begin using today, quickly and easily. It's a two step process... 1. Become Aware. Usually these "what if...?" thoughts happen so automatically and naturally they barely register in your conscious mind, you get caught up in a sort of day-dream, or should that be day-mare! So the first step is to become *aware* of when you are caught up in the "what if...?" process. Just notice, and be aware. 2. So what...? When you become aware that you're...

By their nature most real estate investors are an isolated lot. I know, they often go to various network meetings and they share knowledge and such but when the rubber meets the road and the deal is on the line, they are often all by themselves. Finding the deals on properties. Finding tenants or buyers. Managing the repair ...

What if We Shamed Businessmen who visited Brothels?
2007-10-26 17:00:00
Most of my what if? questions are concerning imagining the world differently, but not really thing we can take practical action on. There are already some organizations out there doing similar work, IJM, Not For Sale, and Perverted-Justice (from To Catch a Predator). I was reading the book Freakonomics and it talks a lot about how ...
What if We (the USA) Left Everyone Else Alone?
2007-07-13 21:16:00
Note: Remember, this is just an out loud brainstorm. I’m eager to engage in discussion, but please don’t come on too strong as this isn’t a statement of beliefs I hold strongly, just a “What if?” to make me think a little more. With approval rates low and mumbles of impeachment here and there, there’s ...

After the nearly 10,000 spam hits I?ve gotten on this blog, I?ve started thinking about this whole spam-bot thing. This isn?t another post complaining about spam, though it?s tempting, it?s really about how maybe the weird little things in life actually mirror who we are. Bear with me and we?ll see if I can make ...
What if Everyone Just Stopped Driving?
2007-04-27 15:07:00
Spurred on by the discussion about Driving and Environmental Stewardship, I thought I’d imagine what would happen if everyone just stopped driving. They’d need some sort of compelling reason, so to make this semi realistic, let’s say that during the Super Bowl when millions of people are watching TV, there is a commercial that ...

What If Jewish Citizens Were Armed In Nazi Germany? Holocaust or no? WW2 or

What If I Drafted Jose Reyes Part II
2007-04-12 00:00:00
In Part I, I examined what my pitching staff would have looked like had I gone $53 for Jose Reyes in the NL-only keeper league draft. I concluded I was better off with the pitching staff I drafted due to the extra dollars available that landed me a $17 Pedro Martinez. As for my hitters, I cannot be so sure.  After drafting C Chris Iannetta for $14, my next draftee was 3B Scott Rolen for $26 followed by UT Aaron Rowand for $14, C Carlos Ruiz for $3, Terrmel Sledge for $12 and CR Alberto Callaspo for $5.  However, in this what-if scenario, I did not have the cap to draft Rolen, Rowand and Sledge because I had just $27 to get four players.  With a UT filled by Reyes, I would have still drafted Ruiz for $3.  Given he was a potential target, I would have held back cash for him. This leaves me with 3 players to draft with $24.  Callaspo was still a target and just the type of player I'd be looking for - a hitter who could produce double digit value if a few break...
The What If Factor
2007-04-10 14:52:00
Have you ever considered all the what ifs in life? I don't necessarily mean the regrets we all likely have. Instead, I mean those things that could be called fate, predestination, divine intervention. Do you remember the Gywneth Paltrow moving, Sliding Doors? I loved the premise of how chance occurrences shape the outcomes. What if the circumstances of how you met your spouse were altered? For me, what if my best high school friend, LL, had asked someone else to be a bridesmaid in her wedding? I most likely would have left her reception early and not had the liquid courage to go up to Tate and talk to him. He lived in Tennessee when we met, I lived in Missouri. The likelihood of us meeting any other time was highly unlikely. Of course, I could reach even further into my past and ask what if I'd never met LL? Maybe my Dad would have taken a job in say, Little Rock, Arkansas instead of Springfield, MO. No LL, no Tate.Whatever you call it, fate, divine intervention...I know that I'm ...

What if Firefox crashes?
2007-04-08 11:33:00
So what do you do if you have Firefox installed and you have it setup just the way you think you want it with all the best extensions and all the most usefull GreaseMonkey Scripts and then it crashes? I had this happen to me for the first time this past week and needless to say I was a little miffed. I tried to use Windows XP's system restore to fix what ever it was that I had done to crash things. But that did not help. I tried to uninstall Firefox. Then to reinstall it. I even tried to unistall it, go to the Registry and take out all mention of Mozilla or Firefox and then reinstall just version 1.5 and try to work my way back up to the 2.0.3 version that I had been using just prior and liked so much. Nothing seemed to work. Each time that I did one of the prior mentioned failed fixes I would get Firefox to work for the first time after install but then as soon as I closed it and tried to re-start it I would get the following error message. I was not sure what was going on but I...

Yumiko Tanaka created SpyRod, a camera connected to a long stick with fishing line. The idea is that children can see and record the world from very different view points: a very low viewpoint, as if they were little creatures, a world as if they were giant or simply discover the world from their size-view.By exploring the potential of new small cheap cameras, and by rethinking how children might use them, they stop being cameras and become third eyes.

What If There Were No Black People?
2007-03-23 16:40:00
I don’t post email-forward type posts often, but I felt this one is definitly worthwhile. I heard a gentleman share it at a Black History Month Celebration and wanted to share it. It’s a neat story to inform and help acknowledge the many innovative African-American’s that have helped bring about the technology and life we live today. People who are often missed in history books. So, enjoy the story below and be sure to look up a few of the names to learn more about them. This is a story of a little boy named Theo, who woke up one morning and asked God, “What if there were no Black people in the world?” Well, God, thought about that for a moment and then said, “Son, follow me around today and let’s just see what it would be like if there were no Black people in the world. Get dressed and we will get started.” Theo ran to his room to put on his clothes and shoes. But there were no shoes, and his clothes were all wrinkled. He looked for t...

What if Prices Dropped to Fundamental Values?
2007-03-10 15:52:06
We have speculated a great deal on this board about the future of home prices in our area. The arguments all boil down to a simple conjecture: will prices fall to back to their fundamental values, or are prices going to remain permanently detached and inflated? I make no attempt to answer that question here. The chart link below is a graphical representation of what it would look like if home prices fall back to their fundamental valuations in Orange County. Below is a link to the excel file I used. It is a bit messy, but experienced users can probably navigate it. Orange County Median Price Projections Worksheet BTW, I was thinking about the current state of the market, and Wile E. Coyote came to mind: An allegory for our times. The greedy FB’s chasing their fortunes leading to their destruction. I found it particularly poignant the moment of realization when Wile E discovers he has a serious problem.

Okay, But What If Debt Really Is Bad?
2007-02-28 04:26:07
We’ve had a fabulous discussion over at the Home Sweet Mortgage post, and I’d love to continue it. The thing is, the direction I would really like to take it is into the area of creatively brain storming how a Christians might live and function if they decided Debt really was completely unacceptable. I’m not saying it is (Mindy and I have chosen to take loans out for her to finish school), but I’m contemplating what things might look like if we firmly believed that it was. You see, I think too often we are quick to interpret and justify away some of scripture because we can’t figure out how it would “work” in our world today. I think that’s why a lot of people don’t believe in non-violence (a topic for another post). I think this is also why most people give the “buying is better then renting” statement and then give the short financial advice to back it up. Again, I’m not saying buying is bad, I’m just sa...

What If?
2007-02-22 19:20:00
John 8:31-32 “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”What if? I’m sure every parent recognizes those two little words. Children are notorious for asking questions such as why, how come, and what if. But allow me to ask you this simple question, what if?What if America weren’t free? What if religious liberties were stripped away? What if worshipping God meant complete secrecy? What if reading your Bible could only be done in the privacy of your home? What if praying could only be done silently? What if witnessing of Him meant constant awareness of who was watching you? What if following God and being dedicated to Him meant death? We all think about what other believers have gone through in other countries for following God, but can you truly say that you would do the same? Would you gladly lay your life on the altar of death for Christ? Most...
What if?
2007-02-20 01:20:01
You may be one of those people who thinks about decisions a lot before you finalize them. That may not always be in your best interest if you talk yourself out of things. You may know people who are quick to doubt their potential rather than imagine and act on endless possibilities. Have you ever wondered what if your negative assumptions were wrong? What if those positive outcomes were within your reach? What if you turned down the chance to attend an industry convention, where you might've met a business owner who would turn out to jumpstart your career?  What if you chose instead to go to this convention, and your networking landed you the most challenging job or your career? What if you permitted shyness to prevent you from  approaching an attractive woman with whom it may turn out you have a lot in common? What if you found the courage to speak with this woman, and your continued contact led you to fall and love and choose her to be your wife? What i...
Low Rate Car Insurance - What if My Claim is Denied?
2007-01-31 05:20:07
Getting your insurance claim denied is not a lot of fun. The good news is quite often, a denial can be turned around if any of the details or facts have been overlooked. The first thing you need to understand is there are a number of reasons that an insurance claim can be denied. For instance? You might not have the type of coverage that was needed for your specific case. For instance, if you don?t have collision insurance, when you file a claim for damage to your car, it typically will be denied. It?s possible you filed the wrong type of claim and it didn?t apply to either you or the other driver. Your insurance coverage might have lapsed or you?re late on a payment. The amount of damage exceeds limits on your policy. You were in an accident before your policy was active. There are a number of legitimate reason?s your claim might have been denied, so the first order of business is to find out specifically why it was denied. If after that, you feel like your coverage has been wron...
What if XP had a tabbed interface?

If you love having tabbed browsing in your browser, then you’ll love this also, there is a small free utility that adds tabbed browsing and other features to your Explorer in XP.  The tabbed interface also neatly displays extra information about your folders and files that you should find helpful.  There are a few little known commands that XP has also been coded with that the application simplifies such as Multiple File Rename which easily allows you to rename numerous files at once sequentially.  If you’re heavy on the file thrashing this may be the perfect utility for you.  Check it out on the Explorer XP homepage.
What if future Marvel and DC output resembles that of 52?
2007-01-22 16:07:03
Tim O'Neil at The Hurting predicts that in the future, mainline Marvel and DC could end up resembling the weekly 52 series more than anything else, replete with gratutious storytelling. He's right to be concerned; I'm wondering if there could be a superfluous amount of crossovers that'll be hitting the audience. There certainly are more than a few "event" comics being hurled at us, most of which aren't worth the paper they were printed on, and which decidedly need to be avoided as well. Otherwise, the road to redeption will be made longer.
What if God decided to stop leading us tomorrow because
2007-01-13 06:37:01
What if God decided to stop leading us tomorrow because we didn't follow Him today? What if God couldn't take the time to bless us today because we couldn't take the time to thank Him yesterday? What if we never saw another flower bloom because we grumbled when God sent the Rain? What if God didn't walk with us today because we failed to recognize it as His day? What if, God took away the Bible tomorrow because we would not read it today? What if, God took away His message because we failed to listen to the messenger? What if, God didn't send His only begotten Son because He wanted us to be prepared to pay the price for sin? What if, God stopped loving and caring for us because we failed to love and care for others? What if, God would not hear us today because we would not listen to Him?What if, God answered our prayers the way we answer His call to service? What if, God met our needs the way we give Him our lives??? What if you would join me next Monday in displaying your personal Nativity scene on your blog? If you have read my post on Laced with Grace this morning, you know what I am talking about. Since next Monday is Christmas Day, I am planning on posting a picture of my Nativity scene here with the Scripture passages of Luke 2:1-20… I would be thrilled if you’d join me. I know that you all just participated in BooMama’s Christmas tour, but I thought it would be cool to post about the true Reason for the season on December 25th (I plan on adding Mr. Linky). What Ifs and Maybes

The Thinker Originally uploaded by PoetX. The eternal dilemmas of what if I'd done things differently then maybe......As I've been sat alone at home the past few weekends thoughts have strayed to certain people left behind, to those still left in my life and 'maybe' the people in my future. I know I've been stupid in the past and seen people I should have cared more for disappear into the distant horizon and those 'what if' questions and their 'maybe' answers flood my thoughts.-What if I hadn't cared so much about his age being a problem then maybe I'd still be with him now.-What if I hadn't said 'I love you' so soon maybe I wouldn't have scared him away.-What if I'd grown a set of balls and told them to go screw their job then maybe I'd be in a better one.-What if I just packed up and left then maybe I'd be missed.-What if I didn't care so much about what people thought of me then maybe I could start just being myself.-What if I could fall in love with s...
the 'what if?' game
2006-12-06 03:04:13
another hectic weekend, though unintentional. really, i was planning on having a quiet one considering the craziness of the previous.on friday night, a bunch of us ended up at the peel, a gay venue in the suburb of collingwood. it was boys only night, which in spite of the suggestive salaciousness of the event, have from previous experiences often failed to live up to expectation. last friday was no different. somewhat disappointing, though it did prove particularly interesting.i saw my uncle there. and his partner. nothing out of the ordinary. after all, it's not a secret that this uncle is gay. it's actually common knowledge. no, what makes the whole thing of interest is the partner. a guy i dated the year before. yes, dated. in fact, our history together goes back even further. he was the president of the youth group i was a member of during my late teens. it was only by chance that we caught up again last year. our dating days were short. he was after a long-term relationship....
What if humans had two butts?
2006-11-19 03:03:02
All my life, I’ve been intrigued by “What If” questions such as this. Even as a kid, I would drive everyone around me a little nutty with questions such as “What if the sky just stopped being blue?”, “What if we lived on the moon?”, and “what if 2 + 2 actually equalled 33?”. Yeah, I was one of THOSE kids. Apparently these questions are much cuter coming from a kid than an adult. I sometimes find a few people who love playing my “What If” games, others who look at me like I’m crazy, and the rest don’t say much … they are probably thinking “just smile and move away quietly before you are offered to see the spaceship” (or maybe they’re just being polite). Here are a few of my favorite “What If” questions that, for some reason, rank high on the ‘walk away quietly’ scale when introduced in casual conversation. I have my own personal thoughts on the answers, bu...
