Figure sculpting: Wicked Witch of the West WIP 01
2007-12-10 12:57:00 Hello again!I've entered the clubhouse sculpting Jam once more. This time the subjects are the land of Oz and Narnia. My entry this time is Wicked Witch of the West, at least my rendition of her. Like most of my sculpt she is made from soft oil clay. I'm still brewing my home made clay... still no luck. No armature (unless you count a single q-tip stick as armature), and standing 4,5" tall. This is also a chance for me to study up on sculpting clothes and drapery. As always enjoy, and thanks for visiting!

Or rather her approval rating that is… Voters’ views of Pelosi, Congress have dimmed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s own party is turning on her, apparently because of a perception among California Democrats that she has not done enough to shake up the status quo in ...
What You Didn't Know About the Wicked Witch of the West
2007-10-28 16:02:00 Photo courtesy of the Bucks County Playhouse website.Oh, that nose, that green skin, that voice, that cackle. No matter how many times I?ve seen The Wizard of Oz, I still get a chuckle and a chill over one of the most famous screen villainesses of all time ? The Wicked Witch of the West, as played by Margaret Hamilton. But as someone who champions underrated actors, I couldn?t help but wonder ? particularly as Halloween approaches ? what Ms. Hamilton was like in real life. My guess was that off screen she was anything but a witch. And so I offer up a tribute full of unknown tidbits about one of Hollywood?s most recognized but perhaps underappreciated character actors. Hamilton was born in 1902 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was drawn to acting as a child and made her theater debut in 1923. Her personal life, remarkably, had much in common with many women today: in 1931 she married only to divorce her husband seven years later ? a time when ending a marriage was not encouraged or very commo...

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Magu
2007-04-26 16:30:00 In Wicked, Gregory Maguire takes, ?The Wizard of Oz,? a fairy tale so deeply engrained in our cultural memory that many of us could recite it in our sleep, and turns it 180 degrees on its head, making the Wicked Witch of the East a religious fanatic, the Wizard an evil tyrant and the Wicked Witch of the West a misunderstood outcast who only wants to, ?Do no harm in this world.? This fractured tale begins in Munchkinland, where Melena and Frexspar, two missionaries, give birth to a little green girl named Elphaba, instantly shunned for her odd coloring and eerie nature. Elphaba?s childhood is anything but normal, as a parade of zany characters march into her life, from her mother?s headstrong nanny to an exotic glassblower both of her parents love.

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Magu
2007-04-26 00:08:00 If someone asked you who was the villain of ?Wizard of Oz,? I?m sure the Wicked Witch would be the first thing to come to mind. After reading Gregory Maguire?s ?Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,? you may want to think again. Maguire adds to the fantastic world of Oz, but creates an amazing new world of his own shown through the eyes of his own heroine of the well known story, the Wicked Witch of the West.
