The Colonel’s Last Wicket by G V Rama Rao
2008-02-28 09:20:00 The Colonel’s Last Wicket by G V Rama Rao is a delightful novel that uses scenarios and technicalities drawn from cricket to add poignancy to a gentle but moving story. This is not a book about cricket. It’s a book about people, about their development, their motivation and their identity. At the plot’s core are Colonel Seth and Raju, the former a retired, decorated Indian Army officer. He is a widower, proud of his successful daughters, but still suffers a little when he contemplates what might have been. Despite his medals, he was never promoted to the highest rank; his beloved wife died; he never had a son. And he never achieved the distinction of playing first class cricket.Raju’s life has been a thoroughly different story, however. He is an orphan, living a life of poverty in a poor area. Of dubious parentage, even his peers and playmates regard him with some disdain. But Colonel Seth sees talent and potential in Raju when, by chance, he watches the boy playing a makeshi...

Akhtar hopes wicket assists him
2007-12-07 06:50:00 Shoaib Malik, his left foot in a green cast, bears a rueful smile on his face ? the captain, who twisted his ankle after the loss of the first Test at Delhi, will have to miss the third Test.?Yes, it?s very disappointing, and I wish I?d been able to play,? says Malik, who?s been advised a five-day rest by a local orthopaedic. ?But sometimes, that?s how it goes, and no point in worrying over it now.?Actually, there is a lot of worry in the Indian camp ? on this track, where pace is generally a factor, their own new ball attack has been rendered impotent by injuries to their all their first-choice pacemen. 2007-12-03 20:45:00 Today, Sri Lankan legendary spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan becomes the highest wicket taker in test cricket history. He achieved this success in his 116 test match against England in Kandy. He has now taken 709 wickets from 116 test matches which are one than the previous record of 708 held by Australian star bowler Shane Keith Warne. However, Muralitharan achieved this success only in 116 matches while it took 145 matches for Warne to complete this task. This moment become more memorable for the Muttiah Muralitharan because Kandy is home town of Muttiah Muralitharan, he is born in this city on April 17, 1972. His complete family, friends and fans were present to witness this glorious moment. Muralitharan started his cricket career in 1992 and today he is highest wicket taker in test and second highest wicket taker in ODI. Hopefully, Muralitharan will also break the 502 wickets record of Wasim Akram of Pakistan, at present Muralitharan has 455 wickets from 297 matches. With this gre...
wicket cricket
2007-12-01 06:20:00 so i received my first lesson in cricket, purely educational with no hands-on experience required. the big series has been on-going for a month, pitting the best of pakistan with the formidable indian team. anybody with a sense of national pride is watching the games, and seeming as we're one of few people who own a tv, it's convenient for people to drop by. no worries though, it's an entertaining break from our regular routine. anyway, based on my experience of how the scores are displayed on tv, i was under the impression the score was 245-8. quite an overwhelming deficit to work your way out of... potentially a point where perhaps some sort of mercy rule should be considered to spare the embarrassment of such a prolonged whippin'. apparently, the second number isn't the score, but how many wickets have been made (outs for us north americans). the other teams' score? you're just supposed to remember that, you are rooting for them aren't you?

Shahid Afridi is the highest wicket taker in twenty20 world cup
2007-09-18 18:58:00 Shahid Afridi is not getting chances to bat up the order and to show his destructive batting performance in the world twenty20 2007. But he has turned himself to be the key bowler not only in Pakistani side but also among all the teams. He has taken 10 wickets in this twenty-twenty world cup to be the highest wicket-taker along with Daniel Vettori of New Zealand.Afridi doesn't get great spin of the ball but his change in pace and clever bowling has helped him a lot in this series. Shahid Afridi is very clever in his bowling. He took 4 wickets against Scotland, 1 against India, 3 against Sri Lanka and 1 against Australia. I am really impressed by his change in pace and his ability to read the batsman. Afridi just forces the batsmen to do mistakes and finally he takes wickets. Afridi though is not a great turner of ball is successful due to this.Along with Shahid Afridi's destructive batting and sharp fielding, his bowling is best suited for twenty20 games which he has already prove...

Keeping wicket's broken all my fingers
2007-09-12 10:48:00 By the look of him, David Morrison is anything but a safe pair of hands. In 45 years of wicket keeping, the amateur legaue cricketer has broken every finger and both his thumbs. Bowled over: Every single finger and thumb has been broken during Dave Morrison's 45 year cricket careerReluctant to seek medical attention for fear of losing his place in the team he would simply apply a frozen bag of peas and let nature take its course. When doctors finally did get a chance to examine his hands three years ago - his thumb was so badly injured it needed to be pinned in place - they were so amazed they took scores of photographs and asked to use them in lectures.Howazat! Dave won a trophy at the weekend but also got hit in the eye by a fast-bowler"If you don't get it just right behind the stumps you can take quite a nasty knock to your hands," the 64-year-old father of two admitted."I didn't really like to let on that I was injured because I didn't want to lose my place in the team."In the...

Wicked Wicket Words
2007-04-29 14:04:00 I was in J?burg when Australia took on their arch rival Australia in semi final world cup. I had planned to be part of boisterous crowd in a sports pub but when I heard the scorecard 25 for 5, I decided against it. Had South Africa started well, I am sure I would have had enough dose of jabs, digs of verbal warfare from South African every time ball would hit by Protease batsman.
