Victory Over Wigan Sends United Four Points Clear
2011-02-26 18:17:00 Man United have gone four points clear of Arsenal in the Premier League table after a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium. Man United Squad: Starting Line-Up: Van Der Sar, O'Shea, Smailling, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Nani, Rooney and Hernandez. Bench: Kuszczak, Brown, Berbatov, Fabio, Rafael, Gibson and King The Game: Wigan got off to the better start and should have taken the lead 12 minutes in, a mistake by Paul Scholes was pounced on by Victor Moses, who was clean through on goal but Edwin Van Der Sar made the save. Despite their poor start, it was Man United who took the lead. Luis Nani's run down the left, his cross into the area was brilliantly finished by Javier Hernandez. Immediately after the goal, Wigan should have equalised but Van Der Sar managed to block James McCarthy's effort. A fantastic move by Man United nearly resulted in a 2-0 lead after Rooney found Nani, he shot, his effort had the keeper beaten but hit the inside of the po...

Man United Level With Chelsea After 2-0 Win
2010-11-20 19:35:00 Manchester United are now level on points with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table after beating Wigan 2-0 at Old Trafford, whilst Chelsea lost 1-0 to Birmingham. Earlier on in the day Arsenal threw a 2-0 lead away and ended up losing 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates. The away side started off the brighter of the two teams with two shots on target in the first 10 minutes. Luis Nani came close twice after those chances, his first effort took a deflection and went for a corner, and his second was a free kick. Patrice Evra headed Ji-Sung?s cross past Ali Al Habsi just before half time to give United the lead. That was Evra?s Premier League goal in four years. After the break Wigan?s chances of getting anything out of the game took a massive blow after Antolin Alcaraz and Hugo Rodallega were both sent off within three minutes of each other. Alcaraz was first off after being shown a second yellow card, Rodallega was shown a straight red after a lunge on Rafael d...

Wigan Athletic 0-6 Chelsea: Drogba stars as champions demolish Latics
2010-08-22 09:45:00 Chelsea continued their fine early season form with a 0-6 win over Wigan Athletic, with Nicolas Anelka, fresh from an 18-match international ban, notched his first two of the campaign, with Salomon Kalou also adding a late brace. After last weekend?s utterly disastrous 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Premier League debutants Blackpool, Wigan fans would not be blamed to expect total domination from today?s opponents, and reigning BPL champions, Chelsea but the Lancashire side started out on top. Breakthrough:Florent Malouda nets in first Chelsea goal Anelka struck twice after Florent Malouda's opener before Kalou also grabbed a brace. Yossi Benayoun struck in injury time to make it a deadly dozen goals in just 180 minutes of Premier League football this season.Wigan simply had no answer to Chelsea's powerful running and pacy attacking play. And they stand rock-bottom of the Premier League following last week's dismal capitulation to Blackpool.Mohamed Diame's left-footed drive...

Comfortable Win For Man United, But It Wasn't Quite Enough
2010-05-10 01:45:00 Earlier on today Man United put in a professional performance against Stoke, unfortunately after thrashing Wigan 8-0, it was Chelsea who lifted the Premier League trophy. Nothing United could do would affect what happened down at Stamford Bridge, but a job needed to be done at Old Trafford against Stoke. Early news from London was that Chelsea had got a six-minute goal against Wigan. That surely all but guaranteed them the title but whilst it was still only at 1-0 United had a chance and had to win. United took the lead just after the half hour mark through a Ryan Giggs corner was headed at goal by Nemanja Vidic. His header rebounded off a few players and into the path of Darren Fletcher, who hit the ball into the roof of the net. With around 12/13 minutes before half time, both scorelines at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford stood at 2-0, with Wigan down to 10 men in the process. United?s second came after a descent run by Dimitar Berbatov, who had been guilty of missing a...

Manchester United V Stoke Preview
2010-05-09 00:52:00 Tomorrow we will find who will win the Premier League this season, since the season started all the way back in mid August 2009. Manchester United and Chelsea can both win it, but Chelsea has the advantage. Chelsea are one point ahead of United, if they beat Wigan then they will be champions. If the London side draw or lose and Man United win then Man United will retain the trophy. Man United face a Stoke side that only a few weeks ago lost 7-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It?s not like Stoke don?t have anything to play for, their lowest possible table position is 13th, which will earn them £6.4 million. If they beat United, their highest possible finish is 9th, earning them £9.6 million. Unlike Liverpool at Anfield last weekend against Chelsea, Stoke won?t roll over against Man United. Man United has been hampered by many injuries throughout this season but tomorrow Sir Alex Ferguson will only have three players out injured. Long-term absentees Anderson and Michael Owen hav...

Wigan Won't Do A Liverpool- They Will Play To Win
2010-05-04 01:44:00 After Sundays miserable performance by Liverpool, Manchester United have to rely on some final day heroics by Wigan at Stamford Bridge. United need Wigan to draw or beat Chelsea, if they do that and we beat Stoke then Man United will win a fourth consecutive Premier League title. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has assured Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United that Wigan will go down to London and give their best. Many have heavily criticized Liverpool?s pathetic, disgraceful performance against Chelsea. If Man United do win the Premier League this season, they will overtake Liverpool?s record of 18 League titles, which they obviously don?t want. Ahead of the probable title deciding crash Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said that his wouldn?t be an issue. The Liverpool players wouldn?t be thinking about the possibility of United winning a 19th title, they would be professional but that obviously wasn?t the case. Wigan on the other hand may not be fighting for fourth or fig...

The Perfect Weekend For Manchester United
2010-04-18 18:20:00 This weekend was a massive weekend for Man United. After last weeks dismal performance against Blackburn Rovers we needed to take three vital points from the game against Manchester City, to keep us in the title race. Anything less than three points and that would be our season over. If Tottenham Hotspur could take anything off Chelsea then that would be a massive bonus. United had the early kick-off against City at Eastlands, with only a minute remaining in the game, it looked like out season was over. That was until Paul Scholes turned up with a beautiful header two minutes into added time, which saw United leave with Eastlands with three points in the bag. We then had to wait until the evening kick-off to see if Tottenham could do us a favour and take some points against Chelsea at White Hart Lane. After beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Lane midweek, Spurs were full of confidence and to many peoples surprise; they also managed to beat Chelsea 2-1. The game also saw Chelsea and...

World Soccer News
2008-07-08 07:01:00 World Soccer News for the week of July 7thSensational LDU Quito Latin America championsAbsence of the away-goals rule in the Copa Libertadores finals cost Fluminense of Rio dearly, the ruling helped LDU of Quito to become the first Ecuadorian team to become the winners of the Latin America's premier club competition. The away game in Quito ended 4-2 to LDU and the return leg 3-1 to Fluminense, which would have guaranteed the title to the Brazilians according to the UEFA's rules...and indeed according to the rules applied in Copa Libertadores in all stages EXCEPT in the finals. However, the return game went to extra time and then to penalties, where LDU had more composure, winning 1-3.It was a dramatic match in front of an 85,000 crowd at the Maracana stadium, LDU going ahead in the 6th minute and Fluminense coming back with a hat trick from Thiago Neves. Ironically, it was Neves who missed a penalty together with Washington and Conca, helping LDU take the trophy to Quito.Ironically,...

Wigan v Manchester United Review
2008-05-12 10:27:00 What a day it was yesterday for Manchester United. It was mixed feelings in my household, theres me who supports United so it was a great day for me, my sister supports Chelsea so she had to put up with me being happy. Finally my brothers are both Reading fans and with them being relegated it was an upsetting day for them. Back to Manchester United-Before the match i was confident but there was a thought in my head that it might not go the way i wanted it to go. The first 15/20 minutes of the match was worrying me because United looked nervous and so was Fergie because he was out in the dugout which he only does when he is worried. Wigan could have been given a penalty when the ball appeared to hit Ferdinand's arm in the penalty area but i think that it hit is shoulder and it rightly wasnt given. The players could hardly retain the ball and it wasnt looking too good until Rooney was brought down in the penalty area and we had a penalty. There was no doubt in my mind on who was going...

Chelea play Bolton at home and we play Wigan away. Here are the scenario's:1. United win and Chelsea win - United win the Premier League2. Steve Bruce Next United Manager
2008-05-09 19:20:00 There is much speculation that if United win the Premier League and Champion's League then the boss (Fergie) will retire. Now i will start off by saying i dont think he will retire for a few more years, he has plenty left to give. Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan had this to say:?When United come to choose a new manager, if they go for Steve Bruce you have no chance of standing in their way,? Whelan said in the Daily Star.?I wouldn?t contemplate doing so if United came for Steve. I would be delighted for him and sorry for the club.?If Sir Alex wins another European title this year - which I hope he does - he may decide he has had enough.?Now, many of ex United players have been linked with the job- Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes, Roy Keane. But why not look closer to home? I think that Queiroz should be given the chance to replace Fergie. Queiroz could also bring us some more fantastic portugese players like Ronaldo and Nani. Yes, i do include Nani as being a good player, he is young and naive...

Will Bolton Do Their Job?
2008-05-08 19:48:00 I am gettting pretty bored of people saying will Wigan do their job against United on sunday. People at Wigan have said that they will do the job, United know they will do their jobs and so do the fans. Everyone seems to know that Wigan will give 100% against United expect for Chelsea and their fans. I havent heard people saying, will Bolton do their job? Bolton are basically safe because of their goal difference so the isnt an excuse when they say that Wigan are safe so they have nothing to play for.All it is, is Chelsea stirring it up, they know in their heads that the title will be staying at Old Trafford. So what i would say to Chelsea and their fans is stop worrying about United and Wigan and start worrying about yourselfs because the pressure is on you, not us!!!!!!!!!!Man United Devils is a blog which is updated everyday. 1.5 million reasons to beat United
2008-05-07 12:00:00 On sunday United have to beat Wigan, we must assume that Chelsea will beat Bolton, they arent going to loose to Bolton, i cannot see that happening at all especially with Chelsea's home record. There have been reports that Wigan are going to take it easy but Steve Bruce has squashed those rumours- if Wigan beat United they will move up 2 places and that will earn them an extra £1.5 million.Steve Bruce said: "We've got to be professional and we will be. The difference between finishing two places in the Premier League these days is almost £1.5 million,"If Wigan , who currently lie 13th, beat United and Newcastle United lose at Everton, they would finish 12th, earning them £6.4m in prize money. But if the Wigan lose they could finish as low as 15th and net £2.1m less.I personally havent doubted that Wigan will make a game of it, but if we have to win then i think we will win. It is just Chelsea trying to put pressure on Wigan to put a performance in. But i dont care less about what C...

5 points ahead, 4 games left, can we do it?
2008-04-15 10:57:00 You probably already know that last night Chelsea drew 1-1 with Wigan after a late stoppage time goal from Heskey, so we are now back upto five points ahead of Chelsea. There are four games left in this season's Premier League, we still have to go to Stamford Bridge but we can now afford to loose to Chelsea (assuming we win at Blackburn this weekend). Here are both teams last four games:United Blackburn (A)Chelsea (A)West Ham (H)Wigan (A)Chelsea Everton (A)ManUtd (H)Newcastle (A)Bolton (H)We still have some hard matches to play, well all of them are hard, Blackburn, Chelsea and then we have West Ham who did the double over us last season and they beat us earlier in the season. Finally we have Wigan who have a terrible pitch but they are also a good team which was proved last night against Chelsea.Chelsea have a difficult away match against Everton this thursday who are still fighting for the Champion's League spot, then they have us which will be a difficult game, followed by Newca...
