HRC will be wheeling out its pneumatic valve engine earlier than expected. After Honda decided not to bring the engine to Le Mans for the tests which are currently under way, it seemed the first place the air valve engine could make an appearance might be the test after the Catalunya round of MotoGP in Barcelona. Now, though, Honda has changed its mind. HRC's test rider Tady Okada has been entered as a wildcard ride for the race at Mugello on June 1st, and he will be riding the new version of the RC212V complete with pneumatic valve engine. Motorcycle News is reporting that AMA Superbike champion Ben Spies will be offered a ride on the GSV-R MotoGP bike before the end of the season. Whether this will be a factory test or a wildcard appearance has not yet been settled. The problem for Suzuki is that the wildcard rides are already done deals, with very little room for maneuver. However, Suzuki also know how important providing MotoGP rides to talented riders is, to keep them involved and prevent them from leaving for another manufacturer. Coming so shortly after news of Hopkins' resignation, it is almost inevitable that this will lead to speculation that Spies could be a candidate to take the ride vacated by Hopper. Wildcard Images has been created for the representation of high quality creative imagery from other international agencies.
