POP: Time for the 1st Will Wright Minute
2008-08-16 14:00:00 I have to say this is one of the best(if not the only) idea that G4 has ever pumped out. Will Wright is a great speaker(just check out his TED talk on Montesorri schools) and I look forward to his minutes of somewhat useless though definately interesting trivia.

Will Wright talks Spore on Wii, delays, procedural music - SendMeRSS
2008-02-12 20:23:00 Will Wright talks Spore on Wii, delays, procedural musicFiled under: PC, Nintendo Wii, Wireless, Simulations We know that after years of delays, whatever part of your heart cares about Spore has calcified and hardened. But now that it's actually, really, no kidding coming out on Sept. 7, it's probably OK to start getting pumped again, and Newsweek's N'Gai Croal is there for you to help turn your heartlight back on.In the first part of a massive interview, Will Wright lays it all on the table and reminds you how great the game is going to be (spoiler alert: very) and why it took so long to get here. Then Wright delves into the Wii version of the game, which he says will take advantage of the Wiimote to give more control over creatures. Also in that second part, an incredibly rad explanation about how you'll be able to procedurally generate a theme song for the city in your game. ... What's the feeling stirring in our hearts? Could it be ... anticipation? Do we dare to love aga...

Will Wright vs. Hopkins Live Up To The Hype?
2007-07-21 16:51:00 As Ronald "Winky" Wright and Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins faced each other at yesterday's weigh-in, something completely unexpected happened: A fight broke out between the Wright and Hopkins entourages. ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael saw it like this:"Things got heated between the two, and after some finger wagging and trash talk, Hopkins stuffed his open fist into Wright's forehead, pushing him back. Wright shoved him back and a mini-melee broke out on stage." While this move may have generated some hype for the bout, it will cost Hopkins, according to Rafael: "Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission ... said that 10 percent of Hopkins' $3 million purse ($300,000) would be held by the commission and that a complaint would be filed against him Monday." This is nothing we haven't seen before. Weigh-ins have historically been a place where two fighters who have been training to beat the hell out of each other will come to blows. But the question now ...
SXSW: Toys for boys, playing in Will Wright's virtual doll house
2007-03-16 09:00:00 Will Wright, the famed game designer behind SimCity, The Sims, and the yet to be released and highly anticipated Spore, flipped through pages of storytelling to an audience of all ears. Linking stories with the shift from passive to interactive media, Wright outlined the social and biological differences between games and film. While games utilize our basic instincts within the brain, film typically provides a rich emotional palette. Rather than push for the complete adoption of one or the other, Wright integrated the two into a cohesive experience.Relating to a computer mainly consisting of two parts, calculation and communication, Wright's games involve the possibilities of storytelling as well as the experience of sharing it. Wright explained that people enjoy playing with boundaries and then reporting back on their experiments, a theme that had been mentioned at an earlier panel discussing hacktivism and DIY culture. Most notably, this was seen in The Sims, which was regarded a... |
