The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
2008-03-11 13:12:00 Being so, three playwrights had the ambitious idea of putting all of his works melted in one single play together: tragedies, history plays, comedies and even a few poems. ...First: gather your fellow writers and go over the plays, trying to make at least one sentence for each one of them, cutting out all the boring lines – no exceptions. ...But since humor is a complicated matter even today, when different countries seem to have their own sense of comedy, imagine trying to make people laugh with centuries old jokes. ...The actors did what they know how to do with excellence, the public laughed, but I must say that as I read so many newspaper reviews on this show as hilarious and brilliant, I imagined something more uh, let’s say, classy. I wasn’t expecting to be brought to laughter only for the puking, farting, Beyonce and Britney Spears dancing style imitation and for some tired sexual jokes, but instead I was expecting bright jokes and inspired bridges ...
ArtSunday: Impressionism exhibit offers a lesson in tradition and rebellion
2008-03-02 22:14:00 [An artist] should copy the masters and re-copy them, and after he has given every evidence of being a good copyist, he might then reasonably be allowed to do a radish, perhaps, from Nature. - Edgar Degas I went to see the “Inspiring Impressionism” exhibit yesterday at the Denver Art Museum and came away struck by how remarkably it addressed questions of influence and originality in art, issues that have long been central to my own thinking and writing. As a poet, I’ve long been aware of the debt I owe the masters whose genius has shaped my own work, and if my efforts pale in comparison, they’re at least less meager than they would have been had I not spent so much time in the company of Donne, Shakespeare, Yeats, Hopkins, Wright, Thomas, and perhaps most especially, Eliot. Degas would no doubt be pleased with my early days, where I was a relentless copyist. Not a great one - very few of us are great at anything at that age - but a dedicated one. If you look ...

William Shakespeare - An Author of the Bible?
2008-02-10 11:56:00 Seems like an outrageous idea — but there are indeed some a strange coincidences involving Shakespeare and Psalm number 46 in the King James version of the Bible. Here s the first: William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564. This tells us that he would have been the age 46 during the year 1611 — for almost 4 months. This was the same year that the King James version of the Bible was published. Secondly, take a look at Psalm 46 from the King James version. What exactly is the 46th word? Psalm 46: To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. 1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. 4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the mo...

VerseDay: the poet in love
2008-02-08 17:42:00 I’ve long been convinced of two truths regarding poetry: 1: The easiest thing in the world to write is a love poem. 2: The hardest thing in the world to write is a good love poem. Accordingly, I admire the hell out of a writer who can produce a tribute to his/her eternal love without making me a little sick to the stomach. I think the problem I’ve often encountered is that great poetry - great art of any sort, really - is driven by tension. Whether it’s political rage, the fear of loss, the pain of mourning, whatever, it seems that the muse is more intrigued by that which is wrong with the world than that which is right. And love - real love, anyway - is an expression of two people’s triumph over the dark tension propelling most great artists. Most of the great love poems I can think of aren’t really love poems purely - they’re often driven by negative conditions. The love is unrequited, a lover is marching off to war, things like that. Just one m...

Macbeth - William Shakespeare

Britney Spears The Next William Shakespeare
2007-06-24 18:33:00 Britney Spears had decided to bless us with her amazing poetic messages. Two new messages appeared on the Britney Spears Official Site the past days. First, Britney Writes, "You'll Never See it My Way, because You're Not Me." ! Wow... Isn't that deep. Does she mean we will never see it her way because she is mentally insane? The Second is even better! Such genius! "Mother to Grandmother, and my my you're grand" . I guess this is a stab at her mom. I feel bad for her mom! A mid twenty year old girl still rebelling!I really hope these messages are a cause of drunkenness. If she was drunk then I can accept these messages. Everyone gets a drunken moment when they think of doing something cleaver that really isn't .... Then they wake up in the morning and say "What the hell was I thinking!".... I guess this is where Britney differs from the rest of the world.

2007-05-12 05:22:00 Kenneth Branagh’s four-hour production of Shakespeare’s full text for Hamlet is visually lush (shot in 70mm, which is rarely done) and full of fascinating story moments that normally get cut from shorter stage versions.
