They take immense pride in their ...

Williamsburg Trundle Bed Collection
2008-04-21 18:52:00 Often, when I see a trundle bed, the space for the bottom bed (the trundle) is usually not enough to accommodate extra drawers. One would either have to take the bed out and replace the underside with storage or keep the bed as is. A bed design like this is definitely not the usual kind and ...

HELLO - Williamsburg Brooklyn Condo Prices Plunge 10%+ in 2007
2008-01-05 02:51:00 Williamsburg Brokerage Owner: Prices Down '10 to 12% in '07by NY Observer - snips:The owner of one of Williamsburg's biggest brokerage firms, Aptsandlofts.com, said that the Corcoran Group's 2007 market report was "wrong" in estimating that the average price of a condo in the neighborhood had increased 8 percent since 2006. David Maundrell told The Observer on Friday afternoon that "there was no way" that the average price of a condo in the Williamsburg market had risen from $817,000 in 2006 to $880,000 in 2007, as the Corcoran report concludes. "Their data is wrong. We've seen the market come down 10 to 12% across the board since it peaked in the beggining of 2006," he said. "Prices were astronomically high, even inflated so they had to come down," Mr. Maundrell explained of the causes for the slump. "Plus there has been a lot more development and competition, and sales were also impacted by [interest] rates, which helped the rental market in 2007"... More residential devel...

Among the Chasids in Williamsburg
2007-10-31 15:53:00 Williamsburg is a part of Brooklyn and like a mix of New York City and Europe. Everything is personal. You won’t see any large coffee or fast food chains here as on Manhattan, I hope it stays that way. The only picture I had of Williamsburg was from the Swedish culture journalist Nina Solomin’s “ok, amen”. This book ...

Penhaligon?s Violetta Talcum Powder and Colonial Williamsburg Powder of Vio
2007-10-07 21:18:00 Dusting powder is a wonderfully nostalgic treat. It?s not a strictly necessary grooming ritual, but the act of patting a fragranced powder onto the body with a fluffy puff can make anyone feel like the flawlessly beautiful star of a 1930s film, even without a bias-cut satin gown or an Art Deco dressing table. Of course, the use of talc to scent and soften the skin predates Hollywood by a few centuries, so it seems appropriate that some long-established merchants are keeping its tradition alive. Penhaligon?s is a perfumery founded during the Victorian era, and Colonial Williamsburg is the recreation of an eighteenth-century city; appropriately enough, both offer body powders scented with violet fragrance. Penhaligon?s Violetta perfume, created in 1976, is a soliflore with crisp, green top notes above a clean violet center and a mossy base. However, the scent of its complementary talcum is simpler and sweeter: the Violetta powder (shown above) has a pure, delicate floral aroma. ...

North Williamsburg Brooklyn Prices Down 10%+
2007-09-22 03:33:00 Neighborhood Watch: How vulnerable are you? A risk analysis by New York Magazine - snip:Is your neighborhood oversupplied with condos? Still in demand? Cruising along? Cruising for a fall? Here's the definitive guide, with risk factors (see key at right) for each neighborhood...HIPSTER BROOKLYN:WILLIAMSBURG AND GREENPOINT at 7.0The fact is, asking prices are down already in Williamsburg. Local broker David Maundrell says the area is off as much as 10 percent, though he?s quick to add that it looks like it?s stabilized. The culprit appears to be the huge amount of new construction (and reconstruction). According to the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at New York University, the Department of Buildings issued 559 new certificates of occupancy here in 2005?more than five times as many as in Park Slope and Carroll Gardens combined. That said, some Burghers have a lot more to worry about than others. "Everything good that Williamsburg is known for, it?s on the north side,...
Photos: Black Lips Circus/Parade/party at Music Hall of Williamsburg
2007-09-20 21:21:00 It should come as absolutely no surprise that those three words within the slashes would make complete sense when mentioned in the same sentence as the so-called (and rightly so) "most dangerous band in the world", Atlanta's Black Lips. After causing a ruckus this week in New York City with the arrest of some "fan" who decided to climb the globe on Central Park West, dropping one of the culture of me's picks for best of the year records, Good Bad Not Evil, and generally being their ridiculously crazy selves at Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night, the foursome joined a motley crew of alterna-marching-band kids for a free in-store shindig at Williamburg's Sound Fix records (complete with partial nudity...oh my!). Directly following that, the whole clan of performers, fans, and streetwalkers alike paraded down North 11th Street, Wythe Avenue and finally down North 6th Street to the Music Hall of Williamsburg (ugh...we're always going to call it North Six) wh...

The ExxonMobil spill, which happened in 1950 along the 31/2-mile creek, may be as large as 30 million gallons of oil instead of earlier estimates of 17 million, according to a report released yesterday by the federal Environmental Protection Agency. The spill and ensuing cleanup efforts led to community outcry and many lawsuits. The area hit hardest has been Brooklyn's Greenpoint section. While 9 million gallons of oil have been removed by ExxonMobil, the EPA cautioned the recovery volume might be overestimated and oil unrelated to the ...
