2008-04-22 07:49:00
Today I've got some pretty neat new Sidebar Gadgets to tell you about for Windows Sidebar. If you're into Baseball, you'll like this new Gadget. Fox Sports on MSN is offering a Fantasy Baseball Gadget brought to you by People-Ready Business from Microsoft. With this Gadget, you can check up on Fantasy Baseball news, check player stats, and create your own roster. This Gadget requires Adobe Flash so if you're running Windows Vista x64 (like me), you'll need to run Windows Sidebar under 32-bit. To do that in Windows Vista x64 - just go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Windows Sidebar and execute sidebar.exe from there. Download the People-Ready Fantasy Baseball Gadget here. Another new Gadget to check out is the brand new MSN Video Gadget for Windows Sidebar. The MSN Video Team announced its availability today along with some highlights as to what you can do with the Gadget on their blog. Download the MSN Video Gadget here. Got a Sidebar Gadget recommendation? Would love to hear...
The Live Search Maps Gadget is back!
2008-02-01 10:06:00
Donavon West, whose company LiveGadgets.net was hired by Microsoft to develop the Live Search Maps Gadget originally, has announced via LiveSide that the Live Search Maps gadget is back and available for download! This awesome gadget lets you look at traffic in many different cities. I use this gadget all the time especially when traveling up to Seattle. Donavon says work has been done "under-the-hood" so visually the gadget won't look much different than before. He also says new cities have been added: Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, San Antonio and Toronto. New cities will automatically show up in the Live Search Maps Gadget when they are added going forward. This gadget is a must-have for folks who commute and do quite a bit of traveling.

In order to get started using your brand-new Dell (PRODUCT) RED PC right out of the box, you will need to enable a few things in order for the Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED bits such as the Sidebar Gadgets and Windows DreamScene to run. Halo 3 Gadget using Silverlight for Windows Sidebar
2007-10-27 20:57:00
I just found this awesome gadget for Xbox 360 & Halo 3 owners. Its been developed using Silverlight technology. Lets hope more and more developers start using Silverlight technology in gadget development. "HALO 3 is out and my Xbox is now getting the love it truly deserves.  Multiplayer mode in HALO is a lot of fun and even more fun when you can play with friends.  Thus, a perfect opportunity was born to create a useful sidebar gadget. I've recorded a demo on how the gadget works available on Channel 9 and you can download the gadget directly from my server,  although I will be posting it to the Gadget Gallery shortly. Just make sure that before you run the gadget you install Silverlight 1.0, otherwise the gadget will not work. My data source for Xbox Live information is coming from Duncan Mackenzie's REST service and the UI is done completely in Silverlight 1.0.  This turned out to be a really fun project and the Sidebar hosting environment was a great place for a Si...

Lock the Windows Sidebar
2007-06-21 12:50:00
While the Windows Sidebar is a nice piece of functional eye candy for home users, it can be an administrator's nightmare in a business environment. Having users installing an endless amount of gadgets off of the internet can at the very least waste work time and bandwidth and a worse case scenario would be a security breach. You can limit or eliminate the Windows Sidebar and keep control of what, if any, gadgets are able to run on the users' machines.1. Click the Start Button.2. Click All Programs and select Accessories.3. Click Run.4. Input gpedit.msc and click OK.5. When the UAC prompt appears, click Continue.6. In the left pane, select Computer Configuration and double-click Administrative Templates.7. Double-click Windows Components.8. Select Windows Sidebar.9. In the right pane, select one of the four settings to limit usage of the Windows Sidebar. To enable a setting, double-click the setting and select the Enabled radio button and click OK. The choices are:Override the Mor...
