2008-05-17 07:34:00 The trip that my husband and I took to California’s Wine Country, while short, was jam packed with wonderful meals and memorable winery tours, all of which I have been taking my time to write about. Wine Cork Recycling
2008-05-15 01:00:00 Corks are normally used to seal the freshness of wine bottles before people pop them up for drinking or servings. But once they are taken out, the usual route is for these corks to find their way towards the garbage can or some even keep them for remembrance. But for some people, recycling these used ...

2008-05-13 23:50:00 POSSIBLE FUTURE SECOND LADY MARY PAWLENTY GETTING BETTER WITH AGE The man who is rumored to be atop GOP presidential nominee John McCain’s short list to serve as his running mate has recently earned some “love” from the media for a comment he made about his wife. “I have a wife who genuinely loves to fish. I mean, she will take the lead and ask me to go out fishing, and joyfully comes here,” Minn. Gov. Tim Pawlenty told a Minneapolis-St. Paul radio station, “She loves football, she’ll go to hockey games and, I jokingly say, ‘Now, if I could only get her to have sex with me.’” Being that I had absolutely no idea what Mary Pawlenty looks like, I did what I always do: I Googled it. It turns out — as you can see in the side-by-side pictures above — Mrs. Pawlenty has, umm, changed a bit over the last eight years. And I think most people would agree that it was for the better. Just to be PC here, I’m sure she h...

Learning From The Wine Guy: Wine Library TV’s Gary Vaynerchuk
2008-05-13 09:39:00 Hi Everyone, Receive an email on a new blog post from Rich Schefren at http://www.strategicprofits.com-/blog/gary-vaynerchuk-101-wines--book/ It was about Wine Library TV’s Gary Vaynerchuk. You can read the blog post yourself but I do like pointers that I have taken out of context from Rich’s blog: 1 It’s not about what you’re DOING now. It’s not about what you’re DOING now. It’s about where you’re HEADED… 2 Dream “crazy big” Dream “crazy big” if you want to hit the “big time”… 3 Embrace “the hoopla factor” Embrace “the hoopla factor” and be who you are. Don’t be afraid to do things differently. You don’t have to play in a certain category. You CAN “create a category” instead… 4 Know what’s coming next Get ahead of “the pulse” by getting into the trenches and FINDING the trends yourself. KNOW what’s coming next… 5 Put your chips on your talent. Put your chips on your talent. Reinvest in your company’s talent BEFORE you...

2008-05-11 07:02:00 The Economic Times is reporting that Zampa wines from Valle de vin, Deepak Roy's 35-acre vineyard on the periphery of Nashik. are set to launch soon. Most interesting is the direct response initiative which is the first of its kind in the business. Mr. Roy picked up a select group of wine connoisseurs, about 1,000 of them and sent a miniature wooden cask filled with varietal wines from his vineyard. This followed with a couple of bottles of red and white wines. Mr Roy is heading the Kishore Chhabria group company which produces Officer?s Choice whisky. The rose wine fights back
2008-05-09 09:31:00 [img]http://www.mendozaesvino.c-om.ar/blog/files/821653ss.jpg[/-img] The ros wines can be developed with different methods. The simplest but almost obsolete, is to cut a white wine with a little red wine. However, the technique is the most widely used short maceration. For this technique used grapes inks that after being crushed, the marc remains a short time with the juice, allowing that contact convey colouring matter and organoleptic. The next step is pressing, then fermentation comes just as with a white wine. The maceration lasts from eight to twelve hours. There are different strains of pink wines. In Argentina there are pink Malbec, Bonarda, Syrah, and so on. Elsewhere in the world, or Tempranillo Garnacha. France is the producer of rose wine par excellence, being the most recognized Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon and the Rhone Valley, from which comes one of the most famous Designation of Origin: Tavel. Each country has its vitivinicultor rose wine with specific characteris...

Smart, dead simple wine rack.
2008-05-08 16:20:00 Wine storage can become almost as complicated as space travel. We have some friends who put a lot of work into transforming a basement room into a wine cellar and bodega, complete with wine racks, furniture and lots of candles. Others have fancy wine fridges. Others still, and we find ourselves in this group, would be just fine with a kit like this. Two rubber or plastic wedges that let you stack the bottles on top of each other. It would probably work best if all the bottles are the same kind, so you won't have to rearrange them... It's GBP 4:95 (about USD 9:66) for two.

An Older Dessert Wine
2008-05-08 12:55:00 I found this bottle of dessert wine lurking in the cellar during one of our reorganization projects. I purchased it in 2005 from the Williamsburg Winery in Williamsburg, VA back when I lived down there and was a frequent visitor, particularly to scoop up bottles of the Governor's White! This wine was a 2002 Williamsburg Winery Late Harvest Vidal. I bought it at the winery, it had a real cork closure, clocked in at 11% alcohol by volume, had 13% residual sugar, and I couldn't tell you what I paid, though the current vintage sells for $24.On the nose the wine was sweet, showing honey and apricot. In the mouth, much of the same. It has held up incredibly well over the years, and actually tasted even better than I remember. The color had also intensified, though I can't find the picture of it that I took for you. Given how well it's drinking now, but also taking into consideration that it still had a nice backbone, I'd say this one still has some life for aging in it. I will a...

Wine, cheese and Fit Finlay
2008-05-06 01:45:00 David Fit Finlay is like a fine wine or a select piece of cheddar cheese. He simply gets better with age. Finlay, 49, is one of the top stars on the WWE roster. When pondering wrestlers who made an impact over the long haul, Finlay does not come to mind, but he should. Andre, Flair, Hogan, Mascaras and Taker spent many years entertaining fans. Not to say Finlay is on par with them, but he has lasting power nationally and internationally, and that's not an easy thing to do, especially in a depleted overall industry. Finlay celebrates his 34th year in the business, spending most of it overseas, which is probably the reason for the snub...More?source: miamiherald.com

Wine In Moderation Does The Body Good
2008-05-06 00:26:00 Gary Vaynerchuk (VAY NER CHUK), a 32 year old self-trained wine expert who is revolutionizing the wine industry. His webcast, The Thunder Show, on WineLibrary attracts over 60,000 viewers each day and his email queue typically holds 1,000 messages from obsessed fans, self-named “Vayniacs." Gary’s cult-like following is the result of his unconventional, often irreverent commentary on wine. He routinely pans popular wines (even ones he sells at his 3-story New Jersey store, Wine Library). He interrupts his webcasts with rants about his beloved New York Jets. This is not your typical wine expert. As the youngest winner of Marketwatch’s Business Award, Market Watch Leader at 27 and his first book coming out this spring--101 Wines Guaranteed To Inspire, Delight, and Bring Thunder To Your World, Gary Vaynerchuk is an icon in his industry. In addition to stellar “street cred” among his fans, Gary is also highly respected in the wine industry and the corpo...

Climate Change Could Affect Burgundy Wine
2008-05-05 15:22:00 The affects of climate change is causing concern across the world and it seems that France is no exception.Last week, scientific experts gathered at the University of Burgundy in Dijon to discuss the effect that global warming could have on France's wine growing regions. One claimed that the changes would be so pronounced that by the end of the century it would be possible to grow Syrah grapes as far north as Champagne.Yet concerns have been raised that many parts of France, including the famous Burgundy region, could get too hot to grow grapes for wine.Burgundy celebrates its love of wine But it looks like for this year at least, the French wine industry is as booming as ever with Burgundy locals looking forward to a number of wine related events for 2007.Two that are set to prove particularly popular with both visitors and locals alike are the traditional Beaujolais Nouveau celebrations held in November and the Chablis Wine Festival which takes place in the same month. The former i...
Zinfandel Wine Event, Chicago - May 20
2008-05-04 21:49:00 I can't wait!!! I am so excited for the many winemakers who will be making an appearance in Chicago at ZAP's Zinfandel's Grand Tasting at The Mid-America Club. Zinfande-ls from many of California’s growing regions will be featured and certainly tasted! I can't wait to meet face to face with winemakers and winery owners from 30 ZAP member wineries. Of course, I will have many important questions answered such as: Where does Zinfandel grow best? What are the characteristics of Zinfandel grown in the different areas? How do you best match Zinfandel with food? But, most importantly I will be testing and tasting these great wines to see what stacks up the best. I will certainly share my findings with you after this event. But, if you can make it, please join me on May 20, from 6:30-8:30 PM to get many of your "need-to-know" Zinfandel questions answered. Tickets are available here.

Ramey Wine Cellars wine tasting
2008-05-04 06:16:00 Saturday we went to our local wine store, Capitol Cellars in Roseville, for a Ramey Wine Cellars tasting. Five wines were poured, and to my excitement they tasted one of my favorite Napa Valley wines, the Ramey Jericho Canyon Vineyard. But let's stat at the beginning...First to be poured was the 2006 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay ($39). A round chardonnay with tropical fruit, creamy lemon, cooked apple and oak notes, with good acidity. A good start indeed with nice acidity backing up the fruit and oak.Next was the 2006 Russian River Valley Chardonnay ($39). This wine had some more complexity to it and was fitting my palate better with tropical fruit, citrus, white floral, and again the slightly buttery oak. Good acidity balance the fruit and makes it complex, and refreshing/crisp, at the same time. The third wine was one of their vineyard designated Chardonnays, the 2006 Hyde Vineyard ($61). This chardonnay was the most multifaceted of the three. It shows tropical fruit, white floral, pin...

Mondavi's Continuum. A wine to savor
2008-05-03 03:04:00 Yesterday, my brother-in-law introduced me to Continuum. The new wine from Robert, Marcia and Tim Mondavi. And it was a unique experience not just because the wine was special (and rather expensive at $130 a bottle) but also because it marks a new beginning for an iconic wine family. As many of you may know, Robert Mondavi is something of a living, albeit tragic legend in Napa Valley and wine circles around the world. The Mondavi Winery which was established in 1966 grew to be one of the biggest and most reputable of Napa Valley wine brands in a short thirty year period.
