Wines Shifting to Cardboard Tubes
2008-12-19 21:52:00 Corks were known to seal in the freshness of wine over the years but wine makers shifted towards plastic corks to somehow jazz up wine a bit, particularly to open them easier outside the cork popping hardships that would require people have a trusty cork screw in hand to open them. While the intent was ...

Monty Python on Aussie wines
2008-08-07 21:05:00 A lot of people in this country pooh-pooh Australian table wines. This is a pity, as many fine Australian wines appeal not only to the Australian palette, but also to the cognoscenti of Great Britain. "Black Stump Bordeaux" is rightly praised as a peppermint flavoured Burgundy, whilst a good "Sydney Syrup" can rank with any of the world's best sugary wines. "Chateau Bleu", too, has won many prizes; not least for its taste, and its lingering afterburn. "Old Smokey, 1968" has been compared favourably to a Welsh claret, whilst the Australian wino society thoroughly recommends a 1970 "Coq du Rod Laver", which, believe me, has a kick on it like a mule: 8 bottles of this, and you're really finished -- at the opening of the Sydney Bridge Club, they were fishing them out of the main sewers every half an hour. Of the sparkling wines, the most famous is "Perth Pink". This is a bottle with a message in, and the message is BEWARE!. This is not a wine for drinking -- this is a wine for lay...

Psychology tricks and increased spending ? The Case of Expensive Wines
2008-05-31 14:10:00 Our psychology is terribly easy to trick. We?re actually pretty good at it ourselvesIn each and every day of our lives we are bombarded with psychological tricks and quirks which have one goal: Make us spend more.Advertisements take many forms and influence us both at a conscious and a subconscious level. However, every now and then a consumer research appears. It?s always rare, small and hard to find due to certain conflicting interests of the media but they always teach us valuable lessons. This time the NY Times (Arik Asimov) gets the credit for giving a stage to a new research on the American wine consumer which I find fascinating.Wine connoisseurs and the image of the Nuevo richWine is probably the drink most associated with good living, refined palate and the upper classes (we?ll discuss associations in advertising in the near future). There are reasons why wine is portrayed and marketed as such a complicated product with infinite grape types, vineyards, years of aging, complic...

Alba Wines Exhibition: prime impressioni su Roero e Barbaresco
Wine In Moderation Does The Body Good
2008-05-06 00:26:00 Gary Vaynerchuk (VAY NER CHUK), a 32 year old self-trained wine expert who is revolutionizing the wine industry. His webcast, The Thunder Show, on WineLibrary attracts over 60,000 viewers each day and his email queue typically holds 1,000 messages from obsessed fans, self-named “Vayniacs." Gary’s cult-like following is the result of his unconventional, often irreverent commentary on wine. He routinely pans popular wines (even ones he sells at his 3-story New Jersey store, Wine Library). He interrupts his webcasts with rants about his beloved New York Jets. This is not your typical wine expert. As the youngest winner of Marketwatch’s Business Award, Market Watch Leader at 27 and his first book coming out this spring--101 Wines Guaranteed To Inspire, Delight, and Bring Thunder To Your World, Gary Vaynerchuk is an icon in his industry. In addition to stellar “street cred” among his fans, Gary is also highly respected in the wine industry and the corpo...

Keep your best wines in a cellar online
2008-05-04 07:12:00 [img]http://www.mendozaesvino.c-om.ar/blog/files/818900.jpg[/im-g] Have you ever you went from uncorking a very good wine that came keeping long for a special occasion, and then when you opened was chopped? Save good wines at home is not an easy task, if the aim is to preserve them for a long time. It takes a specially conditioned space (if a basement, the better) where the temperature is kept between 12 degrees and 14 degrees and humidity of 85% remain unchanged, something that is not so easy to get. Therefore, to maintain these conditions unchanged, a Spanish company offers a service care in champagne wines, which can be administered via computer. The company Pinkleton Wine and is responsible for retaining 700 bottles of 30 customers, who pay between 50 and 150 dollars a month according to how many bottles to observe and time of delivery, according to the newspaper Cinco Dias slogan. Each client can, through the website of the company, manage their private digs, maintain records ...

Meeting New Wines
2008-05-01 13:57:00 On our second day in Sonoma, we were lucky enough, as I've mentioned before, to have Patrick of Iridesse Wines showing us around. The second stop of the day was to a group of wineries who share space in the same building complex that I likely would never have found without his guidance. We had intended to go to several of the wineries in the space, but after the first, got a phone call and took a detour for a private tasting over at Michel Schlumberger. Prior to knowing of our detour, Patrick directed Matt, Russ, and I into Camellia Cellars to taste some excellent wines, where we also got to meet the owner! We tasted through their whole line up (and more, including some wine that won't be released until this fall and came away very happy!2007 First Kiss: $22, Proprietor's Blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, and Viognier, 12.7% alcohol by volume. Rolling 2004 Cabernet-Merlot Australia
2008-04-23 02:59:00 It?s a wine that could go either way as far as sipping vs. dinner. Enough taste to enjoy, enough acidity/tannins for a dinner of your choice. And it?s a wine better than the Chardonnay version. read more
Gala Rouge 2006 Pinot Noir France
2008-04-21 23:31:00 It?s biggest failing is, except for the tannins and acidity, a certain lack of intensity for this wine. Good for dinner, but probably not really for sipping. Better choices might be the 2006 Pizza Vino, the 2005 Lorval, the 2005 Tortoise Creek and the 2006 Arrow Creek. One from Calinfornia, the rest from France. read more
Rolling 2005 Chardonnay Australia
2008-04-21 00:41:00 Well, Rolling does exactly that. It rolls, but mostly downhill. A wine that?s better suited to dinner (just barely) than sipping (just barely). It?s one wine you might skip, as there are other better choices out there. read more

2008-04-12 06:01:00 ND Wines was launched in Maharashtra recently. This marks the 13th state in India where they have a presence. As Manik Patil pointed out to the Indian Express, Maharashtra is a good state to launch a domestic wine as licenses are more easily available. Duties are also lower in the state. ND Wines will be selling its Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. These wines were launched in Delhi last November. ND Wines are produced under the direction of French wine maker Mr. Jean Manual Jacquinot.

International Stories Wine Spectator explains that Allegrini is withdrawing Wine from DOC over Screw Cap. Petit Bistro 2005 Pinot Noir France
2008-04-11 21:48:00 As ten dollar wines go, this one isn?t bad. It?s a bit short to nonexistent on the aroma department but pretty dependable otherwise. A wine that?s OK for sipping and maybe a light dinner too. read more
Redwood Creek 2006 Pinot Noir France
2008-04-10 23:23:00 Redwood Creek? France? You know, I?m seeing more and more of this. French wines with American names. Shouldn?t Napa Valley protest to the International Trade Commission over this? We can?t call our sparkling wines Champagne. Why should they get to use American names for their wines? And it?s a somewhat pedestrian wine that is best suited for dinner than for sipping. read more
