In Other Words: Builders
2008-07-22 07:48:00
Afew days ago,  I had this converation with my five year old daughter at the laundry line: Daughter:  “Mama, when I am a mom, can I tell my kids what to do?” Me:  “Yes honey.”    slight pause . . . Daughter:  “When I am a mama, I am going to let my kids have a popsicle whenever they want.”  Me:  “Really?” (not knowing what to say . . . and another longer pause.) Daughter: “Mama? . . . can I have a popsicle now?” Me (knowing I would win the meanest mom award of the day): “No honey, your room is still not cleaned up.”    Daughter leaves with a long sigh.  It didn’t work.  But my husband and I sure got a chuckle out of it . . . one of those treasured little moments we tuck away in our hearts and will hopefully remember when she is a mama. (But then “I” will be the grandma and give her children popsicles whenever they want!) As moms we have a lot of building to do.  I am in the p...

The quote she has chosen is:   “We, as women, think of ourselves as mothers, teachers, nurses and so on, but God says that we are builders. We usually relegate this role to the men, but we are building with something far greater than brick and timber.”  By Nancy Campbell, The Power of Motherhood: What the Bible Says About Mothers
In Other Words: Peer Pressure
2008-07-15 16:44:00
Peer pressure - it’s not just a  kid thing.  How often are we sucked into it, to please others, to be like others, to follow others ideals of what godliness is rather than what God wants us to do.  As women we can easily fall into it, with what to wear or not wear, to wear make-up or not, to have our hair a certain length, to cook only wholesome all natural food (despite our husbands wanting porkchops on the grill), etc.  Some of you may remember the Gentle Spirit Magazine from over ten years ago that captivated many women’s hearts and ideals to follow.  It was easy to pour more over that magazine and follow a woman’s thoughts of her desires, rather than to follow God, and what disappointment it was when the failings and sins of the author became public. It was an awakening that any person can fail us -yet it can be so tempting to follow man rather than God. It’s not just the people we look up to, but our friends that walk close beside us or others wi...

In Other Words: Sharing Paths
2008-07-08 04:01:00
Quote by Henry T. Blackaby & Richard Blackaby from their devotional book, Experiencing God The one word question “WHY?” has escaped my thoughts more than I can count.  Many of the why’s will not be answered until I reach heaven - and then, I doubt it will really matter.  But some why’s seem a little more fulfilled, when we see how we can use our pain, to help others.  A few weeks ago, it happened again, as we gasped out loud to read in the paper, that friends of ours, who are grandparents, lost their first and only grandchild.  The grandfather is also our dentist.  We saw the ultrasound pictures in his office, and the newborn pictures after his grandson was born.  I would often run into his wife at the store or Good Will and was shown the newest item for her little grandson and see the delight in her face as she spoke of a smiling happy baby.  How we wished the death notice we read was not their grandson, but tragically it was.  He was only 12 w...
Obamas Own Words May Spell Trouble For Him
2008-07-06 13:14:00
For audio of Obama saying some very troubling things listen HERE.This from Politico:I think the audio version makes a much more immediate impact? than the print version of his memoir, said conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt, who?s already played audio excerpts from the book on his syndicated radio show. ?It turns out to be very jarring to many ears to hear Obama talking about his youthful adventures, his attitudes on race.?In ?Dreams from My Father,? Obama tells the story of his multi-racial background, childhood in Hawaii and Indonesia, college career in Los Angeles and New York, and years as a community organizer in Chicago, before entering Harvard Law School in 1988. The abridged audio version was released in May 2005 after Obama entered the Senate and was already being mentioned as a presidential candidate. It won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album.?Dreams from My Father? has been widely acclaimed as an introspective and insightful read far from the anodyne ca...

Words To Live By (Mostly)

The New York Times published some excerpts here from graduation commencement speeches on Sunday June 15th, and though I should have gotten to it long before now, I?d like to bring you some excerpts that I thought were particularly good (something to think about as we head into the holiday weekend; I found them to be interesting and uplifting but for one rather obvious exception).Gavin NewsomMayor of San FranciscoSan Francisco State UniversityWhat is the secret of all success? Winston Churchill, he said it was moving from failure to failure with enthusiasm. ...Guys like Elvis Presley and Michael Jordan, Dr. Seuss, Henry Ford ? if you don?t know him you probably drive one of his automobiles ? all of them had failure in common.Jordan was literally rejected from his high school basketball team. Michael Jordan wasn?t good enough. That guy Churchill finished last in his class. ... Henry Ford went bankrupt not once, not twice ? three, four, five times went bankrupt. Dr. Seuss tried to publ...
In Other Words ~ His Plans
2008-07-01 04:14:00
This has been one of those “hang on to” verses through the ups and downs of life.  But it became more real to me through a recent Bible study of Abraham.  There’s so much I could share that touched me but re-visiting Abraham’s life, seeing the mistakes he made, and yet, seeing God stay with His covenant with him. God did indeed know the plans He had for him, and it was certainly to take care of him.  And He did for us way back then too as we see the imprint of the coming of Jesus, His death on the cross, through Abraham.  The picture of Abraham’s son, Isaac carrying the wood of the sacrifice up Mt. Moriah is an image of Jesus carrying wood, the cross on His back.  The ram caught in the thicket was not the real sacrifice.  It took place later.  It was instead the Lamb of God, God’s son, not Abraham’s son.  Yet Jesus know that His sacrifice would cost His life - and His sacrifice accomplished what no other kind of sacrifice could even come cl...

China Banking: I Have Two Words For You.
2008-06-25 06:32:00
A year or so ago, I was talking with a good friend of mine who has a fairly high level position with one of the big American banks that has spent huge money buying into Chinese banks. I was saying I could not understand why American banks were so willing to put so much into China's banks, particularly when it would be impossible to achieve any sort of clarity regarding their bad loan risks. (Please note this was before the sub-prime mess and so I at that point actually viewed banks as generally somewhat conservative with their money). His response was, "Dan, I have two words for you: credit cards." Yes, I thought. The Shanghai Daily reports that the number of credit cards in China has nearly doubled in the past year. Nearly doubled. Had my friend been a bit more literary and succinct, he would have said, "Dan, I have one word for you: plastic. [video]"
In Other Words: Perseverance
2008-06-24 22:29:00
P erseverance - it’s a pretty big word - that takes a lot of work. For a preemie baby it may be learning how to nurse, and a persevering mother to keep on trying.  For a toddler, it’s learning how to walk and a five year old learning how to tie his shoes.  As we get older, it’s persevering through algebra, driving, marriage and parenthood.  It’s persevering through daily struggles and major life alterations.  For a dear family we know, it’s now persevering through much grief and pain after the loss of their 12 week old son/grandson from SIDS.  They have much to persevere through as each day right now is a struggle.  Their friends and family need to persevere to carry them along and continuing to pray for them. Perseverance and can be a long lonely walk through the valley of the shadow of death and can be much slower than a snail’s pace to the ark.  It may be perseverance just to get up in the morning and face another day.    As m...

I came across a soldiers blog couple of months ago. I have been reading it ever since something about his words has totally touched me. On so many levels that I cannot even explain it with a word. All I know is that I care about this soldier in this blog he is such a hero and so smart. It puts life in prospective and focus to be better person. Something about reading it changed me it has really opened my mind and heart to things that are important in life. It has made me rethink with writing my blog and adding more about important issues. To write about this that has more meaning.
Many Search Engines Gone, Once Was So Many Could Not Even Count Them All, N
2008-06-10 07:13:00
I was submitting my blog to search engines it got me thinking about search engines of the past. Thought about how many search engines was just few years ago now there is mainly just three Google, Yahoo and MSN. The number of search engines once was so many could not even count them all. Now mainly the bigger companies left that power most of the searches on the net. Internet changes so fast.Even with few small search engines still left are not as popular or as powerful those main three. All those search engines probably was a persons dream to create them. Then now having to sell it to a bigger company or to be powered by or now is out of business completely. Anything is possible in life a new search engine could come to be more powerful then them all. It just takes a good idea and a dream with creating a search engine and in life too. - Search Engine Marketing - Get Yahoo! Sponsored Search

In Other Words: Think On These Things
2008-06-10 00:10:00
Ican be one of those day dreamers - giving myself panic attacks thinking of the “what ifs”.  It happened a few days ago.  My husband is self-employed as a small engine repair mechanic.  Several times he has breathed too much exhaust, giving himself carbon monoxide poisoning.   He puts larger garden/lawn tractors on hoists, which he’s never had fall on him, yet, but I fear it.  His days can be busy with with phone calls, sales reps visits, customers coming to drop off/pick up items and his runnings about with pick-ups and deliveries and getting parts.  He will work very late at night in the shop on repairs.  There’s been several times I’ve fallen asleep hours before him to wake-up and he’s still not in bed.  That night, I woke up with a jolt - where was he?  I was so stricken with fear, afraid to call him on the speaker, so I walked out there, fearing the worst, holding my breath as I peered around the door.  He was fine, thankfull...
My Wish is to Be in Love Right Now in My Life, I Could Wish For A Winning M
2008-06-09 20:51:00
Someone told me today wishes can come true just have to wish for them. What this post is about making is a wish and hoping it will come true. So many things I could wish for a winning million dollar lottery ticket. I have been thinking about so many things and realizing so much at this moment today. I wonder if I will ever have that special love in my life. Maybe I am just one of those people that will never get to experience that. Out of everything I ever really wanted in my life is to be in love just once. To know what a real kiss feels like to know someone wants to be with me. Know what making love to someone instead of just having sex. To have someone to slow dance with to a love song. I know crazy when are so many other things I could want or wish for in my life. My wish is to be in love right now in my life. But what I want most of all out everything I could ask for in life I want this one thing most of all. To know what it feels like to be in love and to have someone in love ...
Why Attraction to Guys in Bands, Jealous Girlfriends, Sometimes a Guy is Ju
2008-06-09 19:11:00
What I have learned this weekend is love sometimes is not enough. Having chemistry is just chemistry. Sometimes an inner connection with someone is just a connection that is it. Sometimes music is just music and sometimes a song is just a song. Sometimes a guy is just a guy in a band who knows how to sing better than others. A sign for me to notice this guy in the band is just a sign. I don?t know why there is such an attraction to them maybe it is because everyone else wants them too it is a competition thing. I see how woman can fall for guys in bands. I try not to get caught up in the attraction of that but try to see special things in people. I think I just saw something special this young guy in a band in a way saw more in him that just a guy in band. I saw such a talent that deserves to be discovered. I realize after the weekend his new girlfriend told me stop talking to him. Then told me stop going to gigs, I don?t want to cause any problems with anyone. I didn?t even know I...

but do your words "The latest asshole to storm Blogdonia" reflect the mind of Christ?I don't presume to know the mind of Christ, and I am amazed anyone seriously does. I'm Catholic, and we have committees to deal with all of that stuff. You'll have to ask the Magisterium! (I hear it can be pretty rough to schedule an appointment, though.)I didn't condemn Rachel Moss to hell and do not judge her soul or anyone else's. I judge her ACTS, as a jury similarly judges ACTS, and I say: guilty of assholism. (And I'm probably not going to contribute to the blog carnival, if it makes you feel any better. I was doing the commercial for friends of mine who are organizing it.)

GOP Using Democrats Own Words Against Obama
2008-06-04 14:48:00
Would this be considered being hoist on their own petard? (CNN) Hours before the polls closed Tuesday in the final two Democratic presidential primaries, the Republican National Committee began circulating a video of Hillary Clinton questioning Barack Obama’s qualifications to be commander-in-chief, and acknowledging John McCain has this important presidential credential. “Senator McCain will bring a lifetime of experience to the campaign, I will bring a lifetime of experience and Senator Obama will bring a speech that he gave in 2002,” Clinton says in the one-minute video of CNN’s coverage of a news conference she held on March 8 – the day Obama won the Wyoming caucuses. “I think that is a significant difference. I think that since we now know Senator McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. The RNC states they will continue to use the words of Hillary, and surely other Democrats,...
Barack Obama Will Be The Democrat Candidate, Hillary Clinton, Both Made His
2008-06-04 13:18:00
Well it looks like Barack Obama will be the democrat candidate. I like both Hillary Clinton and him very much. Now if they would come together on the same ticket it would be so great. Either way they both have earned my respect and both made history. Made it possible for future generations about being president. I have watched this since the beginning. This is the election that I have learned the most from this process. It is one the most exciting presidential races in my lifetime so far. I will never forget this election that is for sure because of it being so historic.
Two Words That Drive Your Anxiety.....
2008-06-04 12:33:00
If you suffer from general anxiety you may find yourself saying things like: "What if I get cancer?", "What if my partner is falling out of love with me?", "What if I say something and look like an idiot?", "What if I can't meet that deadline at work?","What if I mess up that presentation?", "What if...?" All these "what ifs...?" keep anxiety stoked. When you are worrying or anxious there is a stream of these "what if...?" thoughts. So, what to do? Well there are a number of methods you can use. But I'll teach you a very simple one you can begin using today, quickly and easily. It's a two step process... 1. Become Aware. Usually these "what if...?" thoughts happen so automatically and naturally they barely register in your conscious mind, you get caught up in a sort of day-dream, or should that be day-mare! So the first step is to become *aware* of when you are caught up in the "what if...?" process. Just notice, and be aware. 2. So what...? When you become aware that you're...

I'm excited to join the fourth annual Blogblast For Peace, which began as a simple post by Mimi from Mimi Writes in the fall of 2006. The message Mimi sent in her first post "Dona Nobis Pacem" Latin for "Grant Us Peace" has traveled from blog to blog reaching 35 countries and 46 states, an amazing accomplishment, that makes you feel warm all over. And today, I'll be jumping on this train carrying " A Revolution of Words" with other bloggers throughout the blogosphere. Together we'' ll have our Peace globes posted along with our favorite words about what peace means to each of us individually- One of my favorite writers, Ralph Waldo Emerson, summed the idea of peace up nicely for me, when he wrote of a way for an individual to contribute to the harmony in the world, he said,"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. Why Does Life Have to Be So Hard, It Is Just Me Complaining, but Glad to He
2008-06-03 10:45:00
Everyone around here is low on money, losing jobs. Now I am finally getting my life together saving money and doing well. I thought I could finally move on with my life. I find myself having to help people around here. So again, I feel like I have to put my life on hold to help others in my life like always. Why does life have to be so hard when something good happens something stressful is right behind that happening. Sorry for this post but it is just me complaining that why does life have to be so hard. I need a money miracle to happen.
