2007-12-31 00:31:00 This is a work that I am doing onPastelmat from Clairefontaine.Its dimensions are 18 cm x 24 cm and the medium issoft pastels, including some pencils.Pastelmat is a sanded smooth paper, permiting good detail,vivid colours and a reasonable number of layers; not many though.On this paper, one has to carefuly plan ahead since layers influencethe upper ones (unless using a pastel with good covering power).This can be good or bad, depending on ones intentions.Blending with fingers is practically inobtainable on first layers.I advise not to start with the really soft ones, unless that isthe colour to keep or that you won't add much more on top of it.Concluding I would say that this paper deserves a try.Second stage and practically finished.Now it's time to give it a rest and we'll see whatI may add in the future.And after reading some opinions, I've finished it.

WORK IN PROGRESS: ANATOMY OF A WINDOW DISPLAY
2007-09-25 17:53:00 I've been asked to create a window display for Canada's finest comic book store THE BEGUILING, to promote my upcoming graphic novel, Ghost Stories. I thought I'd upload pics of the project from it's inception to the final window. So, to start, here is my rough sketch for the window.It will be a winter scene, with my main character Lou Lebeuf standing in a snowbank watching childhood versions of himself and his brother playing pond hockey, with a nice forest behind. The kids will look like cut-out "table hockey players". I want it to have a real 3-D feel like the set from a stage play. There are also a number of irregular sized smaller windows surrounding the main window, which I will fill with character shots and the three cover images from my Essex County books.

The poor folk went to Dr. Bilodeau, and he was a mean drunk who loved to inflict pain. I learned that firsthand. I know because when I was eleven I was playing in the woods with Timmy Kafejelis. Playing in the woods is defined as raising holy hell. I think that was the summer we set fires. We would swipe some kitchen matches and go out walking, and flick lit matches into the underbrush for kicks, and keep walking. Whoever cracked first would go back and frantically stomp out the spreading blaze. This person would then be called Pussy for the rest of the day, or until blows were thrown. O's Cabrera a Work In Progress
2007-08-21 21:33:00 How do you guys feel about Daniel Cabrera? I love his Ks and his potential, but I usually strive for consistency. James James, There?s no denying Cabrera has electric stuff, but consistent he is not! The walks are still a major problem, and in Cabrera?s four big league seasons, his walk rate hasn?t gotten much better. This year, Daniel?s actually posting the best BB/9 rate of his career. That?s not saying much considering it?s 4.7! As long as this trend continues, I?d stay away from Cabrera for fantasy purposes. He remains nothing more than a speculative late round draft pick. He may eventually put it all together, but let another owner take that gamble. Get your strikeouts from someone else. For the time being, banking on Cabrera isn?t worth it. Zach Steinhorn, MLB.com
