A word on staffing and workload
2008-03-03 04:51:00
There are days when I feel like a rat on a sinking ship. Today was one of them. I was floated to the floors again today. Normally I don’t mind, but this is my fourth different assignment in five straight days and some consistency would be nice. Adding to my woes, I went out the gate this ...
Falling Behind on Your Workload?
2008-02-07 11:00:00
Are you falling behind on your work? Do you feel that too many people are coming to you and overloading your workload?   This happens to me from time to time. Since I am an administrative assistant for 30 staff, which includes 6 managers, it can get a little hectic at times.   Imagine at times that you are bored out of your mind, going around to other staff members asking for work. Then there are times when everyone is coming to you for something all at the same time. This is how it usually goes in any office.   But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. One of the best ways to combat this is to schedule a meeting with your boss to discuss how this can be tackled in a productive way.   Here are some to-do tips before you head into the meeting:   Create a list of all of the main tasks that you are doing. Don't write each task out, but summarize them into main groups.  Think of ways you can help manage the wor...

Some thoughts about player conditions, training workload and rotation
2007-12-12 16:17:00
Let?s consider Player Condition value: ? From 95 to 100 - player will play the entire match at a speed limit. ? 90-95- usually player is enough for 2 times, but can be tired during extra time in cup games. ? 80-90- he is enough for 45-75 minutes. Such player should be better on a substitution bench. ? Below 70 ? a player should not appear on the substitution bench even. Such players will be not able to help the team. Normally there are problems with physics at the beginning and the end of the season. If in the middle of the season problems remain, it is time to review the training schedule. A rotation, of course, is necessary, if you do not want to have a tired team at the end of the season. Try to use the principle which Rafa Benitez uses in the real life with his Liverpool. Rotate the first squad every next match!

The Second Waltz

A second classical piece i fell in love with whilst studying.Updates are going to be scant this couple of days. I have been studying madly; i think realizing that there is no way i can continue on my procrastination and expecting to pass is ridiculous, helps.Went to the State Library to study today. 5 solid hours of classical music blasted over my iPod. I must say classical music does encourage one to study, something about the music and brain waves (i read an article about it before).Anyhow, i got to run. Have got a physical examination practice with friends tomorrow and 3 weeks of notes to complete by midnight!P/S: My return ticket back to Singapore has been confirmed on the 9 of July. I will be set to return home if i am able to secure a ticket from Singapore to Melbourne on the 13 of July. Am supposed to be purchasing the ticket online now, but i have no time. Need to resume my viral studies. Hahaha.
One more thing...

And i know the reason why i am feeling so miserable is because of the many guilt trips i have pulled on myself. And unless you are born heartless; if you are placed in a situation like mine, you will forever be under the admonishment of your conscience. Not until you free up some time. And who are you kidding right? We are talking about med school here.Time is not something we can negotiate. Take it or leave it.Period.And i always thought that time is in your grasp. You control time, you create time. But honestly, certain circumstances are not as kind one thinks.I am thankful for good-hearted friends. But many times i feel like stabbing myself (figuratively of course, in case you think i am hell-bent on the path of self-mutilation, considering the wounds i have sustained) because i cannot express my gratitude, not unless i have more time to translate my appreciation into action. And since time is not a luxury i can afford, all these guilt gradually manifests itself as anger and frustr...
Working without any reward
2007-05-16 16:07:00
Medicine is the only field of study where you can spend the whole day at your desk studying incredibly hard, and you get through a lot of material but at the end of it all, you are still as frustrated, or maybe more, and the anger just hits you in the head and the heart because there is a whole pile more of information waiting to be assimilated. And so it becomes a vicious cycle - trying to motivate oneself to study, but it is mostly in vain, because at the bottom of your heart, you know that it is just not possible to remember all the stuff they are trying to cram into us.What can we really say then? It's a couple of minutes past midnight. I am going to turn in for the night. I will get less than 8 hours' sleep tonight again, 7, if i am lucky. I need to rise early to get through 6 clinical examinations in preparation for my 10am tutorial. I was going to do it today, but my pile of tutorials took longer than i expected. Never mind the laments now, i am done with them. One weary step...
The amount of reading we have to do
2007-05-11 16:45:00
Been trying to reduce my backlog of tutorial work. Everyone has been quite aghast at the amount of tute work i have left undone. Right now, i am hovering somewhere in the middle of my pile of work. I have got another 7 weeks more tute work to slog through. It's crazy, wading through all those journal articles, textbooks and notes.I met up with Sapphire yesterday. We were hanging out at the Gloria Jeans in Borders, and just could not bear to bring ourselves to read another book. In the end we settled for some tabloid magazines, though i am not sure whether that was really a good way for my brain to destress. Somehow, with all the thrash gossip, i thought i felt my brain shrivel up a little. Haha.Anyhow, took a couple of shots of my the scenes when i was studying. Was experimenting with normal, B&W and sepia photos.
The workload was a killer, the heat intense
2007-05-10 14:35:00
"I came from the Georges Creek coal-mining region of western Maryland. Every male member of my family began his working life as a miner. I remember my father being on a number of bitter strikes because the fight over wages and safe working conditions was an every-day struggle."I graduated from high school in 1930 at the height of the Great Depression. After three years of looking I finally got hired as a spinner in the Celanese Corporation's huge rayon plant near Cumberland, Maryland."Working conditions were brutal. A 56-hour week with even more forced overtime - all for a straight-time wage of twenty-two-and-a-half cents an hour. The workload was a killer, the heat intense and the air badly polluted."A substantial minority of Celanese workers came from union families, mainly coal miners and railroad workers. So it wasn't very long before we began talking union. By 1936, after three year's of intense struggle that included several plant-wide strikes and a number of sit-downs, we ...

Test is in less than 10 hours. Barely through a quarter of the stuff i am supposed to be assimilating, but i am beyond that point. Not intending to study half the shit i am supposed to know.Right now, i am trying to tune in to the lecture recordings for my Health Practice module, and the recordings better be in fine order.Maybe, a good starting point is to start printing out all the required notes first.Oh wait, i should ask someone exactly which weeks' work are being examined.*Slaps forehead*
Daxter's play antics
2007-04-17 06:55:00
Just for entertainment, this was a video i recorded on my Kodak camera when we went on a short vacation trip to the countryside. It is of Daxter's playing with a moth. Lots of insects in the countryside, perfect for the dogs to meddle around. And yup, we were watching Prison Break, hence the soundtrack. I will post about my countryside trip soon, but i have been busy this week. In fact i had a panic attack yesterday during my tutorial because i realized the seriousness of how far behind i am in my workload. So i skipped all my lectures this week to stay home to do some serious mugging. As for the burn on my thigh, i popped by the doctor yesterday. All is well but i was put on antibiotics just in case i develop an infection. And the antibiotics are horrible. They are huge and they bloody stink. I am poorly compliant when it comes to medications; already i have forgotten to take 2 out of my 3 dosages. Hahaha. I am also using a Vitamin E oil to try to reduce the redness of the scar. Bo...

Tiara just took the dogs out for a walk. I can't take them out because of my workload.Times like this, i really feel quite irritated.Sometimes i do wonder whether it is worth it, to dedicate so much of my life to a line of work that i am not even sure will return a similar amount of fulfillment or not.
Glass life
2007-03-31 09:29:00
A lot has happened in the past few days. I was basically nursing a God damn headache for several nights in a row, and just giving up and curling in bed.My mobile phone and my wireless internet chose to ditch me simultaneously for 2 days. I had urgent texts to send, and i can't do it using my phone and i can't use the internet to send a text either. It was infuriating. So much so, i was on literally on the verge of hurling my Motorola phone to the ground and smashing my Fujitsu laptop down the stairs, with no heed of the consequences whatsoever.Getting so worked up resulted in a throbbing headache because i could find no other outlets to calm my raging temper that was building up internally. Fortunately, i did not lose all rationality, and opted to go to bed at 7pm.But it ain't these 2 trivial matters that had me in a bad mood for the couple of days.I had a tutorial, one on breast examinations, where real women volunteered to let us examine them. Except, i was not very comfortable...
