Mang Fred shares his World Vision
2008-03-01 17:07:00
UA&P: Feature Friday Mang Fred: a man with a vision by Contagious KrisAlmost every student in UA&P knows or is at least familiar with Mang Fred. For our bloggers who don’t know him, Mang Fred is our university’s technical equipment custodian who makes sure that all of our equipment especially the LCD projectors are kept safely and are working properly. Ask any graduate from UA&P and he/she definitely knows Mang Fred. He is certainly an icon of our university not only because he makes our learning life easier but also because he is our like our “tatay” (father) as well. It seems to me that he knows each student’s struggles and advises them once in a while on how to deal with difficult teachers. Each one of us has a story to share about Mang Fred. I for myself consider Mang Fred as my hero and my reliable partner in IMC. I will never forget my first ever pitch as a junior in our Marketing Management class. I guess it was the moment when I formally became friends w...

World Vision Fights the Slave Trade
2008-02-03 21:13:00
We've been World Vision participants for quite some time now, and I'm very happy to discover this new branch. This issue is very close to my heart. The CIA estimates that there are currently between 100,000 - 200,000 trafficked persons in the United States alone. I have been learning more about this issue, and recommend the fictional movie "Trade" for people who may want to learn more.
World Vision

Today, I had the honor of leading worship for World Vision at their chapel service. It was quite an experience and the set went really well. They had planned a great service to start the year in reflection, prayer, worship and scripture. Stacy, one of the vocalists at the Georgetown location of NCC, works for World Vision and sang with me. Their facility on I Street NE is awesome! The colors are wonderful and there are scriptures and other positive messages on almost every wall. It is always fun to get out of the NCC office for an hour and experience something different—especially seeing another ministry and have a few brief moments immersed in their culture. I met many friendly people and enjoyed hearing testimonies of how God is at work through World Vision.

Author: Eric Subject: World Vision Convoy Ambushed in DarfurPosted: Sun Sep 23, 2007 2:05 pm (GMT -4) World Vision Convoy Ambushed in Darfur Ethan Cole An aid convoy from Christian agency World Vision International was ambushed in Darfur and three humanitarian workers were wounded, the U.N. mission to Sudan said Saturday. The convoy with eight staff members was attacked Thursday some 25 miles south of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, the United Nations reported, according to The Associated Press. Among the three wounded aid workers all of whom were Sudanese two were shot in the head and one in the arm. World Vision informed AP that two are in stable condition, while one is in serious condition. This is a horrifying and brutal attack on aid staff who are working to save the lives of Sudanese people, U.N. humanitarian chief John Holmes said. The attackers have not been identified but the United Nations did note that Arab tribes have had frequent clashes...

Mayor Akiba?s peace declaration and world vision

The mayor of Hiroshima gave a speech on supporting democracy and peace around the world while eliminating the need to resort to aggression. It is great that the people of Hiroshima have chosen not to gloss this point in their history over. We must never forget the past no matter what heartbreaking or traumatic events ...

2007-07-04 16:07:00
Author: Eric Subject: Corporations Donate to World Vision's EffortPosted: Wed Jul 04, 2007 10:07 am (GMT -4) Corporations Donate to World Vision's Effort USA (MNN) -- Unrelenting rains in Texas last week have resulted in a declared major disaster area. 11 have been reported dead. Some areas received more than two feet of rain. World Vision is responding to the thousands of displaced families who survived the floods. Through their Gifts-in-Kind Program American corporations were able to donate supplies for the families in need. World Vission will distribute items like clothing, diapers for the children, and hygiene products. Weather forecasts predict more rain for the area and the damage done will vary. Some families may return to simply wet carpet, while others may find the water has risen halfway up their home. While a few families have been allowed to return, there are many that have not. The storms that caused the flooding also caused 152 flight...

Author: Eric Subject: World Vision Alarmed at Aid Worker Deaths in LebanonPosted: Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:47 pm (GMT -4) World Vision Alarmed at Aid Worker Deaths in Lebanon Lebanon (MNN) -- World Vision says the death of two Lebanese Red Cross workers in Northern Lebanon sets a dangerous precedent. They died when mortar shells exploded just outside the Palestinian refugee camp two days ago. The violence Monday capped a weekend of fighting that claimed the lives of 11 additional soldiers and injured more than 100. Since fighting began May 20, more than 133 people, including 57 soldiers, have been killed at the Nahr el Bared camp. The violence threatens the already fragile lifeline to thousands of civilians still trapped there. Recent fighting has also displaced more than 30,000 people. World Vision is there, in the name of Christ, providing critical survival items and food support, as well as providing a haven for the children. The WVI team reports unsanitary conditions in t...

Author: Eric Subject: World Vision Provides Education for Iraqi RefugeesPosted: Mon Jun 04, 2007 2:31 pm (GMT -4) World Vision Partners Provide Education for Young Iraqi Refugees Courtney Lee Despite the challenges hindering humanitarian operations in Jordan, three World Vision partners have started up education programs for young Iraqi refugees in the region. Jordan and Syria are hosting the majority of the more than two million Iraqi refugees that are scattered across the Middle East. Hundreds of thousands more have fled to Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey and the Gulf States. Another two million are displaced within Iraq. Although up to a quarter of a million of the refugees in Jordan are of school age, only around 10,000 are going to school, according to the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR. World Vision partner organizations in Jordan are finding ways to work with young Iraqi refugees, with one organization now operating day programs for 200 children. Iraqi youth are able to...
Interview with President of World Vision - Excerpts
2007-05-18 17:00:00
One of the few things I know about my career is that - after five years of corporate life, I will be taking a moment and re-evaluating whether I really want to stay there. So now itself, started short-listing things I can do if i decide to quit corporate world. One Evergreen Option is to become a Professor in some well known college [There is nothing more exciting than entertaining 60+ students for a hour but still managing to add some value - that too, not for a single day, but for a whole semester.. Hmmm.. Looks tough enough for me..] Another option - To join some social service organization and 'World Vision' heads that list of social organizations I would like to join. So I was very much interested on seeing the heading "Ten (or so) questions with Richard Sterns, President of World Vision" in Guy Kawaski's Blog - "How to change the world". Worth a read for anybody who wish to leave the corporate world and 'go out and change the world'.Certain Excerpts I liked from the...
