A mommy-writer’s worry
2009-09-24 02:57:00 I write about a lot of things – politics, naughty bits, love toys. I wax philosophical about financial issues and have been known to share with readers the joys of meat-free living. For this, I’ve earned a buck fifty and tons of hate mail. What? I suffer for my art. But nothing worries me more than when I ...
I'm a Ball of Worry
2009-09-03 10:00:00 Several times a week Andrew and I take a walk through the neighborhood and usually end up at the track for a jog. It gives us time to talk about our day, unwind a bit and feel as if we're accomplishing something. But last night I was telling him how it seems that I'm just filled with anxieties lately. I know that's probably a big "D'uh!" considering our situation right now but still . . . it seems I'm just one big ball of worry. So in true blog-as-therapy fashion I'm lying (laying? I can never remember which it is . . . that old "chickens lay" thing never helps me one bit) back on the couch and dumping out my worries on the floor. Feel free to sift around through the pile and take whatever interests you. I certainly don't want them anymore.1. What if this new business doesn't work out?Of course this is the premier worry on our minds. I've heard that "Edison went through 10,354,987 different tries before he invented the light bulb" thing ad nauseum and it's made an impressio...

Don't worry, be happy, Hossa's got 12 years to heal
2009-07-23 19:08:00 I see where some people aren't worried a bit to hear that Marian Hossa has a right rotator cuff tear. There have been yawns all around at how underwhelming it is. He should heal well before the 12-year contract runs out, they say with a sniff at my ignorance and my knee-jerk skepticism. It's already been 48 years between Blackhawks championships. What's the hurry? He'll be fine after a minor setback that the miracle of modern medicine can easily repair, even perhaps through the no-muss, no-fuss alternative of rehab, which means that the tear has gone into hiding for the present time. It could always return when least expected, like an IRS audit. We can even prescribe some medical...

Weekend Wrap Up ? Don?t Worry, It Won?t Be Too Over Stimulating?
2009-05-26 17:39:00 As any decent blogger knows, the beginning of the week is when everyone reads the most blogs. Why? Because they are back in the office and have nothing better to do. Why blog from home when there are so many other activities available like washing behind your boys? toilet or figuring out what that smell is in the kitchen sink or maybe even watching your child participate in a sporting event. Do I know about the high frequency of blogging during the workweek from experience? Why yes, yes I do. An experienced blogger once told me about it. I read, heard and saw a lot this weekend. This is partly because I swore that this Memorial Day Weekend, for the first time in almost 10 years, I was going to sit in the comfort of my own home and watch both the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 from start to finish. If only I hadn?t been so precise with my wordage. The weekend might have been much different if not for the 24 hours it took to get in just over half of the 600 mile NASCAR race. (I ...

Why Teenagers Worry About Acne So Much
2009-03-13 15:31:00 The other day I was asking my daughter why does teenagers worry about acne so much, I used the word pimple. I told that not only teenagers but people of every age get acne, I know some of the reasons for the worry but what makes teenagers to get so much fussy about this one problem. It is as she knows most common in teenagers and at least 85 percent of them get acne in varying degrees. It is also known that most of the boys do not care much about acne unless then get infected and result in a bigger problem. Most of these pimples go away in due course. But they may go leaving a scar. There are teenagers and even grownup with excessive pimples. The most prominent feature of their face becomes acne. If acne is a big headache for them both physically and emotionally and socially I can understand, but I saw teens worrying even with a small pimple on their face.By talking with my daughter I came to know that most of the teenagers who are obsessively beauty conscious due to the natural new a...

China's Labor Laws. Worry Me Or Worry Me Not.
2009-01-11 06:08:00 About a month ago, we did a post entitled, "China's New Labor Contract Law. Harmonized Out Of Existence?" In that post, we (I say we here because some of what I was reporting was coming to me from co-blogger Steve Dickinson who is based in China) talked about how local and provincial authorities were giving out broad hints that they were not going to be all that keen about strictly enforcing China's labor laws other than those related to preventing layoffs: We have talked so much about the labor law because it applies to every business in China with an employee. Complying with the law is relatively easy and the penalties for failing to comply can be so harsh. But last week, a long-time client of ours with a factory in Shandong Province (just outside Qingdao) told me of how a Chinese government employee had essentially told him not to worry so much about China's labor contract law. The gist of the government employee's statements to our client was that so long as this company ...

Going with it...Worry-free
2009-01-04 20:46:00 Things went differently than I expected at my session with Sarah Weiss. It was a powerful healing session with lots of clearing. I held a very powerful healing crystal called a Herkimer Diamond (not really a diamond-diamond but that's what it's called). For the first time I actually felt healing from holding a crystal so this was a new development for me. I really felt swirling energy sweeping through each chakra from the top down while I held it. I'm getting one of those! I bid on one on Ebay today! In any case, I learned that my first and second chakras were rather blocked. This is due to worrying about money, work and time. Basically - worry in general. I do tend to worry and have trouble staying in the moment, always thinking about what I need to do next. Sarah worked with me on getting into my "place of abundance" (think "Happy Place" :D ) and there being worry-free. In fact, I noticed that when I'm feeling surrounded by energy, as when I call in energy for healing work, the...

Some generic blood pressure drugs aren?t as good, so why worry
2008-12-04 02:30:00 I am aghast at the latest headline spin insisting that generic drugs are just as good as the more expensive brands. Why? Because the study cited doesn’t “prove” that at all. From the JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) abstract (summary): We identified 47 articles covering 9 subclasses of cardiovascular medications, of which 38 (81%) were randomized ...
Why You Shouldn?t Worry about Getting Results
2008-11-17 11:43:00 Everyone is worried about getting results, aren’t they? Results are what you need for success in science - they are essential for bringing the funding in. But focusing on results per se is not a good way to work because, as a scientist, you can’t “get” results. You can’t “make” them happen. Essentially in every experiment you ...

You'll just have to wait until after my vacation. Don't worry, I'll leave
2008-10-24 21:08:00 Everyone and their brother, it seems, has a site that will help you get hotels for cheaper these days. The problem with all of those sites is it requires that YOU do all the work, and who wants to do that for their vacation?Enter "Rentalo," the website that lets you get vacation rentals for less -- less work, and less money. Here's how Rentalo works: Go to their site, enter the city or area you're going to, and you'll get listings of the hotel, bed & breakfast, and other lodging options. Pick the dates of travel and kind of lodging, just like any other site, and you'll narrow the listings down to the ones that meet your criteria. From there, look at the ones you like, and if you think you want to know more or stay there, check the "click to inquire" box.Still with me? See? It's easy. Now here's where it gets different and better: you'll inquire by asking those hotels and motels to make YOU an offer to stay there -- and they know that the others are competing, too.So ...

High Risk Personal Loans - Don't Worry Be Happy, You Have Opportunities!
2008-09-11 07:03:00 A high risk personal loan is probably not the easiest to attain if you are the borrower with bad credit. But if you look at it from a slightly different angle, it can offer an opportunity that can end with a positive experience. Personal Loans of the high risk nature are normally unsecured loans of smaller amounts to cover unexpected expenses. Since these loans have no collateral and come with an associated risk, lenders will incorporate a cushion to keep it a worthwhile business venture.Let's be honest. Many lenders will shy away from lending money to a high risk candidate. But times have changed. These types of loans have grown in popularity. So even though you may have your work cut out for you to get a desirable term, you should not not have any problem finding a lender for the cause. So, why are lenders willing to lend to a high risk candidate? Lenders that are in the business of giving loans to candidates with bad credit do so with a known risk. But since they are in ...

House payments a worry around the globe
2008-08-07 02:30:00 A new Financial Times/Harris poll of adults in the U.S. and four European countries, taken from July 2-14, shows people in France are the least worried about losing their place because they can’t pay the rent or mortgage. Only 2% of French adults surveyed were extremely concerned compared to 4% in the U.S., Great Britain and Germany. Spain was the real downer — 10% are living in fear of losing the roof over their head and 60% of Spaniards are worried to some degree. U.S. residents overall seemed fairly optimistic — 61% profess no concerns about being able to stay put. In fact, 62% of U.S. tenants surveyed didn’t even think they would get a rent increase in the next year, second only to Germany where 70% think rents will remain the same. And our amies in France? They have the largest group that is expecting a rent increase, 70% of the French surveyed think rents are going up. Here’s the results from when Harris pollsters asked:“Thinking to the next 12 ...

Letter - Living Room plans worry south end residents
2008-07-09 00:35:00 The following is a letter I've written to the local papers about VIHAs plan to couple transitional housing with a failed addictions program. I have some experience working in this area.- - -VIHA's Living Room attempts appear disorganized and remind some south end residents of a salesperson trying to remarket the same old failed product. Unfortunately, we are the ones who have been paying for VIHA?s learning curve. The past incarnations of the Living Room, as hard as they were to manage, were in commercial areas. Now they want to put it in the middle of a residential neighborhood, adjacent to transition housing for those trying to get away from the street. Is there some study showing this might actually work, or was this decision simply motivated by dollars and cents? At the south end community meeting, a VIHA spokesperson said, ?we see it as a good thing to have the Living Room coupled with the residence.? No study was offered to back that up. Does the VIHA operate on gut feeling an...

Not to Worry
2008-06-09 12:45:00 I have not posted in a while. Just not sure where I am at with my body.I have been taking my vitamin D and was feeling a whole lot better, but lately I have been slipping. My feet are swollen. They can get huge. I'm tired all the time and do not want to do anything. So, I crochet and try to stay home.I do not know what the cause of my lack of enthusiasm is , but probably Fibromyalgia. So, I look to the Lord to see what it is He would have me do. I'm thinking I'm doing what I am suppose to be doing and just taking care of myself for now. I do not feel any pressure to run out and save the world. So, I'm just going to take it one day at a time.I have decided to see my doctor. Try to head off anything that may be happening that I do not know about. The swelling in my feet is a problem that probably needs to be addressed. But, I am not to worried about it. After all, to worry is to believe the lies from Satan.

Fuel Prices Rise, Worry For Investors.
2008-06-04 14:26:00 Discontent with the quantum of the fuel price hike, the market came under severe pressure as investors dumped shares across the board. Concerns that the hike would accelerate inflation, which is already at worryingly high levels, and that cost pressures could squeeze corporate profits took a toll on sentiment. The government today raised petrol and diesel prices by about 10 per cent on Wednesday, the biggest increase in recent times, to curb losses at its state-run refiners. However, the rise is expected to lift annual inflation to 13-year highs above 9 percent in early June, analysts forecast. Data last Friday showed annual inflation running at 8.1 per cent on May 17, its highest in more than 3.5 years. The hike on petrol and diesel prices was by Rs 5 and Rs 3 a litre respectively, that of LPG by Rs 50 a cylinder while kerosene prices were kept unchanged. The hike will be effective from midnight. The price of petrol, currently Rs 45.5 a litre in Delhi, w...

I'm trying not to worry
2008-05-30 17:09:00 I haven't gotten a SPOT message from J since Tuesday. It's Friday now, and I'm a little worried. He said that they would send a message out every day. J's mom wrote me a nice little e-mail though and told me that J is experienced and knows what he's doing, and not to worry. She thinks that the weather is probably bad up on the mountain or something, so maybe they just haven't moved from their last spot yet. Hmm.I had a great hike yesterday with my friend, and we're going to try to get in an evening hike every week or so. We're going again next Wednesday, and we're going to try something a little more challenging - with more elevation. It should be another 5 hr. hike, so I'm stoked for that! After our hike last night, he took me around on a little tour of North Vancouver, since I haven't spent much time there before. It was a good time indeed. :)
