Worship

"And he pitched his tent having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east: and there he built an altar." Genesis 12:8Worship is giving God the best that He has given you. Be careful what you do with the best you have. Whenever you get a blessing from God, give it back to Him as a love gift. Take time to meditate before God and offer the blessing back to Him in a deliberate act of worship. If you hoard a thing for yourself, it will turn into spiritual dry rot, as the manna did when it was hoarded. God will never let you hold a spiritual thing for yourself, it has to be given back to Him that He may make it a blessing to others.Bethel is the symbol of communion with God; Ai is the symbol of the world. Abraham pitched his tent between the two. The measure of the worth of our public activity for God is the private profound communion we have with Him. Rush is wrong every time, there is always plenty of time to worship God. Quiet days with God may be a snare. We have to pitch our tents where ...
The Abishag Ministry of Worship
2008-06-02 14:13:00
The River Church Some of us may feel like we don’t have a very important place in the Body of Christ.  We look around at others who seem to have great purpose, and we wonder, “God, why can’t I do great things for you?”   Abishag might have felt like that. Her story is recorded in 1 Kings 1:1-4.  In his old age, King David became feeble, and a young woman was sought to keep him warm and care for him.  It doesn’t sound like the most exciting place to be.  It was not a place of recognition, but a place of seclusion.  Yet we read of Abishag, in verse 4, “And the young lady was very beautiful; and she cherished the king, and ministered to him….”  We wouldn’t naturally think of her as being important, yet she is mentioned by name in the Bible.  Most of David’s other wives’ names were only recorded in connection with the children they bore. Their place in the kingdom was recognized because of what they produced - t...
In Mexico town, icon of death inspires worship and worry
2008-06-02 12:51:00
While a similar shrine to a Catholic saint would likely be a source of pride, many residents are appalled at a 75-foot-tall statue of a skeleton shrouded in black, Santa Muerte (Saint Death). Although the Santa Muerte icon has existed for decades in working-class Mexican neighborhoods, never has it towered so ominously.

It Is Well With My Soul ...
2008-05-27 18:01:00
I am thinking and praying for my friends Karen and Joe. This song comes to mind. Think I need to listen to this song for myself too. I woke up stressed this morning. I need to lay it down to Jesus and trust Him instead of being stressed. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,When sorrows like sea billows roll;Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,It is well, it is well, with my soul.It is well, with my soul,It is well, with my soul,It is well, it is well, with my soul.Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,Let this blessed assurance control,That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,And hath shed His own blood for my soul.It is well, with my soul,It is well, with my soul,It is well, it is well, with my soul.My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole,Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!It is well, with my soul,It is well, with my soul,It is well, it is well, with my s...

Worship Team on TV
2008-05-25 12:39:00
Our worship team and I had a great time this last Thursday night. We were asked to come and play on a live TV show at Cornerstone TV in Pittsburgh. When we got there, I found out it was the first time they were doing "live" worship for this particular show... so they actually were making a lot of changes while we were on the air... changing things around on the spot. It was intense!Anyways, I'm way proud of our team. They did incredible... especially, since it was the first time for the majority of us to do anything like this. The video is below if you didn't get a chance to see it.Click here if you can't see the video.
Free Praise and Worship Resources at ShareSong.org

Today's free music is actually an entire website of praise and worship resources. ShareSong.org is a website that allows anyone to upload original or public domain mp3s, chords, sheets, and lyrics, so that they can be found and enjoyed by Christians everywhere. All of the items on the site are free, though I do recommend reading the User Agreement before downloading anything. It looks like there are around 5000 songs listed. That's a lot of music! Thankfully, there's a nice little search box to help you find exactly what you're looking for.-ShareSong.org- Bonus Downloads: Alli Rogers - Closer to the Moon Flyleaf - I'm So Sick Aaron Sprinkle - Really Something

I have never walked on waterFelt the waves beneath my feet butAt your Word Lord, I?ll receive YourFaith to walk on oceans deepAnd I remember how You found me:In that very same placeAll my failing surely would've drowned meBut You made a wayYou are my freedomJesus you?re the reasonI?m kneeling again at Your throneWhere would I be without YouHere in my life, here in my life? You have said that all the heavensSing for joy at one who findsThe way to freedom, truth of JesusBought from death into His lifeAnd I remember how You saw me:Through the eyes of Your graceAnd though the cost was Your beloved for meStill you made a way!***UPDATED:This song will be my sharing for "Then Sings My Soul" Saturday meme. We received a sad news yesterday and I don't have much time to elaborate on how this song touched me. What resonates in me right now is the Bible verse when the Apostle Paul said: "To live is Christ, to die is gain".

Better Is One Day In Your Court - Sung by Kutless
2008-05-18 07:50:00
Whenever I am sad, or glad, or mad, I think of how these feelings are all going to be gone once we meet God in heaven. But while we are here on earth, the place that I am at peace the most is when I am at church, worshipping God; or when I am in the car by myself singing praises at the top of my voice. Truly, better is one day in God's court than thousand elsewhere.Below is a YouTube video and lyrics. I chose to post this particular version of this song by Kutless because it gives me joy to see a younger generation enjoying worshipping God in their own way. God looks at the heart and I think these young generation's heart is right with God.How lovely is your dwelling place, oh, Lord almightyFor my soul longs and even faints for youLord, here my heart is satisfied within your presenceI sing beneath the shadow of your wings(Chorus)Better is one day in your court, better is one day in your houseBetter is one day in your court than thousands elsewhere{Repeat}One thing I ask and I ...

On Waiting To Be A Mother
2008-05-10 10:16:00
A friend of mine is going through some tough times this month. They are in the process of invitro and the first implant did not take. It would have been nice if she got pregnant by Mothers Day, but she won't. They would have to wait for another month to try again. "All I wanted most is to be a Mother" she wrote. It broke my heart when I read that e-mail. She's been waiting for a long time. It's hard to be surrounded by friends with kids when you are wanting to be a mom and still couldn't.I previously blogged about this subject when my sister in law was waiting to get pregnant. The post can be found here. I am happy to announce that the waiting game for her is over because on February 14, 2008 she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. Therefore I am continually be praying for my friend. That the next invitro implant would take. That she would be pregnant and will conceive and deliver an healthy baby. I know it can happen. I know it will.Cry Out To Jesus - Third Day (2005)To...

House of Worship restoration necessitates partial closing
2008-05-05 17:55:00
To enable further restoration of the Baha'i House of Worship and begin construction of the new Visitors Center, the lower level of the House of Worship, which currently houses the Visitors Center and bookstore, will be closed to the public for approximately one year, from May 19, 2008, to May 2009. The auditorium (prayer hall), on the upper level of the House of Worship, will remain open for prayers and meditation. The elevator to the auditorium will not be available so access to the auditorium will be by stairs only during this period. The gardens are wheelchair accessible. Guides will continue to offer tours of the temple, and restrooms will be available. During the partial closing, visitors will enter the temple from the corner of Linden Avenue and Sheridan Road, walking along the reflecting pool before ascending the stairs to the auditorium. There will be a limited number of spaces in the House of Worship parking lot to the west of the building. Parking on nearby streets also w...

30 MINUTE WORSHIP - GUARANTEED
2008-04-29 16:39:00
The big sign outside the church building reads, "30 Minute Worship - Guaranteed." It's a new concept of church for busy people. They advertise, "It's all about the quality, not about the quantity." They offer worship for 10 minutes, the word for 12-15 minutes and response for 5 minutes for those that don't have much time.Have we become so busy that we now need a worship service that lasts the same length of a tv sitcom? Are we so time starved that we now can only do a Sweet Half-Hour of Prayer? What's next, drive thru church where you don't even have to leave your car?I'm actually not sure what I think about this. Here are a few questions still swirling around in my head that I'd love your opinion on:My concern really isn't with the church's offer of a 30 minute service. In fact, I love the fact that a church is trying something new to reach out to people who don't think they have time for God. But I think it says something about our society when we can't give God more th...

Idol Worship vs. Idle Worship

Warning Christians at worship: punch up in Church of the Holy Sepulchre
2008-04-21 16:50:00
Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre turned into the equivalent of a pub free-for-all recently, with Greek and Armenian worshipers trading punches. Israeli police waded in to try and break up the warring factions. The fracas was set off when Armenian worshipers took it upon themselves to throw a Greek Orthodox priest out of the church.Palm fronds, traditionally used to celebrate the return of Jesus to the Holy City before he was crucified, were employed as weapons to beat the police officers. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is shared by various branches of Christianity, each of which jealously guards its turf. Ironically two Muslim families and their predecessors have long served as 'keepers of the gates' ... kind of like a neutral ref in a tense stand-off between competing factions. It is ironical in the extreme to learn that followers of "the prince of peace" beat each other up on the very site where many Christians believe Jesus was crucified and buried.Israeli police offer...

Worship — Weapon of Warfare
2008-04-14 14:16:00
The River Church For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds - 2 Corinthians 10:4.  God has given us many weapons with which to overcome the enemy of our souls - the Word of God, the blood and the name of Jesus, our faith, and the word of our testimony, for starters.  Worship is primarily to honor the King of Kings, but it has a by-product effect of being a weapon of warfare.  2 Chronicles 20:1-30 tells the story of Judah being attacked by an army too great for them to overcome.  As the people sought the Lord, a prophetic word was spoken that God would fight on their behalf.  Their immediate response was worship.  But King Jehoshaphat’s next move is entirely surprising.  He sent out an army to meet the foe, with worshippers going before, whose only job was to praise the Lord!  As they worshipped, God caused such confusion among the enemy that they killed each other.  There is a dynamic of worship that ...

Worship of Noo-Noo
2008-04-10 01:38:00
The vaccum cleaner's been a big hit with both kids. Aside from dehairing the carpet (thanks to my post-partum shedding, which is STLL going), it's acted as both a source of entertainment and a sleep aid for fussy babies.Conor's far more interested in actually using the Noo-Noo now. He struggles but will give it a decent go. This includes attempting a takeover when I'm vacuuming and then I've got to share it with him. It does not make for an efficient job.Isla will follow it all around the house just to sit in the direct flow of the warm air vent at the back. It 'froufs' her hair and fans her face. She loves it. She also likes to watch all the boogers and greeblees dancing around in the clear plastic collection container. I wonder what she makes of it? I'm thinking she'd be quite keen on fossicking through to find edible bits.It does not take much to entertain these guys.
How Great Thou Art - Video and Lyrics - sung by Carrie Underwood
2008-04-01 20:16:00
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art! When through the woods, and forest glades I wander, And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees. When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art! And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing; Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How gre...

Why does God care if we love and worship him or not? Is he really that inse
2008-03-27 06:11:00
Sent in by JohnnyBeing brought up by evangelical parents in a very strong Christian community it was only natural that I was indoctrinated with falsehoods from as far back as I can remember. I even spent the first 14 years of my life living in a church house for the first seven and then in flat above a church for the following seven. I was taught the same stories and morals as many of you on here; the doctrine of the trinity, heaven and hell, the resurrection and countless other miracles. My parents were unwavering in their faith, and most of our family and family friends were Christians of some sort too.Despite this, my parents were not overly strict, openly admitted they could not answer all of my questions about God, and wholly accepted the fact I was to ?experiment? with other religions/world views before committing to anything.I have always had a very inquiring mind and can remember grilling them from about the age of 4 or 5 with difficult questions such as ?who created God??, ...

FAQ: What do you atheists worship, then?
2008-03-20 16:49:00
It depends on what you mean by “worship”. If you mean admire, respect, try to emulate, or believe in, I can’t answer your question, as every atheist is different. There’s nothing in the “atheist” tag that specifies any of those about a person.  If you mean in a religious sense… the answer is simple: nothing. Now, ...
Invisible Worship
2008-03-19 19:33:00
I was asked once, "What worshipping God looks like in my life". It was a question that I welcomed as an opportunity to testify and share, but it also identified a perception that worshipping God is largely limited to being visible and in a group (gathering) setting. This perception is supported by the many claims by Christians of "falling away" if one is not in a physical church or group. My worship of the Father is by the  fellowship of  His Son. My worship is not limited to a day of the week, but minutely as I am His Temple in where He resides. My worship of the Father is my love for Him and His truth. My worship of the Father is in serving my husband. My worship of the Father is in the ministry of my children. My worship of the Father is in the hospitality of my home towards others. My worship of the Father is listening to that gentle voice in my heart. My worship of the Father manifests in being still in Him and waiting on Him. My worship...
