No, we're not talking about New Coke, although Microsoft probably could have learned a lesson from that failed experiment when it went about developing what would end up being Windows Vista, namely that consumers demand more than some glitz and fancy new packaging if they're to abandon an old, reliable friend. And besides that impressive Aero GUI -- which many PCs can't take advantage of anyway -- what is Vista really offering us that XP didn't? A crash-prone new media player? Exclusive "ultimate extras" that have so far amounted to a lame shareware game? A thousand chances a day to feel important when bequeathing "Administra...
How would you change the Apple TV?
2007-08-13 04:01:00 Filed under: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Wireless Any time Apple enters a new product category it's obviously a fairly major development -- we'll still getting bombarded with iPhone news over one month post-launch -- so now that you've had some time to play with it, it's only fair that we give the Apple TV the same vulture-like evisceration that we do any other high profile consumer electronics product. The little box seems to have received a warm welcome for the most part, with hackers quickly tearing it apart and adding all sorts of new capabilities to boot, but what we're interested in is how you'd change the device out of the box. Would you make it more or less integrated with the iTunes ecosystem? Should it be friendlier to a wider variety of codecs? Maybe open up the USB port? Okay, have at it... Learning and Skills Council survey finds just half of adults would spend £1
2007-08-10 12:00:00 Young adults have admitted they would spend their £1,000-a-year learning grant on going to the pub, rather than purchasing new books, a survey has revealed. People aged 19 and over can apply for an Adult Learning Grant (ALG) under a Learning and Skills Council (LSC) initiative to combat the skills crisis, to receive up to £30 per week when studying full time for a first full Level 2 (5 GCSEs at grades A* to C) or a first full Level 3 (2 A levels) qualification. The ALG is intended to be a helping hand for adults who want to learn more skills, but have certain financial worries. But 18% of the 1,600 adults surveyed by the LSC said they would spend their part of the £35m initiative on going out, rather than on learning materials such as books or computer equipment. A further 22% said they would save their weekly grant to help them set up their own business. Just half said they would use the grant to buy new books. The LSC has defended the system, saying it is entirely up to...

2007-08-09 16:17:00 "The only time that the producers really took notice of my Christianity was when we were in Thailand. They asked us to bow to Buddha and of course, I wouldn't do it. The cameramen asked me why I wouldn't bow. I shared that to bow to Buddha was to put him over my God, and that I will never put any other image or idol before my God, and I just cannot and won't bow to Buddha. I think at that moment, they realized that they had a Christian on their hands. It is easy to say you are a Christian, read your Bible, and go to church on Sundays. 2007-08-08 05:41:00 I wonder why terrified people still make kids... I mean, if you're not sure about it, doesn't that mean you should wait?Ireland OnLine reports that Gwen Stefani was terrified she'd be a bad mother to son Kingston because of her hectic life as a glamorous pop star.Stefani gave birth to Kingston - her first child with husband Gavin Rossdale - last year, and was pleasantly surprised she made a natural mother. The 37-year-old says: "My biggest fears about motherhood were: 'How would I fit him into my life? Would I be too self-obsessed to be able to care about him enough?"I have a really extraordinary life and I obviously have a lot of passion about the things that I do. So I didn't know if I could be selfless enough. But obviously I can. It's the most amazing thing that has happened to me."

I Would Rather Die in a Terrorist Attack
2007-08-06 21:23:00 Sometimes I go over to Daily Kos. I admit it. I don’t visit there out of a sense of “fairness,” or because I think I need to see how crazy the other side of the fence is. I’m well aware of the Left’s inability to string together anything coherent. The reason that you can find me at Daily Kos, Democratic underground, and other cesspools of breeding “progressive” bacteria is simple. Entertainment. Where else can you read about the adventures of Bush the Weathermaker and his hatred of “black people?” How else would I know that hurricanes aren’t caused by nature but by Republicans? So, imagine my non-surprise when I read at LGF that the moonbats at Daily Kos stayed up too late again with the strobe light on. It falls me more heavily; I need longer for words and grammar at least can I meanwhile (after one week of constant hearing) the words recognize, which are spoken on CD or in the Norwegian radio. Which they mean, I do not know unfortunately yet… each day a few words, then it - with much luck - can loose-go next year! All those, which want our new beginning along volume towards, are cordially invited!
