Town Hall Debate Wrap
2008-10-08 16:18:00 I didn't like the format. It was dumb, the questions were dumb, and there was no opportunity for the candidates to really engage each other or respond in a - well, debating way. Brokaw lost control a few time, but frankly I want to see something more free-wheeling. ...

Blogorlando Wrap-Up
2008-10-01 00:21:00 I had an amazing time at Blogorlando this weekend. Having never been to an ?unconference? before, I didn?t know what to expect. I thought that it would be more like roundtable discussions, but I was surprised how prepared and professional the presentations were. The sessions I attended were great. Even when I ventured out ...

Show 50 Wrap-up
2008-09-26 05:39:00 Thanks so much to Dr. Jeffrey Parks from the Buckeye Surgeon blog. Missed the show? Well, you can always catch the archive of The Doctor Anonymous Show 50 (don't forget to rate the show). In addition to surgical topics, we talked about how he started out as an anonymous blogger. And, in the past few months, he decided to use his real name and picture up on his blog. (See video post above)Thanks also go out to those who called into the show including Bongi (a surgeon from South Africa where it was 3:30am when he called in), Vijay (a radiologist from India where it was about 8am local time when he called in), Ramona, Enrico, and Mother Jones who called in at the end of the show. I admit that I had a little difficult time hearing Bongi live. So, I'll have to listen to the archived show again. At the end of the show, I talked about a possible Doctor Anonymous Halloween Show at the end of October. I'm thinking that would be fun, but not sure exactly how the show would be structured. Ma...

AFC South Wk. 3 Wrap.
2008-09-26 04:36:00 AFC SOUTH Week 3Titans 31 Texans 12By Rafael Garcia AFC South Insider At the start of the season what was clear was that the Colts would be in first place. Then it should have been Jacksonville second. Well the power structure has changed a bit. After the Titans put a whipping on Houston it was they who were in first. With a 3-0 record they have a two game lead over the Colts and Jags (both 0-2). The defense has given up only 29 points total do far. Jags back Albert Haynesworth and Courtland Finnegan may be the best at their position in the league. Haynesworth had a sack and was a monster all day. Finnegan got his fourth pick of the year and ran it back 99 yards for a touchdown. Micheal Griffin had two interceptions of his own and the Titans defense held Houston scoreless in the second half. Kerry was solid going 14-26 for 189 yards and touchdown pass to Bo Scaife. The running game produced 154 yards and that was enough for the win. In the stands the crowd pounded on the seats. Th...
Martha Wrap-Up!
2008-09-23 10:59:00 Obviously we were the first in line... bright and early. That's what #1 fans do!Waiting in the room before we got to the studioMartha's Kitchen!!!!The crafting area! How fantastic would it be to have a studio like that at your house? The busy team with Martha A special thanks to the team at the Martha Stewart show for a priceless and eye-opening experience (especially her production assistant Noel who found our blog and invited us!) Also a big thanks to the people at Hewlett Packard for outfitting the entire studio audience with our new HP wireless printers!I'm not really positive if words can describe exactly how excited we were to have had an opportunity to visit the show, to see Martha work with her team, and do everything that she does best live and in person... but I think it's pretty fantastic that We Are Not Martha is approaching our one year anniversary and we've already been blessed with such a great memory! I sense some Good Things coming![Chels and Sues]
Show 49 Wrap-up
2008-09-19 07:01:00 Thanks to everyone who joined The Doctor Anonymous Show 49 tonight! Thanks to Kim from Emergiblog who is going out to Blog World Expo in Las Vegas this weekend. We talked about a luncheon that's going to take place out there centered on new media medicine and medical blogging. (See video post above)There has also been talk that there will be a specific new media medicine and medblogger programming track at Blog World Expo 2009. So, we talked about potential topics including The Health Care Blogger Code of Ethics. Also, in kind of a fun way, we were "volunteering" people to do sessions next year. Thanks so much to the people who called into the show (and makes my job a lot easier so I don't have to talk to myself): Emily, Mother Jones, Enrico. Also, thanks to everyone who listened live! I had to start the show 45 minutes late tonight because I was stuck at the hospital. But, as soon as I sent the twitter out that the show was starting - BOOM - about 20 people magically appeared in m...

Show 48 Wrap-up
2008-09-12 05:07:00 Thanks so much to my guests Travis and Rae on The Doctor Anonymous Show 48. They are co-hosts on The Differential podcast which is a fan podcast about the TV show House, MD. We talked about possible spoilers for the Season 5 Premiere which will be Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 at 8pm eastern time on the Fox television network. We also talked about the website which has discussion forums, sign-up for a newsletter, and a poll asking who is your favorite character on the show. They also have a my space page. Rae also said that this is the only podcast out there whose main purpose is a House, MD fan podcast (that's exciting). Thanks again for being on the show, and I'm excited to be a part of this project.I closed out the show by sharing thoughts concerning September 11, 2001. I told myself that if I ever was able to have a blog and possibly a show - that I would talk about things important to me - like that day. I talked about The National Anthem in a post back on September 6th, 2006....

Show 47 Wrap-up
2008-09-05 09:01:00 Thanks so much to Emily McGee from Crzegrl, Flight Nurse for being on the Show Number 47 (Don't forget to rate the show and to make it a "favorite").If you missed this show live, you definitely missed a good one (no kidding!). Emily is a very passionate person and driven person - and that's why she has been successful at just about anything that she does. We talked about her blog and about blogging in general -especially in the areas of nursing blogging and military blogging. (See the video post above)We also talked about some of her hobbies including her motorcycle and skydiving. These topics really lit up the chat room. She enlisted in the army and I cannot thank her and her colleagues in the armed forces enough for their service to this country. It's because of brave people like these that a shmuck like me can have a radio show. Have you thanked a soldier today? Thanks also to Enrico and to Marq for calling into the show, asking questions, and sharing comments. I really appreci...

Show 46 Wrap-up
2008-08-29 09:01:00 The one year anniversary show, otherwise known as Doctor Anonymous Show 46 (don't forget to rate the show), was a huge success. (See video post above) Even before the show, I had a little pre show over on my ustream site. Thanks to the dozen or show people who showed up for that. We had a great discussion even before the show started. As far as the show itself, a good time was had by all. Thanks to all those who called into the show including RockDog, MarQ, Carrie, MJ RN, Annie & Burl, and finally Enrico called into save me from myself. The show went a little too long. Maybe I should shift back to a 60 minute show in the future.During the show I shared a little about the origins of The Doctor Anonymous franchise including the blog, the show, the video blogs, and other stuff. I also tried a bit called "Ask Doctor Anonymous," which didn't work out how I thought and that idea will be tossed away. Finally, I covered some news stories and the closed up the show. But, the evening was not ...

Show 45 Wrap-up
2008-08-22 09:01:00 Thanks so much to Ramona for being on the Show 45 tonight! (Don't forget to rate the show on the BlogTalkRadio site) I really appreciate it! I encourage everyone to check out her blog Suture For A Living. You could tell from her voice in the beginning that she was very nervous. But, as the interview progressed, she really hit her stride talking about how she chose medicine as a career, and surgery and a specialty, and plastic surgery as a sub-specialty. (See video post above) Her blog not only talks about surgery and medicine, it talks about her favorite hobby which is quilting. I admit that I know nothing about quilting, but I know that Ramona would be happy to teach me and anyone else who is interested - she's great like that! She had a great post on Thursday talking about Women in Surgery. I encourage you to check that out as well. Thanks also to those who called in to say hello including Dr Val, Rural Doctoring, Enrico, and Mary. The last 20 minutes of the show was really co...

Show 44 Wrap-up
2008-08-15 09:01:00 Great discussion tonight about New Media Expo and Podcamp Ohio. The intersection between medicine and new media always fascinates me. And, this show was more the latter. One of the reasons for that is I'm very excited about the Podcamp Ohio project that I'm involved with. I agreed to host one show a month until Podcamp Ohio next summer. Check out Dr. A Show 44 here. You can even download the show here (don't forget to rate the show!)It's always great re-connecting with the people that I met at Podcamp Ohio. Thanks to Brandice, Mitch (he and his wife just had a baby), Angelo (he announced on the show that he and his wife are expecting and due early next year), and Daniel for calling into the show. We even had a someone call in to ask about how to start a podcast. Great stuff! In the last part of the show, I talk about the blog post I read this week from Emergiblog. In it she talk about a possible opportunity to have a panel of medbloggers at the BlogWorld event next month in Las V...

Show 43 Wrap-up
2008-08-08 08:25:00 Thanks so much to Dr. Alan Dappen from Doctokr Family Medicine for joining us on Show number 43 this evening. Thanks also to Dr. Dappen for being flexible in his schedule for allowing me to push back the interview an hour. I really appreciate it.After we talked about his training and travel (did you know that he and his wife were in Kenya for a short period of time?), we talked about his journey through the broken health care system that we have now. During this time, he did a study which confirmed his hypothesis that talking with patients (what we call "taking a history"), basically gives you the diagnosis, without sometimes needing to examine the patient or ordering tests. However, with the physician payment system as it stands right now, patients must come into the office for the traditional office visit which includes taking a history, physical exam, and testing, if needed. We then talked about how he put together the business model that he practices right now. So, if I want to m...

Show 42 Wrap-up
2008-08-02 14:26:00 Thanks so much to Rural Doctoring for being a guest on Show 42 (don't forget to rate the show if you would like). I tried a little bit different intro that I usually do. I learned some stuff from Podcamp Ohio and I'm happy with the opening 5 minutes of the show. I think that I'll continue to say the show number and show title right at the front of the show. And, I'm trying to do the show notes a little different as well.As I shared during the show, my internet at home went out and I had to do the show from the office. So, from the start of the show, I was kind of thrown off. Theresa came on the show at around the 6 minute mark. And, right out of the gate, I made an iPhone comment - HA!We talked about our mutual interest and love of Family Medicine and how we chose this field (9:15). In addition, RD talks about her love for maternity care and how she had a love for delivering babies (11:34) Then, an unusual thing happened. Since I was at the office, I had a question and actually ...

Show 40 Wrap-up
2008-06-26 23:31:00 A little bit of a different show tonight - for Show Number 40 - in that it was not medically related. But, I did have the crew from Podcamp Ohio on the show. The event will be this weekend in Columbus. We talked about some sessions that will take place. I also asked the people on the call about their specific blogs, podcasts, video podcasts, or whatever new media project that they were working on. (see video post above) It was a little bit of a challenge for me because I'm not that well versed in technical stuff. And, I have never had eight people on the show at the same time. So, trying to balance all of that was a challenge - yet a lot of fun! So, I'll be driving down to Columbus on Friday afternoon/evening (about 3 hours away) and hanging out down there this weekend. If you want to keep track of what I'm doing, you can always check out my twitter feed. Or, if that's not working, I just subscribed to friendfeed. I'll also be shooting video down there and hopefully placing i...

2008-06-19 23:01:00 Thanks to Dr. David Loeb from Doctor David's Blog: Musings of a Pediatric Oncologist. (see video post above) The topic of cancer in kids is sometimes an awkward to talk about. Thanks to Dr. David for being up front and honest about talking about these issues. I very much appreciate his candor in talking about this stuff. If you haven't already, check out Show 39 of The Doctor Anonymous Show (and don't forget to rate the show!).Following the interview, I shared some news stories and I'll add those links up on this post a little bit later. Thanks to The Medical Quack for calling into the show and saving me from myself. It's really tough to talk to yourself for 30 minutes to close the show. I really appreciate her promoting the show and talking about the show on her blog. 2008-06-13 00:01:00 As I suspected, my scheduled guests did not show up for The Doctor Anonymous Show 38 (Don't forget to rate the show over there). But, I wasn't surprised by that. So, instead, I was happy to have people calling in and saying hello. (see video post above) First, I wanted to thank David Porter from the Center for Reducing Health Disparities and we talked about the website that he works on and the idea of health disparities in general.Next, Angelo Mandato from PodcampOhio called in and we talked about how he got involved in the idea and the concept of podcamp. He has done a great job organizing the entire event. If you are anywhere in the midwestern United States - specifically Ohio - you have to try to get down to Columbus, Ohio for this gathering. We'll talk about all things new media like blogs, podcasts, video blogging, social networking, twitter, and so much more. Finally, before all the technical problems occurred, Chris Seper from Cleveland.com/Medical called into the show. Monday fantasy wrap
2008-06-10 05:28:00 BY ADAM RONIS Have to start with one of my favorite players. Ken Griffey Jr. hit career home run No. 600. No doubt in my mind he likely would have had the all-time record had he not endured so many injuries. Brandon Phillips is quietly producing. He hit his 12th homer and has 35 RBIs. He's very consistent and hasn't had a major hot streak, so he goes unnoticed sometimes. Edinson Volquez continues to pitch around walks. He walked five, but was able to get a win. He is 9-2 with a 1.56 ERA. He allowed three earned runs in a start for the first time this season. He went six inning and allowed three hits and struck out five. His value might not get higher than this. Mark Reynolds is picking a good time to get hot again. With Conor Jackson back at first base, Chad Tracy will vie with Reynolds for playing time at third. Reynolds hit his third homer in two games and went 3-for-4 with two doubles. He has 14 homers and 40 RBIs with a .259 average. He has power and even has five steals. He s...

Early Saturday wrap
2008-06-08 01:02:00 BY ADAM RONIS Those damn Yankees!!! For the second time in three games, not only do I see the Yankees cost me save from my closer, but I have to see them get a comeback walkoff win in the process. On a day Mariano Rivera actually gives up a homer, it becomes secondary. Instead, Johnny Damon goes 6-for-6 with the winning hit. He also scored a run and had four RBIs with his 10th stolen base. As if the Mets don't provide enough stress, then I have to watch this. Jose Guillen started poorly and has come on strong. He went 3-for-4 with two homers and seven RBIs. He has nine homers and 45 RBIs. Jason Giambi hit his 13th home run and still has value. Jorge Posada hit his second homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score. I hope you listened and sold high on Brian Bannister in April. He's way too inconsistent and doesn't have great stuff. Joakim Soria blew his first save of the season. He went 2/3 inning and allowed three hits, two runs and a walk. He has a 1.67 ERA. Andy Pettitte...

Thursday night late wrap
2008-06-06 07:48:00 BY ADAM RONIS Not much went on in the Red Sox-Rays game. Just a brawl, teammates fighting and an injury to a key player. That's about it. After Coco Crisp slid late into Akinori Iwamura on Wednesday night, it was certain something would happen tonight. James Shields hit Dustin Pedroia in the first inning and hit Crisp in the second inning starting a brawl. Shields and Crisp were ejected. Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis were going at it in the dugout, too. Finally, Jacoby Ellsbury injured his wrist on a sliding catch. X-Rays were negative, but an MRI needs to be performed. It didn't look good and I think he will be out for a bit. As for the game, Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a homer and five RBIs. He is hitting .301 with 13 homers and 45 RBIs. Sorry, but I'm taking my chances with Mike Lowell every time. Shields killed fantasy owners by going one inning and allowed three hits and four runs. Jon Lester improved to 4-3 with a 3.50 ERA. Elijah Dukes hit a walkoff two-run homer and went...

Show 37 Wrap-up
2008-06-06 06:01:00 Thanks so much to Dr. Gwenn O'Keeffe from Pediatrics Now and Dr. Gwenn Is In for being on the show. We started with talking about her career choice for medicine and for the specialty of pediatrics. We then moved into her work with writing columns, then and eventually working toward the creation of her blog and her website. We talked a bunch about physicians can and should reach out to media outlets whether they be television, newspapers, or new media sources like blogs/podcasts/videos. I enjoy exploring this area with media savvy people like Dr. Gwenn. She's also involved with her professional organization (American Academy of Pediatrics) and I have been involved with mine as well to try to advocate better for physicians and our patients.Unfortunately, the technical problems continued this evening with me getting kicked off the line a couple of times, and my guest getting cut off a couple of times a well. 2008-06-05 00:33:00 BY ADAM RONIS Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-3 with three runs, two home runs, three RBIs, two walks and his 14th stolen base. He has 11 home runs and 26 RBIs. Kevin Gregg pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save. Manny Acosta blew his second save of the season by allowing four hirs and four runs in 1/3 inning. He is 3-3 with a 3.90 ERA. Rafael Soriano pitched the last two days and is the favorite to for saves. Justin Duchscherer didn't have his best control with five walks, but he went 6 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, two runs and struck out three to get the win. He is 5-4 with a 2.32 ERA. He has pitched well with a 38/15 K/BB ratio and should be owned in mixed leagues. The Brewers offense is starting to get going which is good news for fantasy owners that spent on several of their players. Corey Hart went 2-for-4 with his seventh homer -- an inside-the-park-- and four RBIs. He has 32 and is batting .290 with 10 steals. Russell Branyan hit his fourth homer and should be owned in...

A Primary Wrap-Up
2008-06-04 16:52:00 I didn?t see or hear any of the candidate speeches last night (that?s about the time when ?family life? intrudes), but Michael Cohen of Democracy Arsenal did here, so I?ll turn it over to him?As a student of campaign rhetoric and the author of an upcoming book on the subject tonight presented a true cornucopia of campaign oratory - and the contrast between the three speakers was fascinating.First John McCain: There really is no nice way to describe this speech. Forget the content for a second; McCain is quite simply an awful public speaker. I've never seen a politician in my life who is so clearly "reading" a speech than McCain. When he smiles; I cringe. There is no passion and little inspiration behind his words - when he speaks one gets the impression that he is seeing his speech for the first time. And from a presentation standpoint, whose idea was it to have a green backdrop with about 200 supporters in the room? I know that public rallies in of themselves do not portend politi...
Monday fantasy wrap
2008-06-03 06:55:00 BY ADAM RONIS So this is why Prince Fielder became a vegetarian? To steal bases. He stole third base, his first of the season. Oh yeah, he hit his ninth homer, too and went 3-for-4. Like I said, his power will come. Power hitters tend to hit them in bunches, so he could be set to take off after homering for the third time in four games. Anyone able to acquire him recently? Salomon Torres has establised himself as the closer for the Brewers. He picked up his sixth save and in his last six appearances, he has five saves and a win. Jay Bruce has lived up to all the hype so far. Yes, it's only a week, but his approach at the plate has been very impressive for a 21-year-old. He went 2-for-4 with two runs and his third homer. He is batting .577 in his first 26 major league at-bats. Someone performing even better is Chase Utley. Utley went 3-for-4 with his 21st homer. He has homered in five consecutive games and seven of his last eight. Pedro Feliz hit his eighth homer and has 30 RBIs. He...

2008-06-02 19:53:00 Congress returns from recess this week from the Memorial Day recess. Pending action on national security issues is possible, including House consideration of the Senate-passed Supplemental Appropriations bill to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. On May 22, the Senate approved funding for the war, rejected Iraq-related provisions, and added, with a veto-proof majority, the G.I. bill and a number of domestic funding provisions. 2008-06-01 01:58:00 BY ADAM RONIS Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with his 12th homer and had three RBIs giving him 34 for the season. He is batting .289 after .192 average in April. He's an example of why you don't panic early in the season. He also stole his fourth base and he should run more now that his calf seems better. Ryan Dempster wasn't as efficient as he has been this season, but still got the win since everyone beats the Rockies these days. He went five innings, allowing three hits, three runs, four walks and struck out seven. He allowed two homers and is 7-2 with a 2.75 ERA. Sell high before its too late. Carlos Marmol picked up the save, his third, with Kerry Wood having pitched the last two days and Marmol allowed one run. Marmol seems to pitch every day and has already thrown 36 innings. Justin Verlander struggled again. He went seven innings and allowed eight hits, four runs, two walks and struck out one. He is 2-8 with a 5.16 ERA. 2008-05-31 06:19:00 BY ADAM RONIS The wind was blowing out heavily today at Wrigley Field, which is why seven homers were hit and the Cubs erased a 9-1 deficit to win 10-9. Aaron Cook is usually a groundball pitcher, but he allowed three homers and seven runs in 6 1.3 innings. Manny Corpas allowed three runs without recording an out to take the loss. Ted Lilly had pitched very well lately, but allowed seven runs -- four earned -- and eight hits in three innings. Kerry Wood picked up save No. 13. Jacob Ellsbury stole three more bases giving him 23 for the season. Josh Beckett needed 118 pitches to get throught six innings. He allowed four hits, three walks and struck out 10 in a no-decision. Jonathan Papelbon got save No. 15. "The Tease" Daniel Cabrera had a good outing. He went seven innings, allowing six hits, two runs, two walks and struck out two in a no-decision. He has a 3.60 ERA. TOSHIBA SOURCING LCD TV PARTS FROM TAIWAN, WANTS TO PUT THING UNDER WRAP
2008-05-30 22:36:00 Toshiba has become the first Japanese maker to outsource production of its LCD panels, from Taiwan. The deal is on from last February, but the news has only broken out now. Fishy, no? Toshiba has formally (and finally) acknowledged the fact it is outsourcing LCD panels from Taiwan but has rejected to name the contractor. So, first it did not want to inform the whole world about the outsourcing thing, and now it is hiding the contractor's name as well. Hmm….may be to keep the whole world to keep faith in its products. A Friday Wrap Up
2008-05-30 14:23:00 I feel like I've been all over the map this week, still trying to find that routine I so desperately need. I'm getting closer (or maybe I'm just getting more used to the chaos.) I wrapped up one of my first clients this week as a business owner! I redesigned and coded a site for a Maryland dog trainer. She couldn't be happier with the site and it made me feel so good to do something I REALLY love while making someone else happy AND getting paid for it! Nothing is more satisfying. Well, maybe except seeing a loss on the scale when I'm trying to lose! ;~P BlogToLose hit over 500 members this week!! I can't believe how fast it's growing. We are still ironing out all the kinks but it's really what I had imagine, a place where people can find the support they want and need to change their eating habits and live a healthier life. I've said it before but I'll say it again, I don't think I would be as successful as I am keeping the weight off if it wasn't for this blog an...
Show 36 Wrap-up
2008-05-30 07:01:00 Thanks so much to Dr. Bruce Campbell for joining the show. (See video post above) His blog is called Reflections In A Head Mirror. We talked about how he chose his career as an ear, nose, and throat specialist. He said that he was originally going to be a primary care physician, but then changed to ENT - that's an interesting story. We then talked about how be started blogging. His hospital asked him (and a few other docs at where he works) to start writing articles for the hospital. This then was moved forward to blogging. Bruce shares an interesting story about how did (and still does) keep a journal of his reflections on life. That's so interesting, because that's a theme that I have found - especially with physician bloggers. I did keep a journal myself for a few years, so I can relate to where he's coming from.I would like to thank my callers to joining the show as well. Dr. Val asked about the peritonsillar abcess which sometimes can be an emergency situation which needs tr...

Wednesday fantasy wrap
2008-05-29 05:14:00 BY ADAM RONIS With the Rockies decimated by injuries right now, third baseman Ian Stewart was moved to second base today. He is a short-term option in NL-only leagues while playing. There was speculation that Shane Victorino might see less playing time after coming off the DL due to the emergence of Jayson Werth. I never believed it and with Werth on the DL, Victorino is securing his job. He has an 11-game hitting streak and went 3-for-4 with two runs and a walk to go along with two steals. He has 12 stolen bases for the season. Believe it or not, Chase Utley was in a slump for a good portion of May. It's over. He hit his 17th homer and has 46 RBIs with a .310 average. If Utley was in a slump, what do we call Carlos Delgado's season? How bad are things going for the Rockies? They gave Adam Eaton his first win of the season. Johnny Peralta hit his 11th homer, but has just 19 RBIs and a .225 average. Gavin Floyd improved to 5-3 with a 3.22 ERA. He allowed eight hits, four earned run...

National Security Legislative Wrap-Up
2008-05-27 21:54:00 Congress took action on a number of national security bills before heading out for the Memorial Day recess. Last week, the Senate completed action on the Supplemental Appropriations Bill to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As in the House, the bill was divided into three parts. The Senate approved funding for the war, rejected Iraq-related provisions and added, with a veto-proof majority, the G.I. bill and a number of domestic funding provisions. The House of Representatives last week completed action on the Fiscal Year 2009 Defense Authorization Bill, rejecting funding for... [This is a content summary only. Monday fantasy wrap
2008-05-27 04:46:00 BY ADAM RONIS Chad Tracy returned from the DL today and started at first base for the Diamondbacks. He went 1-for-4. He should see more of his time at third base since Mark Reynolds is hitting .225 and strikes out frequently. NL-only leaguers should consider Tracy. It might take him some time to get going. Brian McCann is bouncing back in a big way so far. He hit his ninth homer and has 32 RBIs with a .333 average to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. He should have a lot of opportunities in that potent lineup. Brandon Webb dropped his second straight game today in a loss against the Braves. In the last game, he pitched very well despite the loss. This time, he didn't as he allowed 10 hits, seven runs -- four earned -- three walks and struck out eight in 4 1/3 innings. He is 9-2 with a 3.01 ERA. Shaun Marcum has been one of the most consistent pitchers this season. He continued his great start by beating the Royals. He is 5-3 with a 2.64 ERA. He went 7 1/3 innings, allowing fiv...

Lettuce Wrap
2008-05-27 02:55:00 It's been almost a week since I came back from Hawaii, and I finally got back into the routine. It was nice to have a 3-day weekend to catch up with things at work and home!I will visit Texas next weekend for a wedding, and I'm getting excited! I haven't decided which dress to wear: a black pleated chiffon dress, or a green spaghetti strap dress. The wedding party seems rather proper, but it's an outdoor wedding... Maybe I will take both with me... I hope to visit some vegan restaurants in Austin, especially because I didn't get to try any of the places I had on my list in Hawaii!I'd been wanting to make this one since I saw a similar dish at a brewery. It did turn out to be a perfect appetizer, especially with beer. I think I'm going to serve this at our next open tap party. Our Belgian Tripel is almost ready...*Lettuce Wrap* makes 3 cups[ingredients]- 1 cup baked tofu, diced- 1 cup mixed mushrooms, chopped- 1 clove garlic, minced- 1 onion, minced- 1 tbs teriyaki sauce- 1 tb...

Sunday fantasy wrap
2008-05-25 22:41:00 BY ADAM RONIS Glen Perkins has been quietly having a very good start for the Twins. The lefthander went 7 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, one run, two walks and struck out four against a Tigers team that scored 19 runs yesterday. His success has been helped by just four walks in 26 innings. He is 2-1 with a 2.77 ERA and should be owned in AL-only leagues. Justin Verlander is issuing too many walks, but he pitched well for the third straight start. He went seven innings, allowing five hits, one run, four walks and struck out three in a no-decision. Dan Uggla hasn't slowed down yet. He hit his 16th homer and has 36 RBIs with a .320 average. Uggla will cool off, but he likely will set a career high in homers. He has struck out 50 times in 175 at-bats, though. I'd still sell high because his average will decline and it's difficult to envision him having higher value than he does right now. C.J. Wilson was on the precipice of losing his job as the closer, but he has pitched well i...

Thursday fantasy wrap
2008-05-23 05:31:00 BY ADAM RONIS Nate McLouth just won't go away. He went 4-for-4 with three runs and is hitting .314. He stole his fifth base. Expect his stolen bases to increase and his power to taper off. Xavier Nady continued his hot start with a 2-for-3 game. He hit homer number seven and has 38 RBIs with a .324 average. I'd still sell high. Jason Bay hit his 11th home run, but he has just 22 RBIs. Matt Joyce has been productive when he plays for the Tigers. He went 2-for-3 with his fifth homer in just 36 at-bats. He should be owned in AL-only leagues and considered in deep mixed leagues. Jeremy Bonderman had a solid start, but don't get excited. First, it came against the struggling Mariners. He still gave up eight hits and two walks and struck out just two in six innings to get the win. He is 3-4 with a 4.58 ERA. His K/BB ratio is 32/35. Don't expect much from him. Andrew Miller has been good the last three starts after an awful start. He was excellent against the Diamondbacks throwing seve...

Show 35 Wrap-up
2008-05-23 05:02:00 Thanks so much for Amy Tenderich for being on tonight's show 35. (See video post above) I have admired her for a long time and the work that she has done on Diabetes Mine. She said that their website has just been updated, so I encourage you to check that out. We talked about her story about when and how she was diagnosed. She also mentioned a post called "Dr. Suess Fun with Diabetes Book" which apparently garnered a lot of attention. We also talked about a new diabetes social networking site called Diabetes Connect. I've checked it out and it looks intriguing. I want to wish her the best of luck in getting Diabetes Connect up and running, and congratulate her on the continued success of Diabetes Mine. Amy said that the diabetes community on the internet has just exploded in the past few years. I know I direct my patients to some of these patient blogs to get first hand knowledge of some of these chronic diseases. After my conversation with Amy, I tried something different to end th...
