Indian Rupee Symbol Can Now Be Used In Writings
2010-07-22 07:30:00 Now you don’t have to vex yourself about downloading the new Indian Rupee symbol onto your computer. While the Government has announced that it will take about two years to make it available on the keyboard, it can be typed right away courtesy Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd. It seems software and hardware firms are in horde to cash on the new Indian Rupee symbol and leading the pack is Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd. The Mangalore-based firm has come up with a font called ‘Rupee_Foradian’ which allows users to type the new Indian rupee symbol. You can download it from the company’s blogsite and use it for free. Unni Koroth, company’s CEO, said he was amused with the Government of India’s statement that the commercial availability of the symbol would take more than a year and hence thought about doing something. A report says that the company created a vector image of the new rupee sign and mapped the ‘grave accent’ symbol, the key just above the tab butt...

A perfect killing solution?
2009-07-26 05:51:00 The BBC Horizon channel recently aired UK MP Michael Portillo’s attempts to find a humane solution to execution (see it here). He sets out looking for a method that a) does not require medical expertise, because doctors abide by the Hippocratic law, preventing them from doing anything that will contribute to death, b) is quick and painless, c) ...
Pronouncing President Obama
2009-04-11 19:40:00 I’m a fan of the BBC world service radio because it keeps me up to date on happenings around the world while I can do other things like cleaning up my room. But lately I’ve heard several transgressions on the pronunciation of Barack Obama (listen to the first recording) and I wondered how other newsreaders ...
Another Dimension of Time
2009-03-08 16:24:00 University of Southern California physics professor Itzhak Bars has suggested (in somewhat dated news) what the Telegraph called a “heretical idea”: the possibility that there is an additional dimension to time. According to Bars, the world we see around us is merely a “shadow” of a six-dimensional world. Think of a 3D object like your hand ...

2008-04-25 08:17:00 Right time to ask this question, what with IPL hogging everyone’s mindspace, Cricket seems to be all-pervasive these days. Not that it was much different earlier. Carly's Writings - A Child With Autism Tells Her Story
2008-02-19 11:04:00 Carly's Writings - CTV News PhotoIn Girl's writings opening new window on autism CTV tells the story of 13 year old Carly, diagnosed with autism at an early age and non verbal, who can now communicate very well with a computer. Carly surprised her family and therapists when she began typing words and then sentences. Carly was believed to be intellectually challenged. She is able to describe the frustrations she endures because of being different, in some ways, then other children, and because of her inability to express herself verbally. At the same time she describes very ordinary feelings for a child, including having "crushes" and describing "yucky" siblings. The CTV article states that Carly's development of computer assisted communication abilities challenges conventional views of autism. That may be so, at least for some children with autism disorders. But Carly's story also challenges the anti-ABA, anti-treatment, ideology advocated by some prominent "autistics" and ...

Remember Me
2007-12-23 07:45:00 Do not shed tears when I have gone but smile instead because I have lived. Do not shut your eyes and pray to God that I?ll come back but open your eyes and see all that I have left behind. I know your heart will be empty because you cannot see me but still I want you to be full of the love we shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live only for yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of what happened between us yesterday. You can remember me and grieve that I have gone or you can cherish my memory and let it live on. You can cry and lose yourself become distraught and turn your back on the world or you can do what I want - smile, wipe away the tears, learn to love again and go on.*I can't go on. I must go on. I'll go on.----David Harkins----"Time falls like a great wave & hits those who are too weak to prevent it."

Dream Deferred
2007-12-17 09:38:00 What happens to a dream deferred?Does it dry upLike a raisin in the sun?Or fester like a sore--And then run?Does it stink like rotten meat?Or crust and sugar over--like a syrupy sweet?Maybe it just sagslike a heavy load.Or does it explode?----Langston Hughes----"Time falls like a great wave & hits those who are too weak to prevent it."

Invictus
2007-12-14 08:29:00 Out of the night that covers me,Black as the Pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may beFor my unconquerable soul.In the fell clutch of circumstanceI have not winced nor cried aloud.Under the bludgeonings of chanceMy head is bloody, but unbowed.Beyond this place of wrath and tearsLooms but the Horror of the shade,And yet the menace of the yearsFinds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how straight the gate,How charged with punishments the scroll.I am the master of my fate:I am the captain of my soul.----William Ernest Henley----The poet was suffering from tuberculosis in his joints, he wrote this poem while he was on bed."Time falls like a great wave & hits those who are too weak to prevent it."

The Years Go By
2007-12-07 20:44:00 By my beloved friend, Suprateek Mitra....I still remember the days I walked into nursery,A small little bag & absolutely no worry,School was great! School was fun,I always longed for the next day to come.Games and streamers were all that were that there;Wherever I looked- here, there & everywhere. On came the years. And we all grew with it,The kiddish jokes disappearedAnd days had practical jokes in it.School was good, school was good. And all things went on as they should.Junior, Middle & Senior came by-We sat on the wings of time, and let it all fly by...."Let's bunk class!" became the new motto,It still is, but everyone gets tired of it....Someday!Years went on, studies became harder,And what do you know? We all became smarter....Though the years still go by,There no longer will be school-For, it's going to end in a month or two.As the years go by, we will fly-But there is going to be no school,And that my friends, is a reason to cry!A tragic reality we all have to acc...

The Stone
2007-12-07 19:55:00 "And will you cut a stone for him,To set above his head? And will you cut a stone for him--A stone for him?" she said.Three days before, a splintered rockHad struck her lover dead--Had struck him in the quarry dead,Where, careless of a warning call,He loitered, while the shot was fired--A lively stripling, brave and tall,And sure of all his heart desired . . .A flash, a shock,A rumbling fall . . .And, broken 'neath the broken rock,A lifeless heap, with face of clay,And still as any stone he lay,With eyes that saw the end of all.I went to break the news to her:And I could hear my own heart beatWith dread of what my lips might say;But some poor fool had sped before; And, flinging wide her father's door,Had blurted out the news to her,Had struck her lover dead for her,Had struck the girl's heart dead in her,Had struck life, lifeless, at a word,And dropped it at her feet:Then hurried on his witless way,Scarce knowing she had heard. And when I came, she stood alone--A woman, turned to st...

Writings of Forrest Langley...An American Hero
2007-09-29 01:56:00 I met Forrest Langley through our Patriots For Conservative Principals group. I have tried to read his writings and poetry and this is the first one I have been able to make it all the way through. Finally, in Washington DC, as the Vets For Freedom convened in a BAB dinner, I physically met Forrest Langley, a thrice decorated American Hero. We chit-chatted and got to know each other a little better.Below is the first writing I have made all the way through. The gist of the message is this:“For those who have fought for it, freedom has a taste the protected will never know.”Battle CryO` The depths of wars horrors to others are unknown, I have no vocabulary to explain; I just sigh and groan, Soldiers died now their families no more will them see,They bled, and died O the awesome cost for your liberty. The IED Blasts caused soldiers brain damage; now blasted insane, Post Traumatic Stress disorder causes Soldiers to be deranged, Th...
